I bought a cricut joy but it seems like you can't really do much with it if you don't have a membership to the design space. Is that correct? Maybe I haven't figured it out . I have had it for a year now and really want to use it. I make alot of cards, I guess I thought it was going to be similar to what the silhouette has in their store. Any suggestions as to what I can use it for would be great.

You can upload svg files to Design Space. You can find svg files at a lot of places. I have several different cutting machines that I use at home. I bought the Joy solely to take to crops.

You can use it without a membership. You can download free SVG designs from various places on the internet. You can also buy designs from Cricut, even without a membership. You can even buy svg files from Silhouette Design Store to use with your Cricut. No membership required to buy Silhouette designs.
Cricut’s membership lets you use a lot of their files, but you don’t get to keep them unless you buy them. I prefer Silhouette’s membership and their designs (overall), although I have bought some Cricut designs, too.

i think Cricut has a decent amount of free stuff you can use. i used a lot of the free stuff to cut xmas shapes. i liked the joy enough to upgrade to the Joy Xtra a couple of weeks ago. i wouldn't definitely upload my own SVGs. i've done that with my Brother Scan n Cut and it's worked out well. i don't feel the need to pay for the Cricut membership. i haven't even done the 3-month free trials. too many free stuff out there for now and if not, there are so many sites that will convert to SVG for free.

How do you upload SVG files from the internet or Silhouette store to your ScanNCut or Cricut Joy?
I wanted to make vinyl labels with my Joy, but I kind of gave up when I could not get the transfer tape to lift off the vinyl so I could transfer it. I only got about half the letters and have not researched anything since,

I wanted to make vinyl labels with my Joy, but I kind of gave up when I could not get the transfer tape to lift off the vinyl so I could transfer it. I only got about half the letters and have not researched anything since, YouTube has lots of videos that will walk you through step-by-step. Cricut has tutorials and videos on their website as well, but probably none that explain how to use Silhouette files. I recommend a YouTube or Google search. You'll probably find a wealth of information. I use my Cricut Joy mostly for making cards, labels, and stickers. I have a Maker, and I use it for almost everything. I also have a Silhouette Portrait 2, and I use that mostly for cutting out stamped images using SCAL software. I really don't like Silhouette Studio. Have fun!
