Has anyone tried it? The reviews seem terribly mixed.
I'm somewhat needing a new Kindle, but I have the Oasis right now. I like that the Oasis screen is larger than the Paperwhite, so I don't really want to move down in size. However, the Scribe is SO much larger and I really don't need the writing function. (I do think that if the writing function were really developed, it might be nice, but it sounds like it's pretty impractical in implementation right now.)
I have both a 20% off a Kindle coupon, plus a $30 trade-in coupon, plus the Scribe is on sale, so it makes it pretty cheap. I don't have a problem with the money itself as reading is pretty much my one big hobby. I'm just concerned that it might be a waste anyway. My Oasis still works, but it is pretty old and now that they aren't selling them and aren't supporting them, I think it's just a matter of time. It does seem to have glitches more often that it used to.
(I really just want another Oasis, but I'm out of luck with that.)

I'm holding out hope that maybe they're developing a successor to the Oasis, one that will also have buttons. I haven't actually looked at the Scribe but I've seen comments from people in a Facebook group I belong to say that it's too big. And the writing thing is cool, but for me personally I'd have no need for it so it would just be wasted money. I'm hanging on to my Oasis until the last minute.

I can't help you but I hadn't heard that about the Oasis. That's a bummer. I splurged on one a few years ago and it's the best thing ever. I would hate to have to get a smaller Kindle with no buttons next time.

Kobo Libra has buttons and it now comes in colour. I don't think that's really necessary unless you read a lot of manga style stuff. It would like nice to have coloured book covers, but my B&W Libra is still pretty new so no plans to upgrade for me.

I just read an article, they may have a new one out in 2025: Apparently, the Oasis is being discontinued because a new Kindle is being launched in 2025…with color technology! You can read more about it here but it looks like there will be a 6in and 10in model. So maybe there will be a new version of the Oasis along with the classic and Paperwhite. www.readandwright.com/blog/2024/3/11/updated-kindle-review-oasis-vs-kindle

I can't believe that they would just totally discontinue an Oasis-style Kindle (i.e., with buttons) since surely they know how everyone loves those buttons. I don't care as much about color. I mean, if a Kindle with buttons also came with color then I'd probably get it. But if I have to choose between the two...well give me buttons any day! lol

I will let you know. I just lost my Oasis somewhere on my trip to Michigan last week (holding out hope that somehow United will find it). I know this seems like an overreaction but I am just devastated! I just ordered a Scribe last night. It arrives on Sunday, so I will be sure to post my feedback then!

My YDS has a Scribe. He likes it for what it is. He is in the midst of planning his wedding so he has been taking lots of notes on it. Playlists, addresses, etc. His recruiting notes. He has Audible and loves it but I don't think he can use that on the Scribe. He does use it for his ebooks though. He's not a big reviewer of things so I probably can't answer anything other than that though. Sorry.
ETA: I just looked at the size and it is the size of my Samsung tablet. I guess size is a thing for me. I upgraded to a newer tablet and it is larger. But I don't use mine for reading so much as surfing the net, and watching streaming stuff on there. It could get handsy reading on it.

I want a new Kindle on Prime Day, and I don't want to wait because I want it on vacation next month. I wish they still sold the Oasis - I'd probably get that one if it was a choice. I would completely go with the Scribe and use it for notes and reading, but it isn't waterproof (or water resistant), and I love reading at the pool (and our neighborhood pool has the fabulous little seats in the pool) or in the tub. I want it all, and Amazon just doesn't have the perfect combination!

I follow Maneetpaul Singh on YT. He does indepth videos on Kindles (and Kobo and Boox). I found him when my beloved Voyage needed replacing. Search for Scribe on his page.

Then you could wait until they come out with whatever new model they're planning. That's what I'm going to do if I have to replace mine before the new model.

Thanks, y'all! With your input and the videos linked and reviews...I think I'm just going to wait and hope my Oasis holds on till there's a new Oasis or similar in-between sized one. Thanks!
