The Teresa Collins thread had me thinking about scrapbook celebrities.
Back in the era of magazines there were a ton of them. I knew them all. I used to play a game of guessing who made a layout before I looked at the name. I was really good at it. It was easy when you recognized the kids, but even without the kids a lot of their styles were so distinctive that it was fairly easy to tell them apart.
Now I don't think there are so many well known celebrities, but I don't follow scrapbookers on any social media except Instagram (I have a separate account for just scrapbooking) so I'm probably missing out on TikTok and YouTube people.
The designers are celebrities, of course. I remember Vicki Boutin, Paige Evans, Heidi Swapp, and Shimelle from way back in the day.
And then there are celebrities that went off the rails a bit- Teresa Collins, Elizabeth Karchner, Kristina Contes (I used to love her stuff), Becky Higgins, etc.
What designers do you remember? I seem to have lost that part of my brain- I knew the names of everybody, and now it is all gone.
Who are the new scrapbook celebrities? Is there someone I should be following on TikTok or YouTube? Is there someone on Instagram that is a must have?

For me personally, the words "scrapbooking celebrity" are in the eye of the scrapbooker. Meaning whose scrapbook layouts and style work I admire. I think the terminology "scrapbook celebrity", was influenced by the notoriety and prestige of being a Garden Girl on the original Two Peas. No offence intended, just my personal opinion..... I've never cared for Shimelle's style of scrapbooking or her products, so I don't consider her to be a "scrapbook celebrity".
I always liked Cathy Zielske style of scrapbooking.
"Scrapbook celebrities" were not all nice. Then there's the "mean girls" of scrapbooking: Former garden girls Shannon Tidwell and a lady named Jen (can't remember her last name), with their "game on bitches" and mean girl commentary....when the private garden girl message board was exposed. In my opinion, that mean girl commentary and behavior , speaks volumes about their characters and the type of people they are.
Then there's the desperate to be known as a "scrapbook celebrity" >>Tracie Claiborne. She does have some groupies, and has more than once asked her groupies for money....for whatever her "woe is me" story of the moment is. Then has the audacity to post frivolous expenditures days or weeks later.

There were a bunch I followed back in the day. Mostly: Lisa Bearnson
Becky Higgins
Ericka Gumm (she had a couple of great making tag books) she was very artsy and happened to live close to me, so I met her several times and been to her house. Not sure what happened to her..
Some of the ones that OP posted I have slightly followed here and there.
There were a lot in the Creating Keepsakes magazines that got published a lot but I can't remember their names. One in particular, I REALLy liked her style and another one that lived in the same area, so I met her a few times at LSS gatherings.

I never was behind or supported the scrapbook "celebrities". I guess no they would be scrapbook social media influencers??
The majority of the Garden Girls were rude. All that secretive stuff came out and what they were saying. Not a good look. Oh and don't forget HOF-Gate. Good times.
Even back in the day Beggy Higgins was weird and thought she was all that and a bag of chips.
I preferred the regular scrappers to any "celeb".

I can’t remember any names from that far back, but there are a few who I wonder if they’re still creating. One person in particular, who stitched on her layouts, they were so amazing. I think her sister was in an auto accident, maybe going the wrong way on a highway? And then she dropped out of sight.
There’s another, I think she was part of House of 3? She created a mini album by gutting a hardback book and my mind was blown. I have created so many albums similar to that since then.
Edited to add that the House of 3 designer was Janet Hopkins.

I wasn't a scrapbooker in the "heyday" of scrapbooking, so I couldn't tell you (m)any names that were popular back then. I like Shimelle and Paige's personalities/teaching styles, but without going to look at their social media/blog history, I couldn't tell you if they were scrap celebs 15+ years ago.
Between 2008-2012 I was very much into stamping/card making and paid attention to publications/design team/magazine, but just for card making - not scrapbooking. I don't care about any of that stuff now, and haven't for about 8-10 years.
I wouldn't consider myself a celeb follower - either in scrapbooking or hollywood. I'm familiar with names if other people mention them or they come across my path organically, but I don't tend to seek anyone out. On IG, most of the people I follow I've muted their "stories", so I only really see whatever the algorithm shows me. My preference is to follow hashtags, and from there I might start following an account.

Is the stitching scrapbooker's sister the one who was drunk and killed someone? And received a very light sentence? She was very flip about what happened and I think had to fade away because she was rightfully getting a lot of backlash. Ones I remember from back in the day are Rebecca Sower, Elsie, Nia Reddy, Karen Russel, Karen Burinston, Jenni Bowlin, Amy Tan and the red haired lady, Kirstie I think. I met her once, man was she rude.

From before I actually started scrapbooking, I used to get magazines (for free) to make art journals. I remember Karen Burniston and another one whose three daughter's names all started with A. Half of the magazine was their layouts. This was about 2002-2003. I think Becky Higgins was in there too. I also really liked Nichol McGourk until she stopped scrapbooking, Cathy Zielske, and Ali Edwards. Now I don't really follow anyone scrapbooky...
ETA: it took a while to find... Shannon Jones was the one with 3 A-name daughters.

I have no idea who anyone is in the industry anymore. I don't follow or watch anyone on any social media platform, and while I did recognize several of the celebrities from back in the magazine days, I don't know if I'd still recognize them now if I were to see them.

I had forgotten about so many of these. I loved Janet Hopkins, she was/is so talented. Wasn't Rhonna Farrer the 3rd in the House of 3?
Jenni Bowlen was a sweet gal. So many of these taught at Creative Escape events.
We can't forget Stacy (so there) Julian, LOL!

Karen Russell - I followed her forever after she stopped scrapbooking and did photography retreats and then she stopped blogging altogether. I was very bummed because she was so nice (I was a teacher's aide at one of the expo's she taught at and she gave me a crapton of stuff for helping her out). Tara Whitney - another scrapbooker turned photographer who I still follow on Instagram. She's going through a ton of health issues related to long covid & other health issues and has stopped her photography as well. It's so sad. Elsie Larson - she's become a full on home influencer and I stopped following her because her aesthetic is not my style. Her posts occasionally come up on my instagram and I'm glad to see she's doing well.

i don't know them by name but i remember the woman with a ton of teeth and the other woman with bleached hair and heavy tan. those are my only recollections from back in the SB hey day.
i never got into the SB celeb fan girl thing but some of them really brought scrapbooking into the main stream.

Who was the scrapbooker/photographer who has a special needs daughter named McKenna? Was that Tara Whitney? Who was the one who opened some sort of retreat house that was insanely expensive? Am I combining 2 or 3 people in my mind, or just confusing Tara Whitney with this person?

Thank you. I just remember her writing a heartfelt blog about her daughter turning 18 and all that entailed. It was supposed to be a two part post, but I don’t think she ever posted about it again. Her daughter had been wanting to move out and I believe they had been looking for places for her. I just wondered how it went. It had to be 10 years ago. I had a neighbor going through a similar situation at that time. Child was unable to care for themselves but was unsafe at home. I often wondered what happened with her daughter. I think I was thinking of Donna Downey as the person with the overpriced retreat house.

Her daughter had been wanting to move out and I believe they had been looking for places for her. I just wondered how it went. The last I heard her daughter was in an independent living facility and liked it a lot. I haven't heard much else from her instagram. She's been focusing on long covid advocacy and other health things lately and doesn't mention her family much anymore (which makes sense because they're all adults and maybe don't want to be on the internet so much?). I forgot about Donna Downey, was she the one who said "put a bird on it"? Is that how all that started? My friends and I still say that when we scrapbook together, someone will ask what their layout needs and we'll say "put a bird on it".

AFAIR, Donna Downey brought out a stamp of a bird that was a blatant copy of one a bag?/fabric? designer had produced. She doubled down when questioned about it, and that was the beginning of Birdgate. 😄

I forgot about Donna Downey, was she the one who said "put a bird on it"? Is that how all that started? "Put a bird on it" is actually from a sketch on the tv show Portlandia. You can watch it on YouTube. Ericka Gumm! I forgot about her. I loved her pages. They were very cool and hip. Refreshing in a time where everything was dominated by mommy scrappers. She had really cool techniques, too. I loved Elsie, too. Again, because she wasn't a mommy scrapper. I love a lot of the scrapping mothers but my younger, single self really gravitated towards the single or childless scrappers. I liked Kristina Contes work, too, before all of the CK scandal. Tara Whitney had really lovely pages. I had forgotten about her, too. I've never cared for Shimelle's style of scrapbooking or her products, so I don't consider her to be a "scrapbook celebrity". Even though you don't like her style, she is a huge scrapping celebrity. She had a really huge following.

I guess my biggest sb "crush" was Rebecca Sower. She had such a homey, heartfelt style and seemed like a genuinely nice lady. I've saved a lot of her articles that were published in Creating Keepsakes. And Shimelle has remained one of my favorites throughout the years. She has consistently offered sb content and seems to still enjoy the process. Some others (don't know if they were "celebrities") that I enjoyed were Susan Stringfellow, Brenda Torgerson, Erin Lincoln, Faye Morrow Bell, Nancy Diamano, and Erin Terrell. So much talent out there!

I really loved Leslie Lightfoot's work, and also the lady who had a daughter named Chandler, her stuff was great, too. Oh, and Erin Terrell.
Cathy Zielske's style was always one of my favourites, so I'm happy she's still crafting, although I do find her cards quite repetitive. I also recall scrap lifting Ali Edward's stuff 20 years ago, so I guess I've always been a fan of hers!

I'm terrible at remembering names, but one that comes to mind is Nia Reddy. I liked the simple scrappers who did 8.5x11 pages. There was a lady who was Canadian who had three daughters that I liked too. I remember liking one of the Garden Girls. My memory is awful.

Tracy White, Stacy Croninger, Jen Gallacher, and of course, Sandi Genovese (where it all started for me, on DIY Scrapbooking). Way back when Simple Scrapbooks was just beginning, I did like Stacy Julian. Until she got too conceited, like so many of the other "celebrities" who have been mentioned.
