I didn't read the article but I would have no issues with a death capsule. We think nothing of putting an animal down if they are suffering but we make humans who are sick and/or old suffer. It's mind boggling.

It's mind boggling. This is a small tube the person sits in, presses a button and Oxygen is depleted in 30 seconds. No doctor needs to be present. They currently allow doctors to administer a med that ends life. I have a friend who fights for right to end life here in the states. Ca allows it as do other states. Though you have to go through hoops to qualify. I read an article where a person with terminal cancer chose it and the family and friends were very supportive. Many said they were able to ha dle their loved ones passing better as it was scheduled and they were not suffering. They were able to come to terms with it better being there. I am not sure if I agree with the tube thing. The other way I fully support.

As someone with claustrophobia, I can't begin to understand that method of euthanasia - and I support death with dignity - but hell no on that thing!

And that doesn't seem like it fits under death with dignity. I don't think suffocating one self is the answer. And yes, I understand people do it already. This is why I wish there was more access to death with dignity assisted death.

Suffocation doesn’t sound like a nice way to die.

I'm pro-choice so you (general you) do you. If that's how you want to go, I'm not stopping you.

It doesn’t sound like a pleasant death. I do believe in the right to death but I would pass on this capsule. Sounds like a bit of a marketing thing to me.

I remember reading about this a few years ago. It seems strange to me because it really doesn't seem like a comfortable way to go. I'd much rather swallow a few pills in a spot in my home where I am comfortable. It seems like suffocation would cause people to struggle and possibly thrash around a bit. Maybe this would be a better option if it put out some kind of gas to knock people out first so they aren't conscious when the oxygen is removed from the pod.

I do always think the euthanasia discussion is a tricky one. I've certainly seen situations that I'd have no problem with, but TBH I have no problem with there being a ton of hoops to jump through where it is legal. Even for ourselves, some of us have different thresholds of what life is worth living.
As far as methods go, I guess I don't have a problem if someone chooses this method, but I have a hard time imagining anyone would.

I wonder about the mind of the engineer who sat down to draw up the plans on how to build it.

ITA librarylady. Seeing who it is I am not surprised. Figuring out better ways to kill people does not seem to be a very noble way to spend one’s medical degree Nazi doctor Mengele springs to mind

I’m very glad that most states in Australia now has “voluntary assisted dying”. It’s a very strict process where you can request an assessment if you have a terminal illness with 6mths life expectancy (or 12 months for conditions like MDC/ALS) and find that your ci sit in/pain etc is unbearable. 2 different doctors have to sign off and then you are prescribed the meds which you can then take when you want - with or without medical people being there. Here is one states process if anyone is interested how it works. www.health.vic.gov.au/patient-care/voluntary-assisted-dying

I was thinking a pill when I read capsule. This sounds an awful way to go. I don't have a problem with physician assisted suicide when rules are followed, but why would anyone choose this? In states that allow it, isn't it more like what happens to animals? An injection combo?
