My elderly parents moved to a 55 plus cluster community. Their home is 1 floor with windows that go almost to the floor. Previous home, bedrooms were on the 2nd floor and they left the windows open at night. Looking for some type of device that will allow them to partially keep windows open at night for fresh air without allowing someone to enter while they're sleeping.
2nd, their doorbell is not loud enough for their hearing. Any suggestions on a loud doorbell with perhaps a few doorbell "receivers" they can put in multiple rooms. No flashing device needed.
With prime days, I'd like to save them a little $$ if possible. Thanks!

Note: those are listed as frequently returned. Long ago I had some that were alarms, that if the two pieces were separated the alarm went off. A door bell can be rewired for all over the home, there are ones that turn the lights on and off, often used by people who are deaf. @birdy

Would something like this wireless doorbell work for them? It looks like you stick the doorbell to the door or the wall and then the receivers (chimes) can be placed wherever needed in the home.

My Ring goes straight to my phone. Is that a possibility?

Just curious as to how often does someone come to the house that rings the doorbell? Usually just deliveries or solicitors at my place. It's boring here. Maybe your folks have a happening place...lol....my wyze doorbell is loud.

Plus deliveries, etc. I'm also selling a lot on FB for them and they can't hear when someone comes to p/u.

Not sure how the alarm ones would work since they open windows all the way during the day and would like them just a crack at night. Is that possible with the alarm ones?? Also, don't want not have to rewire all over the home, looking for as simple as possible as they are almost 80.

Scroll down on the Amazon page, but before reviews there is a note from Amazon. I see it often positive or negative.
I guess they would have to click the button on the alarms. They are just two pieces with sensors. Or do it the very old way by putting items on the bottom window top ledge that would fall if the window were to be opened from outside.
When I say wired for the doorbell, I mean operable. Technology should be your friend. People get alerts on their phones from remote doorbells when traveling etc. There must be a way to do that, I think.

This might be the time to go to a hardware store and discuss the situation with someone.

My thought on the window locks revirdsuba99 said are returned... If your grandparents don't have the hand strength to really, really tighten them, they are kind of going to be useless, because if not tightened, the window will still slide open. Even if someone did it for them, they would still need to be removed if they wanted to open the window wider during the day.. You might want to consider that.

If the windows slide side to side they can cut a wooden dowel that will only allow it to open as far as they want. This is frequently used in sliding glass doors.
Not sure the best way to do that for hung windows (slide up) but I'm thinking the people at Home Depot would be a good resource.

A wooden dowel cut the length they need would work in windows that slide up to open. Decide how much of the window you want upon and cut your dowel to the length needed.

You can get additional chimes for a Ring doorbell. They're pretty loud. You could place them around the house. They just plug in. I don't think the open window thing is happening. My bedroom is on the first floor of a secluded neighborhood that hasn't had a crime in 35 years but there's no way I'm sleeping with full length windows open.

I was going to suggest the dowel rod thing too! My friends use that all the time. They have dowels in their up/down windows all the time. They use them to keep the windows closed.
Doorbell....I don't have any suggestions. The home we are in now the doorbell is horrible. We haven't taken the time to look into anything else. I don't want to pay for more internet usage so I don't want a ring. I'll watch to see what you guys suggest.

Our windows are the type that you pull up from the bottom to open. About 2" above the middle there is a little tab on each side that you can flip up and then the window will not open more than a few inches at the bottom. So if their windows are within maybe 15-20 years old or newer check and see if there is already something on them for this purpose.

My Ring goes straight to my phone. Is that a possibility? Our Ring sends a notification to my Apple Watch as well as my phone. Our Arlo cameras also send notifications to our phones and my watch that motion is detected and on which camera. The nice thing about the Ring is that I can see the photo of who it is right on my watch.
