My dr is putting me on Mounjaro because I'm just a smidge over the line for diabetes. I've been taking Semaglutide for weight loss and it hasn't done anything. I'd like to lose more weight and if Mounjaro can help with that along with diabetes, then I'm all for it.
For those of you who have been on both, did you notice any differences or side effects?
Thanks!
Update 7-18.
Insurance covered the Mounjaro and it was only a $30 co-pay because I'm on the line of being diabetic. I took my first shot today and I'm anxious to see if this will work better for me with weight loss and help my numbers go down.

I started on compounded Semaglutide first and didn't have much luck with weight loss. I switched to compounded tirzepatide and it was life changing for me. I wanted to lose 30 pounds and lost 35 pounds. I was really worried about putting the weight back on when I came off of it as I couldn't afford to stay on it even at a low dose. So far, I really don't think about food like I used to and have been able to continue with no snacking without much struggle. I've been off about 2 months now and haven't gained, in fact, I've lost another 2 pounds.

I've tried the compounded semaglutide off and on for a few months will no luck so maybe switching will make a difference!

I've only been on Mounjaro, but my experience vs those on semaglutide shows me I made the right choice.
I have a friend who has been on both, she said she tolerates the Mounjaro (tirzepatide) much better, much less nausea.
My goal was hoping for 30, aiming for 20. I actually lost 52 lbs and I maintain that on the lowest dose. I'll keep taking it as long as I can afford it because it's been life changing for me.
I'll tell everyone who asks how much is helped with menopause, not just my weight but my whole metabolism/hormonal balance (not that I expect it's that way for everyone, but it's definitely true for me!).
ETA for reference I am 5' 2.5", usually comfortable at a well-muscled 130-140; got up to 167 after menopause kicked in, gaining over 20 lbs in a year; consistently weigh at 115-118 now, eat whatever I want but I just don't eat a lot or crave things usually anymore. I did lose a lot of muscle mass and I've been really lazy about working out, full disclosure.

I've lost nearly a third of my initial starting weight on Wegovy. Part of me wants to switch to Zepbound (the weight loss version of Mounjaro) because I've stalled on Wegovy, but I'm not sure if my insurance will cover it.
I will say that studies have shown people lose more weight if they are not diabetic, so I don't know how you will fare.
The worst side effect I had with Wegovy was sulphuric burps, but that eventually went away. I've only felt nauseous once while taking it.
My blood pressure has dropped to hypotensive levels at time, which could be a side effect, but I don't know it is also because of the weight loss.

I was told by my endocrinologist that Mounjaro is the strongest of those type of medications. My sister (diabetic) couldn’t tolerate Mounjaro as it caused the neuropathy pain in her feet to increase. They put her on Trulicity instead.

I started on Ozempic and with the nausea plus lack of appetite, I lost about 30 pounds. Then with the Ozempic shortage, I started Mounjaro. Still have nausea but most notably, I find (and others I’ve talked to) the appetite suppressing action dissipates as the week progresses. I haven’t lost more weight, but I’m being evaluated for a 3rd recurrence of Cushing's disease, a primary symptom being weight gain. I haven’t gained any weight, but the characteristic big belly has returned.

I'm not ravenous though--and if I'm on vacation and want to eat out and enjoy all the food, I just skip my shot and resume later.

I've been on both, currently on Mounjaro. The Ozempic did very little for me and became too expensive as the dose increased. So far I have lost 33 lbs on Mounjare with no noticeable side effects and while still expensive- not as expensive as the Ozempic.

I have only been on Mounjaro. I have lost 50 lbs so far I still have a lot more to lose. I have to say I have been very lucky as I have not had any bad side effects, I have lost my taste for many foods that I used to like but the only one I really miss is coffee I just can't do it anymore which I guess is good. My a1c is finally under control and my doctor says by December she will probably take me off all my other type 2 diabetes medication.

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) has better results then semaglutide in studies, with generally a higher percentage of weight loss and milder side effects. It’s more expensive, though.
If your insurance is covering it, by all means, go for it!
I was self-paying so I started with semaglutide, but wouldn't have hesitated to try tirzepatide if I felt like I wasn’t getting the results I wanted. I was very lucky, though, and have had very minimal side effects (like almost none!) and lost 35% of my body weight, so I didn’t ever switch.

I've been on the highest dose of Mounjaro for a good year now for my A1C. I work out 5 days a week and eat pretty healthy. I've lost nothing on it. I've lost 80 pounds on my own so I don't understand why Mounjaro isn't helping me lose more. My habits are the same if not better than before. I have zero side effects. My insurance covers it 100% and I do prefer one shot a week versus Metformin twice per day. It has helped my A1C, but I wish I was having some weight loss as well.

My doctor just put me on this for both high sugars and weight loss. So far I'm just on the lowest dose.
For those of you who have lost significant weight while using it, can I ask what was the time on that? Did you lose 20lbs in 6 months? Less? more? I would love to know!

They told me to take the shot on Sunday so you can eat on the weekend. (Not the way I'd plan weight loss, but, lol) This was when I was still trying to get the Wegovy prescribed through my doctor filled, but couldn't ever get it so I went with compounded tirzepatide instead after talking about the options with the NP at the clinic recommended to me by a friend.

I've been on it for one year. I lost 25 lbs in 3 months and the total 52 lbs was within about 8 months. I went from 25 to 50 after the first month, then to 60, then back down to 50, and then back to 25. (This is units, for the compounded med, but it's dosed like Mounjaro not like Zepbound) I do not want to lose any more weight. I keep my dose at the lowest level.

For those of you who have lost significant weight while using it, can I ask what was the time on that? Did you lose 20lbs in 6 months? Less? more? I would love to know! On semaglutide, I hit 20 pounds of weight loss at week 14, but I did stop taking the shot for four weeks in there while I switched to a different supplier. I hit 30 pounds at week 22, 40 pounds at week 30, 50 pounds at week 37, 60 pounds at week 48, and 70 pounds at week 65. For reference, I’m 5’6, 46, and my starting weight was 198. I started at a size 14/16 and I’m now a size 4. Some people don’t see significant weight loss until later on, since you will start at a low dose and titrate up. My weight loss was pretty consistent all along, although it did slow down toward the end, just because I didn’t have as much to lose and I was starting to titrate down. I also started weight lifting around week 40, so while I wasn’t necessarily seeing as much weight loss, I was definitely still getting smaller! (For that reason, I recommend taking body measurements along the way, too, because not all victories are on the scale!)

It wasn’t a crazy difference, but the effects definitely wane as the week goes by, especially at the beginning! I have always taken mine on Thursday nights. I could push through work on Friday, but this way the full strength was effective over the weekend (when I tended to eat the worst before!) and any potential side effects wouldn’t affect my work, although that didn’t happen.

For those taking a compounded version, where are you getting the medication from? My dr wants me to take it and recommended a Canadian pharmacy. But, they messsed up my prescription and sent the wrong dose. They also fulfill from India and can take up to six weeks. I’d love a better option.

If you're paying out of pocket for compounded, there are now a ton of options. Here's a few: Emerge is very easy to use. You simply email or text with the provider. Mochi is used by a lot of people. You'd do virtual visits with the doctors. Lavender Sky is another one I hear about.

I didn't lose anything on sema (Ozempic). And I was nauseous all the time on it. So I switched and have lost good weight on tirzepatide (Monjouro). It is very very slow and I still have a bunch to lose. I have averaged .81 lbs per week. The people who have had miraculous quick losses DO exist. But there are also people like me who are taking what feels like forever to get to goal weight. I'm down 36 lbs now with about 20 to go. But I have zero complaints because without this tool I would be going the exact opposite direction...

I go to a local clinic and they use a compounding pharmacy in Florida to fill the prescriptions. I'm not sure where the FL clinic gets the ingredients, but I can certainly vouch for them working as intended. Also, my Facebook feed is filled with online options each time I participate in one of these discussions, so you could always check one of the bigger companies But I'm actually not looking for name brand as it costs more and comes in a one-dose pen. I like being able to choose the dose in case I ever need to titrate up or down. I buy 2 vials at a time to save money.

Not my plan either. We tend to eat out a few times on the weekend so I definitely eat more so I do my shot on Friday morning so I don't overeat on the weekend. During the week it's pretty easy for me to eat little as I'm home alone most of the day and just don't have much appetite. I still don't lose weight with Mounjaro though....damnit.

I used HenryMeds, which had me meet with a doctor in my state via zoom. (I liked having the face-to-face, the first provider I used just did a phone call.) The prescription was sent to me automatically, every month, from Empower compounding pharmacy in Texas.

I have tried both sema and tirz. Started compounded sema in March of 2023 and did 2 rounds of 3 months with a month off per the med spa. I lost 30 pounds and decided to try tirz from a peptide research online company because I wanted to lose more. It gave me horrible heartburn that I'm still dealing with a bit. I switched back to sema from the same peptide research company and lost another 10 really slowly and I continue a low dose to maintain. I would be ok with losing maybe 5 more pounds but I'll be happy where I'm at. My doc is over the moon and was ok with when I ordered the compounded version. I'm not sure what she would think of the peptides. I was wary of it but it is what it is, and so much cheaper than even the compounded version. I just now reached a "normal" bmi weight, this is the smallest I've ever been since 4th grade and I'm 66.

My boss has had great success with Mounjaro and weight loss, decrease in her A1C. She stated that she will not override the lack of desire for food. No longer part of the clean plate club or grabbing the donut or cookie from the break room table because it is there.
Good luck! Hope it is as successful for you.

I hope it helps you with the weight loss. It has helped me.. I am down about 40 pounds. I am NOT one of those who lost TONS of weight though. It's been slow and steady. Beware, I hope you have better luck in getting it each month. I play the game and some months it's a breeze and other months it's like pulling hair to get my prescription filled. One month I went to about five pharmacies trying to get it. My best luck so far has been a grocery store (Safeway, which I hate to shop there)

I started on Ozempic the very end of September. I know I didn't increase my dosages at the appropriate times for various reasons. Then my mail order provider stopped doing mail order ($99) and the in-pharmacy price was ridiculous (over $400) so my dr switched me to Wegovy. I found a Savings card online and when I picked up my last script it was going to be $50 but it was free with my insurance and the savings card! I've only lost 33-35 pounds so far (been bouncing back and forth) but I increase to 1.7 tonight and I'm very hopeful this will be helpful! I SOOO wish I had gotten on Mounjaro or Zepbound and may look into switching over if I cannot lose any more.
