I borrow book for my Kindle Oasis from my library. When I finish a book I press and hold and choose "return to public library" and they fly away. The problem now is that suddenly SO many of my previously read and returned books are back on my Oasis. Well not the whole book, just the cover. But it's annoying to me because it's just like clutter. I don't need to see what i've finished reading. If I wanted to do that I can just go check my library account online which keeps track of everything I've borrowed. I want to see only books that are actually downloaded and on my Oasis. I googled. That sent me to my Amazon account, and "manage content library" or whatever that's called. As a test I checked off five or six books to permanently delete. They disappeared from Amazon, but not from my Oasis. Do you know of any other way to get rid of them besides going through them one by one and choosing "return to public library"? Seems odd that this would be the only thing I can do, especially because I'm not actually returning them to the library since they're no longer borrowed.

I don't know the answer to your question about the Kindle because I stopped using the Kindle app for library books. I had so many issues. Books would disappear, then reappear. Like you said, the ones I'd already read and returned were back. The app would lock up while I was reading and just close down. I reinstalled a couple of times, nothing fixed it.
So I switched to the Libby App for reading books. I know you have a Kindle itself but does your library system have its own app for reading books? You might be happier with it.

I have no complaints about the actual borrowing process and the reading. It's just the book covers that have reappeared. In the grand scheme of things it's a minor problem, just annoying. lol

You said up thread you don't want to read on your phone through the libby app but that is not what people are suggesting. Do you use the Libby app to borrow books from your library? I only use the Libby app for my oasis and I have not had this problem. I can see how annoying that would be though. I keep very few books on my actual Kindle. I would not want to see a whole lot of books I have already read and returned. Are you always connected to the Internet? I only have mine on airplane mode when I am getting new books. I wonder if that might be something to look at?

Sometimes when I press the cover on my kindle it gives me the choice to 'delete permanently'. I have some of the same issues from time to time - wishing Amazon would freshen up the kindle software. It is bulky and hard to manage.

I read on my Oasis only. I do have the Libby app but I never actually borrow books through there except for audio books, since I listen to those on my phone. For my ebooks, although I *could* borrow them through Libby I don't because I don't like squinting at the small phone screen. So I borrow those from my library's website on my laptop. The process is the same though... borrow the book, then we're redirected to Amazon to download it. My problem has nothing to do with Libby. It's just that my book covers have all returned to my Oasis which annoys me. It could actually be that my wifi was on, now that you mention it. Normally I keep it off, but I turned it on the other day to return books (since we can no longer do that from the library's website) and forgot to turn it back off. Normally I just turn it on to borrow a book, then turn it right back off, so maybe the Kindle just doesn't have time to resurrect all my past books. I might delete the ones that have reappeared, then do an experiment where I leave the wifi on for a day or two to see what happens.

They may be able to help you.

Libby isn't just for reading on your phone. I have it on my phone and use that app to find/borrow the books through the library to download on my Kindle. But I don't have an Oasis, just a Paperwhite, so I'm not sure how to fix your issue.

Are you not able to download the Libby app to the Oasis? I have a Fire and downloaded the app and then open the book through Amazon to add to my library. Never had this issue.
I wonder if it because you are using the computer and then accessing it on the Oasis so it is downloading recent activity because you are using 2 devices?

I only read on my Paperwhite, and except for Prime First reads, only read library books borrowed via Libby. All my returned library book covers show up in my "from your library" section. Beyond going 1x1 and deleting I don't know if a better way to get ride of them. I love my Paperwhite but HATE the user interface. It is slow, clunky and not intuitive. Things that should be basic are not. IMO it behaves like 30 yrs old tech.
I never use the Kindle app on my phone. I do wonder if that might have a better interface and functionality. Might be worth a try 🤷🏻♀️.

Check your display options on your Kindle and make sure it's filtering to show downloaded books only. Mine seems to reset from time to time to show everything, and I have to go back to re-click that setting. It's in "filters," I believe.

monklady123 - I agree! I hate that the covers of returned library books stay on my Kindle. I have the PW Signature kindle. To remove a cover from a returned library, Prime, KU book, I click on the three dots on the right of the book cover and press Return to Public Library, Return to Prime, or for a book I've purchased, Remove Download. I think the only way is one by one.

Hmm I haven’t had that issue. When I download a chunk of books, input my phone in airplane mode so that the hooks can stay past their “due by” date. I can also “freeze holds” on my library app so I unfreeze them when I think I will soon be ready to read them.
I agree the interface isn’t great, but man how I love my paper white!!!

For reference, I have an old Paperwhite.
I will borrow library books with Libby, but then need to download them to my Paperwhite through Amazon. So I usually just use my iPad or computer to borrow a book so I only do it once.
It bugs me when the “covers” remain on my Paperwhite, so I go to the Manage My Devices page on Amazon and delete them. They do disappear and I’ve not noticed them reappearing. I wonder if it’s because you normally leave your Oasis on airplane mode and it hasn’t had time to delete them from the device? I’ve noticed it can take a while to sync up my Paperwhite.

I occasionally read purchased ebooks, on the kindle app (if it's not available for free in the Library ebooks)....on my laptop or occasionally on my desktop. Every time I log into the kindle app via amazon.....a "read a sample" pop up appears. It's a sample of the first ebook that I purchased....back in February. I "X" off of it every time. I have tried and tried and tried (many googled tips and instructions) to make the pop go away completely, but so far it keeps appearing . Annoying and frustrating.

Make sure you are on downloaded books and not the whole library. I don’t know why Amazon does that when you’ve checked it out and returned the book, but it happens on mine too, so I just keep it on downloaded instead of my whole cloud library.

I use the libby app on my phone to reserve books. WHen a book comes in, i click borrow and then it gives me the choice to read with Libby or read with Kindle. I typically click read with Kindle, which takes me to amazon where I click "get library book." Then it downloads it to my kindle app on my ipad AND the kindle oasis, so I can switch btwn the 2 (if needed). I can mark "currently reading" on goodreads, and when I finish on the kindle, it immediately allows me to rate the book. When I am done, it takes me to amazon to return the book. I havent really looked to see if the covers are still there, they probably are.
I like to do it this way bc if a book is ready before I am, I can tell it to deliver later, and it gives it to the next person in line. I am not sure how the Libby acts on Kindle.

Ok…When you return a book or delete it using the kindle, it is still saved in your amazon account which is why the cover keeps popping up. I use Libby to get my books and have an Oasis. This is how I removed books using my iphone. If I remember correctly it works the same on the computer. - To permanently remove the book log in to your Amazon account. - Go to your account settings and select content library. - Select ‘books’ - The option for library books will say ‘delete’, books you purchased will say ‘deliver or remove’. You can select all of the library books, click ‘bulk actions’ at the top and it will give you the option to delete. This permanently deletes it from your amazon account. You can also delete them individually.
As someone else said, when on the kindle make sure you are on ‘downloaded’ instead of ‘library’ on your home page.

THIS IS THE ANSWER! lol. Why the heck did my Kindle all of a sudden default to showing everything? I found how to switch it to "downloaded" and boom, only the current library books are there. And the few books that I own. I will use the other suggestions on how to delete library books from my Amazon account at some point, although I suppose they're not really bothering anyone by being there. lol. As long as I don't have to look at them all on my Kindle, and scroll through them all, then I'm happy.

Be warned that on mine, it seems to revert to that "show everything" setting somewhat regularly now. I also have an Oasis, so I wonder if it has something to do with that.
