I’m watching a show “worst roommate ever” and in this story they are talking about the roommate buying drugs off the dark web.
I don’t even really know (nor do I) how you get on that. Is this common knowledge? I’m even feeling weird asking here thinking the FBI is immediately watching this post … haha
I’m just curious does the average Joe just go on there? I don’t want to know or Google it but just curious if it is that easy or do you have to know someone that knows something.

I think dark web just means it's deep in the internet, it's not the first things that pop up from a Google search. You have to know where to go. Where 'bad' things are, like drugs.

I was too chicken to do a search, but I believe it's a browser that would pull up those types of places. I looked up what it was on wiki. Tor I think is one of them? So like instead of going to google.com you would go to tor.whatever and type in "kidneys for sale" and see what comes up. I'm being glib, but I feel like that is the gist... From Wiki: The dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets: overlay networks that use the Internet but require specific software, configurations, or authorization to access.[1][2][3][4] Through the dark web, private computer networks can communicate and conduct business anonymously without divulging identifying information, such as a user's location.[5][6] The dark web forms a small part of the deep web, the part of the web not indexed by web search engines, although sometimes the term deep web is mistakenly used to refer specifically to the dark web.[7][2][8]

I always hear about the dark web on TV shows like "Criminal Minds" and "FBI". But I always figured that if I poked around to find out about it I'd end up on some watch list.

You can't just say Hey Siri where can I buy a kidney or some drugs? You'd have go know where to go in the first place, not sure how that info gets passed around and I don't want to know.

Now I feel like I want to ask Alexa whwere I can buy drugs. She'll either tell me to go to a pharmacy, or she'll report me and I'll have the police at my door.

I think the average Joe can go out there. Do I know how to? Nope! I don't want to end up on a watchlist i don't know if an average Joe can easily wander into the dark web but the determined Joe certainly can. i don't want to be on a watchlist too but on some level, i think we all are already (but in a casual, marketing way). i just don't want to be on the dark web watchlist with the terrorists, pedos, identity thieves, and such.

I assume it's like the sketchy part of town--if you have a reason to be there, you'll find somebody who knows his way around willing to take you in exchange for something he wants. If you really wanted to snoop into it, there are programs you can install that let you surf without revealing your computer's IP address. This article will give you info, but you can also search "surf anonymously" or "surf anonymously for free." www.forbes.com/advisor/business/anonymous-browsing/

I'm on the dark web because of a security breech that involved my debit card number. Since discovering this I've (obviously) canceled the debit card. Google says the dark web "is a hidden part of the internet that allows users to hide their identity and location from others and law enforcement. It's part of the deep web, also known as the hidden web or invisible web, and is not indexed by conventional search engines." My understanding of the "dark web" is that it's used for porn and drugs. link

I’ve recently listened to two British crime podcasts, where the perps accessed the dark web. The first case was of two teenagers (one boy one girl) who were on the dark web, and ended up murdering another teenage girl. All I could think was how on earth do a couple of 16yo kids know how to access the dark web?!
