It depends on the show.
Apart from one (David Cook and Green River Ordinance), all of the concerts I've been to have been sit-down concerts. However, all of those shows have been "older" bands (Jefferson Airplane, Styx, Foreigner, Kansas, Def Leppard, Bob James, and James Taylor), so that may have been also due to the general age of the attendees. I think there may have been a few songs that my dad and I stood for, but most of the time, we stayed in our seats (however, in all the shows I've been to with him when Wooden Ships was performed, he gave a standing ovation like he does any time that song gets played).

😆. I would not expect anyone but a Dylan lover to actually attend one of his concerts, and I think it is pretty obvious what you are going to get.
As I said it depends on the concert. But I have to say I love artist that weave the stories of their songs before playing them, although I know a lot of people are more just shut up and sing your songs. John Prine was a great example of a sit down for most of the concert and great commentary. But certainly not a rock concert. John Hiatt, Steve Earle, Arlo Guthrie, etc are also these types of shows I think.
Then I have seen people like Government mule or Allmen brothers at smaller venues and you could sit or stand as they had both. Grace Potter was completely stand.
Jimmy Buffet and many others have alway been at places that had lawn seats and pavilion seating. Most of those shows a combination but also depends on if we have seats or lawn. People like Train, The Dead, etc were more a mixture. People like Rod Stewart and Tina Turner were more stand. David Bowie was definitely more stand. There have been so many and such a huge variety over the years, really none of them are normal.
These were over many years and I will say these days I tend to gravitate more to smaller venues or outdoor venues. I am not as apt to travel as far for shows and instead see people I like and enjoy who might not be playing at huge arenas. I am just not as accepting of bad conditions anymore and need things like my own bed and bathroom if I am staying over night. And also driving multiple hours after a show no longer holds much appeal. So seeing shows are much more costly and I get more bang for my buck if I can stay relatively local which has no huge venues. And I feel I can always find good music to hear locally. 😆

As an old fart, I am unable to stand for any length of time. Most venues in driving range are smaller. I usually buy tix on the front row of the mezzanine which solves the problem of someone standing in front of me:)

It depends. If I paid for seats I want to sit and get annoyed when people in the seats in front of me stand because it forces me to stand. I have terrible feet and it causes me an immense amount of pain to stand for hours on end. If I paid for a lawn seat then feel free to stand and dance around, I can always move if I don't want to join in.

I prefer to sit in my seat and groove to the music. I will stand if others stand. I internally cringe when I see the wave of people in front start to stand. 😂 But also, I am short. When people in front of me stand, all I see is their backs. I can’t see the stage anymore.

We go to A LOT of concerts and it depends on the average age of the people there. For example, Depeche Mode we were not on the floor and most people were seated but it was also more of a mellow concert so that was fine. I've seen Duran Duran 5 times in the last 4 years and we have always been off the floor. I am always up and dancing because I love to. We are seeing them again this October and I bought VIP tickets (8th row). I WILL be up and dancing for that one. When I see P!nk, people are usually up and dancing. The last time we saw her last summer, we sat but it was high up and it was outdoor and miserable with on and off rain. I had zero interest in standing. If I pay as much as I do for concerts, I am going to stand if I want. If you don't want to stand, then buy a ticket in the nosebleed section.
We actually just saw David Bowie's Blackstar album done by the band that backed the album and by the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. The band was in front of NSO and there were 3 singers. One woman who has worked with Bowie many times, the creator of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and another gentleman. Everyone sat for that UNTIL the NSO left the stage and they turned it into a concert. Then everyone got up and danced.

If the people in front if me are, yes. If it is dancey music, yes. I went to see Adrienne Lenker a few weeks ago (quiet folk singer) and everyone sat so I sat.

Depends on the concert and venue. I usually do a mix of both.
I prefer a balcony seat, because it's usually less crowded (I don't like being crowded...and few inches from my seat neighbor), and higher up..... there are usually empty rows and seats for relocating, if wanting to.
In my younger days, when I had more stamina.....I was a stander for a the majority of the concert.
These days, I (and my feet and back) don't have the stamina necessary to stand for hours without a break.
Concerts at the park usually sitting on a blanket....unless the performer yells "everyone on your feet, let's rock this place".
The last concert I went to a couple weeks prior to the pandemic shut down was Dennis DeYoung. It was a mostly middle age or older crowd. No one was standing until the encore, so I sat....even when I wanted to get up and dance.
The concert a few years before that was Def Leppard and Poison, different type of crowd....lots of standing and dancing.
I've been at concerts where the whole audience or the whole section was standing.
I've been at a concert(Elton John and Billy Joel), directly in front of "Mr and Mrs sitting the whole time", they spent the majority of the concert going to get the usher and requesting the usher make everyone around them sit down. The whole section was standing, so everyone sitting down....was not going to happen.
If I am at a concert, and the majority of my section are standing and I am standing....I will not be forced to sit down by "Mr and Mrs want to sit the entire time".
If I am at a concert, and the people in front of me stand....no big deal, if I want or need to sit >> I watch the monitor. I absolutely would NEVER ask someone to sit down, nor would I complain about standers.
This type of thing (standing or not standing) is always going to be an issue, because everyone wants to do what they want to do. In any given situation, there's no pleasing everyone......especially those with an opposing viewpoint or opposing "I want".

I finally turned around and politely said that we had paid to hear Billy Joel sing, not her. She was quieter after that. Years ago my husband and I were at a Styx and Journey concert. We were in the suite that the company my husband worked for shared with another company. There were two other couples there from the other company and we chatted a bit before the concert. One of the guys asked which band we were really there for and I said I like Journey but I’m a big Styx fan. He said “Oh, good, then you won’t mind when I go crazy.” We weren’t sure what that meant but we found out when Styx started. He stood in the middle at the top of the suite aisle (that wasn’t a problem) and sang along at the top of his lungs with every song. We seriously had trouble hearing the actual band even when we moved to other seats in the suite, because he was right there and singing so loudly. It ruined that part of the concert for us. His wife and the other woman sat in the back of the suite and talked the whole time. Luckily they left after Styx finished, but we didn’t get to fully enjoy what we were there for. I’m not actually much for standing at a concert, because I’m so NOT a dancer. I get my enjoyment from really listening to the music, and focusing on that. And now that I have some pretty severe arthritis in my back, standing for a whole concert would be miserable. |

I don't stand because of mobility issues. I'm all for people having fun at a concert but if you stand in front of me and I can't see I am going to be annoyed and will probably ask you to sit down.

I also sing along with the songs (luckily the music is so loud that people don't realize how off-key I probably am). People can hear you and are probably really p!$$ed off because they didn't pay to hear YOU sing, especially off-key. But, we were in front of a woman who wanted to sing along with every song. If people think no one can hear them when singing along in a big crowd, they are mistaken, especially if they are right behind you. I finally turned around and politely said that we had paid to hear Billy Joel sing, not her. She was quieter after that. Thank you for telling her to be quiet.  |

We pointed out that then we wouldn’t be able to see, he told us to ask the couple to sit down, and we said no, we wouldn’t, we didn’t believe in ruining other people’s fun like that. Instead, we sat through the slower songs and stood and danced to the fast ones. Later, that stupid woman spilt her drink so it went under my chair and all over my stuff, I know she did it on purpose! I turned around and stared right at her and yelled “there’s soda all over my stuff”!!! Everybody in our area had heard the whole episode and were staring at her. When the show was over she couldn’t wait to get out of there. Oh!!! I almost forgot the worst part. She talked through the show! When we realized they really weren’t that into hearing Billy, we decided we didn’t care that much about them anyway, and just concentrated on enjoying ourselves. |

I wouldn't have sat down either. There always seems to be at least one >> Crankypants in the audience. I NEVER put my purse under the seat. Back in the 1980's one in our group had her purse under the seat, and the people behind her took it, they were long gone when she realized it was missing. A friend of mine had this happen several many years ago, at a convention-meeting, purse under the seat was taken. Lesson learned....never put purse under seat. |

I wish everyone would stay seated. I hate when people stand- it just feels rude to me. But that seems to be what people do now, so I have to stand.
I'm 5'7" so I don't have too much of a problem seeing. But if I were much shorter I'd be miserable looking at people's backs the whole time.

It depends on the performer, the venue, & the crowd. Some crowds are sitters, and some performers tend to pull in more of a sitting crowd. Some concerts have both standing and sitting areas, which is helpful. I try to go with the vibe of the concert. If it's a standing crowd, and I got tired, I would sit and not complain, though.  |

At the Billy Joel concert last night, people in my section really only stood during the 4 song encode.
There was a group standing and dancing and the old fuddy-duddies behind them were irritated.

My dh won't go with me anymore because he just wants to sit and listen and the people in front of us stand and the people behind us stand and he doesn't enjoy it. This is us. We've quit going to concerts because of all the standing as well as all the singing along. I paid all that money so I want to hear the artist sing, not a bunch of off key audience members! Now stay off my lawn!  Same. |

I prefer not to. Makes my feet and back hurt way too much. If everyone around me is standing I will, just so my short self can see. But I have to take sitting breaks.

We are going to NKOTB in a couple of weeks and I can tell you, I won't be sitting Having been to a show already, you will be in the majority! Hahaha! I did sit a couple times because it was sooooo hot, but being in the 2nd row, I had a good view still. Be ready for a fantastic show!!! I wish I could add another show! |

If I'm at a show where most people are standing, yes I'm up and dancing. (For example, Bruno Mars)
If it's not that type of show, I'm not blocking everyone by standing up.

We recently saw the Stones at Jazzfest. We were in the back of beyond but could see them on the screens. We resigned ourselves to sitting in our mini chairs until the show started and then standing up when the show started. Suddenly I got a face full of red spandex from some woman who squeezed in the middle of us. Her giant red @$$ was six inches from my nose. I hate General Admission.  |

I wish everyone would stay seated. I hate when people stand- it just feels rude to me. But that seems to be what people do now, so I have to stand. I'm 5'7" so I don't have too much of a problem seeing. But if I were much shorter I'd be miserable looking at people's backs the whole time. I can’t stand for long because of my scoliosis. But because of my height I also don’t stand too long if the people behind me are short or sitting. I’m usually within the first 10 rows and those seats are not stepped so if I stand I’m blocking the view of those behind me. I know it seems like I should only think of myself and my enjoyment, but I don’t just work that way. I can enjoy myself without being inconsiderate to those around me. We just had fourth row seats to Rick Springfield and the person in front of my friend stood most of the show. Luckily my friend did also. My yearly tickets at my music festival are front row. I’m up and down depending on the act. Last year Lynyrd Skynyrd wanted us up out of our seats. |

I've found the older the band or artist, the more likely people are to sit. When there's more than one performer, the amount of standers increases until you get to the final act. I went to a concert on Thursday: Edwin McCain, Collective Soul, and Hootie and the Blowfish. Math checked out. I am not offended by standers or sitters. I got a raging headache at the end, and I sat. It was really good seats. I should have brought ear plugs.   |
