Years ago I used to always get my pictures from Costco and get 2 sets, one for scrapping and one for the regular albums I had. Then started just getting one set and had them saved in my computer. Now my computer is on the fritz and need to get those pictures off the computer and onto something I can access to print photos for scrapping, picture frames etc. what do you all do for photo storage?

I use multiple cloud accounts, Shutterfly, Google photos, Amazon Photos and One Drive. I like to have redundancy in my backups in case one of those websites shut down (small chance of these but you never know). I have have an external hard drive I backup to locally (backup phone photos to my Mac, then backup my Mac to an external drive using Time Machine). If you aren't going to replace your computer, I'd go with a cloud account and download the photos you want to print as needed to your phone.

I keep a copy on my computer, a copy on Google Drive, a backup on Carbonite, and Amazon photos has the majority of photos from the past several years also. I need to replace my external hard drive but I had a copy there also.
(hard copies are stored in the Iris 16-case photo boxes)

I sometimes feel like a broken record, because I have posted this so many times. Nevertheless, I will say it again...... hard drives, both internal and external - are NOT safe. I have owned five external hard drives over the years, and all five of them have eventually crashed and died. Fortunately for me, I always had two on the go at once, so I never actually lost any photos. These days I pay for 2TB iCloud storage. It's not worth the risk of losing all of my photos and digital scrapping supplies.

When I first uploaded the photos from my (now dead) EHD, I connected the hard drive to my MacBook, then just dragged them from the EHD to the iCloud in Finder.

I took Miss Freddy's Backup Bootcamp during the pandemic, so I now have my photos on OneDrive and on two external hard drives. I know that I will eventually need to replace my EHDs, but they are not my primary backups.
I love that OneDrive organizes my photos by year and then by month. I have it set up so that my iPhone photos automatically go to OneDrive. It was more cost-effective for me than the other Cloud services, plus it gives me Word, Excel, and other Office Products that I need.

Everything I've ever had printed from Costco back to 2009? Is on Shutterfly. They send me emails about "remember that day in 2011? All.the.time...
I have a hard drive on my PC just for photos.
I-cloud has everything that is on my phone (until I download it to the computer)
and we pay for a back-up service for the main PC which includes my photo hard drive. I've actually had to use it, and it does work.
I had a computer crash/issue in 2019 and I'm pretty sure I lost a bunch of photos from when everything got moved to a different computer. Also, my photo "editing" software, unbeknownst to me, as I was trying to organize at one point was deleting photos entirely from existence instead of saving them. Both events still tick me off... multiple back ups are a good idea!

And I've also had to use it when my computer died and I was able to recover everything. I love that it backs-up automatically because I'm not awesome about doing that myself, lol. It's only for my computer - not dh's or DD17s - but I'm the keeper of photos (and documents and genealogy) so mine is the one that makes sense to back-up.

I upload all of my photos to Google Photos (and pay for extra storage) because I really enjoy being able to tag people and being able to search for photos by theme, date, etc. I upload all of my layouts to Shutterfly which will host them for free as long as I purchase something from them once a year (or once every 18 months?).
I also have two EHDs that I back up my photos and digital scrapping supplies to with one living at my parents' house and one living here with me. They are "rugged" stable state drives with water-resistant/drop-resistant cases on them like you would have on your phone.

My photos are on 2 EHDS and also backed up on Amazon Photos and Backblaze. My phone has the extra iCloud storage (but that is just for the photos on my phone at the time). I use the Lightroom app to get the photos from my phone into my Lightroom library. Miss Freddy is a great resource to figuring out the photo storage system that works best for you.
