So my mom is destashing. She is 85 this month!! But is slowing down and not really scrapping anymore. She really liked doing it especially when we were together. But since she isn't traveling much anymore it is harder for us to continue.
I just got back from her house and brought some of her stuff home that I can use. The rest I left there in case she wants to dabble. I left all the CK magazines there cause I'm not sure if I want to keep them or not. I totally forgot she had them (they were originally mine) One one hand I LOVE that I have them. On the other hand, that is a lot of space. Should I save them? Maybe go through them next time I'm there and just limit myself to a dozen of my favorites? Ohhh I wonder if there is a market for them on ebay? Ummmm.
WWPD??

When we moved I got rid of all of my magazines. I flipped through and tore out articles or recipes that I thought I might try, then they all went in the recycler. If you haven't looked at them in the past 5-10 years, your not going to look at them in the next 5-10 years. Plus, pretty sure it's either outdated or you can find it online.

I'd tear out anything I wanted to keep (photos for inspiration or whatnot), file them in a notebook and get rid of the magazine.

Donate them to a group home, retirement community, or school.
I wouldn't even go through them.
And if you can't do that, recycle them.

Maybe that is what I will do. I will like going through them since I haven't seen them in so long. Just to go back and see. I might save the cover and a few pages that I really like and toss the rest. I remember there were a few gals that I loved their pages and I would like to keep some of those so I have their names and layouts that I liked.

My mom recently did a big purge of magazines. As others have mentioned, she did a quick flip through and just tore out anything she thought she would still want and filed that away. I think she found that she was quite happy to just get rid of most of them.

Awhile ago, I flipped through my CK, Simple Scrapbooks, and other magazines, tore out the pages I wanted to save ( many of them already marked with sticky notes), and got rid of the magazines.
Put the pages I extricated away…. And haven’t looked at them since LOL

Lots of the regular issues don't seem to really be moving on Ebay--I see only 16 lots of them sold and over 120 listed. (Now perhaps if you have the very first few years, or a bunch of the HOF issues, those might do better.) I personally would offer them up on my local Buy Nothing group--even if I did pull out some pages first--I'd just let people know that when I offered them.

I had about three hundred of them in boxes, moved from residence to residence. Never looked at them.
Then I downsized. Got rid of them all, along with a bunch of other magazines that I had collected over the years. If I recall correctly, I donated them to a thrift store.

I remember how hard it was to get rid of my old scrapbook magazines. Mainly because of how much money I'd spent! At the height of the scrapbooking craze, when there used to be so many different magazines, I would buy about six every month. At $10 each (AUD), that is a lot of money I spent over the years. I was going to go through them and rip out the pages that I wanted to keep, but in the end I left them intact, and donated them. The woman at the Op Shop (like Goodwill) told me that women coming into the shop loved scrapbook mags. I think I did end up keeping a handful of my favourites. My vote is to get rid of them, especially if you haven't looked at them in years, and didn't even remember that your mum had them. Keep a few of your favourites, and donate the rest (if they will even take them these days!). If they don't accept them for donation, into the recycling bin they go! ETA: Here is the photo I took of the last batch I got rid of, in 2015. That's over $1200 worth. Think of all the supplies I could have bought with that money!

If you do decide to donate some or all I would give the place a call first. Many thrift shops are not accepting magazines any more and will just end up recycling them, or worse, will send you back home with them.

I'd go through them and rip out anything that catches your eye. Who knows, depending on your stash, you may still have some of the products in the pages! (Not that it was true in my case...) 🤣
I also ripped out sketch ideas, design principles/theories, photography tips, and journaling suggestions when I went through my old magazines. I especially found the photography tips to be helpful.

I have the same situation here. I have two bins full of magazines to do something with soon. I was thinking about keeping the special editions published, I'm thinking of holiday issues that CK published, maybe?
But, I thought about (maybe) tearing out some pages and putting them in page protectors in a binder, if I haven't used them after a certain time then they can go to recycling.
I loved all the magazines back in the day, kinda miss that there aren't any now. But man they are bulky and heavy to store.

I think I will bring them home with me the next time I am there. Unless I have time to go through them at her house. And just pick a handful or so and let the rest go. I think I do want to keep a few just for memory sakes. Sometimes I do wish I had a couple on hand just to flip through once and awhile.

Before I moved, I ripped out any pages that I wanted to keep and put them into page protectors in a binder. Although I have looked at them, it has been rare. Things change in this industry so fast that many of the ideas are outdated. On the other hand, techniques often make a comeback eventually, and it’s sometimes fun to go back and look.

I miss magazines so much. It was always fun to sit down with a new magazine and flip through all of the wonderful pages. I know you can see a lot more layouts and more efficiently on a computer but it doesn't have the same feeling to it.
I got rid of all of my magazines and I really wish I'd kept some. I'd love to look at them again.
Definitely keep a couple, at least the special addition ones. Throw the rest out- they take up so much room.

If you would like a few of them, I wouldn't mind sending them to you for fun. (I don't know when I'll get my hands on them) but I wouldn't mind if you just wanted to flip through a few. I MISS them too!! I couldn't WAIT until I got my hands on them each month. There was an Australian sb magazine one that I loved and it was hard to get. I wish I had a few of those! I liked them even more than the CK ones.

Happy Birthday to your Mom workingclassdog. Oh how fun it was when we would get our sb magazines! Sure miss them. I did save a lot of articles and l/o-s fr my old magazines. And I refer to them occasionally, probably not enough to justify keeping the big 'ol binder they're stored in but I'm not ready to give it up yet. I'll bet there's several organizations that would be glad to have the ones that you don't want to keep. Maybe a local school's art department? Or Ronald McDonald House? A senior community that does arts/crafts classes? I'll bet you'll have a blast going through them.

Hi,
I would love to purchase the Creating Keepsakes magazine from September 11, 2011((I think that is the right one). It has an article about ways to scrap memorabilia.
PM me for more info.

I wouldn’t tear out pages, but just photograph them. Photomyne is a great app. You have to pay for it, but I usually save up what I want to scan and pay for a month. Then I cancel the subscription
Then I’d offer the magazines on a Facebook free page..
