I’ve been to a decent amount of concerts and with the exception of one I have stood and danced the entire time, as has everyone around me.
The last concert I went to I specifically chose a seat with a wall behind me because it was a decent ways from the stage. I’m glad I did because the majority of people in our section were sitting down. There were still a good amount of us standing, but I didn’t worry about it because no one was behind me.
I have been seeing more and more online that it’s rude to stand at concerts.
Music makes me want to dance and for as much as tickets cost I want to make the most of it.
So do you stand during concerts? If not, what do you do? I’d start a poll but you can’t in TapATalk. Do you stand for some songs and not others? Sit the whole time? If you sit, do you dance in your chair or just sit there the whole time?
I get not wanting people around you to screech or talk the whole concert, but it really never occurred to me not to stand and dance as honestly for the last 35 years that I’ve been going to concerts people have always stood.

Rarely do I stand. It depends on the venue though. I feel like if it is a venue where both seated and GA/floor tix are offered, then the ones with seats should stay seated. You wanna stand and dance? Go to the GA area. But that's just me.

The only concert where I did NOT stand was Eric Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall. Rolling Stones? Stood through the whole thing.

At most concerts I've been to, there is a standing area in front of the stage with seating behind it. I don't want to stand so I sit in the seats. I dance in my chair so I don't distract others or block their view. I think if you want to stand, you should do so in that area.

I'm up and down most of the time... fun dance songs I'm up, nice slow songs, sitting. And it also depends on the crowd around me, I kinda follow their lead too. I don't want to be blocking someone's view if I am the only one standing (which is weird to me).
The only exception to this was the Taylor Swift concert. Almost everyone stood the majority of the time. I couldn't.. I made it about 3/4th of the way and finally gave up. It didn't bother me in the least that I couldn't see much.. I just enjoyed listening and watching the people around me. It was exhausting for this old lady.. lol

I don't go to many, but if people are standing in front of me, I stand. If they sit, I sit.

I generally do now. I think it's a generational change - millennials and Gen Z stand. My dh won't go with me anymore because he just wants to sit and listen and the people in front of us stand and the people behind us stand and he doesn't enjoy it.
The last big concert I brought him to the girls behind us were being kind of jerky: "come on, dude...stand up!" He was miserable.
We went to an outdoor venue last year to see a less popular band (The National) and there was a good mix of standing and sitting, so we sat.

It depends on the singer, the feel of the show and the crowd but generally, yes, I pretty much stand up the entire time.
Now some concerts have a slower vibe (for instance, I saw Christopher Cross last year and his songs are generally slower and therefore the audience stays seated, as did I). But for rock concerts, I can't sit still.
We are going to NKOTB in a couple of weeks and I can tell you, I won't be sitting

I went to the Tim McGraw concert a couple weeks ago, I was standing, singing and swaying the entire time. Most everyone around me was standing.

I sit. I’m not a dance type person tho.
Those standing in front of me annoy me.
I don’t go to concerts much because I don’t like people so take my thoughts as you will. 😂

Depends on the venue, the band or artist, and the vibe of the show. Some mostly sit, some a mixture, and some are completely stand.

If the crowd stands, I stand. I won't stand up and dance in front of people who are seated. That's just inconsiderate. We have tickets in the front row of our local theater and the woman next to us stands up and boogies awkwardly with no regard to those behind her. She's about 75. Her boyfriend thinks it's cute and reminds us every show, "She used to be a professional dancer." Yeah, right.
We had tickets to a midnight concert and some girl decided she had a right to be the only one standing because it was her birthday and she liked to dance. The rest of the crowd was seated. She apparently took to heart the whole, "Dance like nobody's watching," thing so we stayed up that late and spent all that money to look at her fat @$$ waving in our faces. Ugh.

I’ve never been to concert with GA so that hasn’t been an option.
I’ve sat in a mix of places ~ closer to the stage, further to the stage, lawn seats.
Sounds like so far standing is about 50 / 50.
Edited to mention ~ most of the concerts I go to have been upbeat dancy type of concerts. The one I sat down at was Billy Joel, but that was also in a suite. The most recent concert was P!nk and I was surprised how much sitting there was as almost all of her songs just make you want to dance!
Thanks!

I only stand the whole time if the people in front of me won't sit down. For the most part, in seated events, everyone stands for the most popular songs, and I happily join in. I also completely understand standing for your favorite song or three, but if you want to stand the whole time (especially if you want to hold your beer in the air and dance - thank you girl in front of me for the showers), consider the pit or a seat where you have less people behind you. I would just like some songs here and there when I can see the stage rather than someone else's butt.
For the record, I try to pick seats with no or few rows in front of me, but that isn't always possible.

Depends upon the concert and the venue. If I want to dance and people around me are sitting, I go out into the aisle. Last year we saw Calexico outside at a small venue and the dirt area right in front of the stage was for dancing.

We've quit going to concerts because of all the standing as well as all the singing along. I paid all that money so I want to hear the artist sing, not a bunch of off key audience members! Now stay off my lawn!

I don't mind if someone is dancing in front of me when I feel more like sitting. I prefer dancing in front of me to seeing the show through their phones. I can see recording clips or a particular song but do people ever go back and re-watch a whole concert on their phone?

I hadn't been to a concert in forever, then went to see Niall Horan with my daughter this past Tuesday...we stood, as did all the other 20,000 people. But my old legs were tired afterwards!

I've just got home from a concert tonight. One of our favourite singers did a concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra backing him, and that was definitely a sit down gig.
Next month I am seeing a show where the performers will be doing the songs of James Taylor and Carole King. That will also be a sit down show.
Then in October I have another concert by my favourite rock band of the 80s. That will definitely be a stand up and dance all night concert.
I prefer to be up dancing at a gig, but I guess it really depends on the performer and type of music.

Some people stand there with their hands up the whole time. They don't even know if they're getting a good shot!

I sit. Then again, the type of concerts I go to are generally sitting shows anyway, with a dance area up front. I can't dance, and standing for an entire show would kill my back at this point.

Piggybacking on my own question since I’ve seen it here a few times ~ is GA or a pit area a common thing?
I watched Harry Styles concert clips on TikTok the last year and know it’s a thing for that, but honestly I’m in my 50s and have been going to concerts for over 30 years of all sorts (rock, country, pop, etc) ~ I have never been to a concert with GA seating. The closest I would say are lawn seats at an outdoor venue but those are all behind the seated area.

That’s this Saturday for me! It's a great show! I had never heard a lot of his music but my daughter is a huge fan (she's 19 and was VERY into 1D back in the day) but now I'm actually listening to him voluntarily on Spotify!

Oh yes, I stand! I don't buy the standing tix at the front but I stand at my seat, usually after a few songs when things get rocking!
I would not be able to sit still. I also sing along with the songs (luckily the music is so loud that people don't realize how off-key I probably am).
And I'm hoarse about halfway through concerts from singing.
I'm sad because so many of my favorites don't tour anymore or aren't around. I have loved going to concerts ever since I was a teenybopper plotting how to get backstage to meet them.
The only one I didn't stand for recently was Bob Dylan. If I would have stood up, I would have walked out. What a bore.

Since most of the concerts we have gone too lately are hard rock or metal concerts and 90+% of the tickets sold are general admission, we stand. We did recently go to a concert that had no GA and chairs in the area that would've have been "in the pit" (GA), but most everyone stood, because it should have been a GA area. This venue tends to put chairs in that area no matter which artist is playing- Ozzy, 5FDP, and there is no way you are sitting for these performers, so everyone stands. If you are in the "nosebleed" section of this venue, they tell you to sit (but that might be because it is so high up and the stairs are kind of steep- so losing balance and falling could be possible). I like the outdoor concerts, where you can bring your own chairs and sit back or wander closer to the stage when you are so inclined.

Depends on the concert.
For Garth Brooks, I stand almost the whole time.
If people are standing at a concert, I stand.
I find it frustrating to be at a rock concert and no one else is standing.
