gillyp - law! You kept that quiet ROFL! I’m sure I’ve said at some point. I was in law for about 20 years, with a small break for kids, before coming to Scotland. Quite possibly- you know what my memory is like 😄

I wanted to be a veterinarian. I went so far as attending a specialized high school that had an animal science program. I don't remember what happened but I lasted at that school for a year. I loved science and I thought I was going to be pre-med but then discovered I can't stand the sight of blood or the thought of bones or people in pain. So then I decided to become a scientist which I did for a few years but decided it wasn't quite what I wanted. On a whim I applied to law school and got accepted. Best choice I ever made since I love what I do. Was the bar exam super hard? My dad's wife's son went to law school but never passed the bar after 4-5 times so now he does legal stuff, but not a lawyer. He's sensitive about that subject so I never asked him. Not an attorney but my brother is. He and Steve Young (former NFL quarterback) graduated law school the same year (and same school). My brother passed the bar the first time, it took Steve Young a few times to pass. My brother will tell it it's easy but I'm sure Steve Young will tell you differently. I think it really depends on the person and how they study and how they take tests.

I took it more times than your dad's wife's son. I was determined even though EVERYONE thought I was crazy (or dumb. or both) for taking it as many times as I did. It is hard, but its also a mindf*ck after you've taken it multiple times. I've had other people who failed numerous times ask me for advice. 9 times out of 10 they don't take it again because the prospect of failing again is too much to handle.

At 10 years old I took my first acting class. That was all I needed to know that I wanted to be on stage. I started professional voice training when I was 16 and after high school graduation and one year of college, I dropped out and went to an at-the-time prestigious acting school. I was just about to make my break as a character actress when I realized that I hated the Hollywood lifestyle. The drugs, the dysfunction and the shallow people were scary to me. So, I went back to college. I was studying to become a psychotherapist.
Bills and life got in the way, since I was older and I had to leave school. I had worked retail management to support myself and did that until I became a recruiter and hr. manager. I hated every second of those jobs and when I had the opportunity to become a SAHM I ran to it. I had planned to finish my degrees and internships to become a therapist when the kids started kindergarten, but I became ill.
Alas, I was a stay-at-home mom and very fulfilled. Now I'm in my 60's and I'm taking voice lessons and I'm reminded that singing is joyous for me. Though I'll always wonder what would have happened if I'd taken that next step as an actress, I know that I wouldn't have my family and nothing beats that, not even being on stage.

I know I'm missing my calling for a second career as a Hallmark movie actress! Not saying I'm Meryl Streep, but I could definitely hold my own in a Lifetime movie or crime scene reenactment. They always need middle aged actresses to play mom, aunt, whatever. I sure can't sing though.

Did you take drama classes when you were young? Performing was great, because when I was on stage I could control the room. I could cry or scream or laugh and show extreme emotion. It was like therapy for control freaks.

Thank you needmysanity . That makes sense. scrappyesq , wow that is a whole different prospective, thank you for that. The son tends to want to reflect to be something he is not, so that makes sense that he did not continue. Congratulations on not giving up!

I feel like I'm very good at acting but it's not like I have any judges besides people who know me. I used to have fun writing "scripts" as a kid and then acting them out while cleaning the house, a one-man show. Making up additional scenes for movies or TV. I always had an active imagination! And I still do it.

A waitress at CoCo’s lol. My grandma was a seamstress for Cole of California so she made me my own waitress uniform complete with pocket to put my pad. After becoming an adult even though it wasn’t at CoCo’s I did wait tables for a few years and it wasn’t nearly as glamorous as I’d imagined. I ended becoming a bone density tech and have worked in health care now for almost 27 years which is a career I love.

I have never had a desire to be anything, on career days in elementary school I had no clue what I wanted to be. Even now I don’t have a passion for any type of work, I enjoy my simple life with my family and if I could make money being a mother and caregiver I would but that doesn’t carry much worth in this world.
Currently I assist architects, designers, draftspeople and contractors get building permits approved at my local building department.

I always wanted to be a musician. I am one, but it turns out I enjoy doing music with kids much more than I would have enjoyed all the rejection and uncertainty of a performer’s life.

First female ML baseball umpire. I was an umpire as a teenager. Then went to Busch stadium to apply as an usher, but they were union, so I got a job as waitress in the elite club. Worse job of my life and terrible tippers. Never did become an umpire.

Radio disc jockey. I was obsessed with the radio since I was little. I'd even done a few things in high school to further that along. Then when it was time to look for colleges, my parents said they had nothing. So I graduated high school and worked full time. This was the late 80's. I worked in pharmacy until I had my children.

I wanted to be a teacher. I manage IT Support teams. I don't think anyone grows up saying they want to be a manager in IT Support, hahaha. But I think it is a good fit for me. My oldest daughter just graduated in April with bachelor's in Elementary Education. She will be an amazing teacher!!

Marine Biologist - or anything that didn't require me to sit at a desk all day. My Dad insisted I take business classes in high school.
I am an accountant, I have hated it for over 40 years. I will be retiring at the end of this year.

As a senior in high school I told my mother I wanted to be a pharmacist. She told me that you need to be really smart and have a lot of money to go to pharmacy school. I was a National Honor Society student, but we did not have a lot of money. I never brought it up again, but have wondered many times how my life would be different if I had become a pharmacist. Then, many years later, discussing my father's various drugs he was on, one of the siblings was questioning what each med was for. I was aware because I had been to several of his doctors appointments, so I filled them in. And my mother's response 'oh heckofagal, you should have been a pharmacist.' I probably would have been a teacher if everyone wasn't moaning about how underpaid teachers are. Teachers I know have made more $$ than I am making and are retired at my age with a nice retirement. Oh, to be 17 again!

I wanted to work in the travel industry. Which I did for a few years. Probably my favorite job but pay was low and everything based on seniority. So after about six months of almost getting laid off, I gave it up. I wish I would have tried another avenue but it is what it is.

And he's successful in Florida, even on CBS Sunday Morning a few weeks ago.

I wanted to be a teacher, and I was a teacher for 18 years. I burned out on the administration and parents and moved into a new career path. I'm now a case manager for the elderly and disabled. While my co workers talk about how difficult this job is, I just tell them that it's still easier than my teaching job.

I wanted to be a librarian and a school bus driver! Could be because I had a crush on the school librarian who was also my bus driver. She was so sweet and pretty. I probably thought that was what all women should do. Or a teacher but I didn't want to do that.
I am neither, although I was a librarian assistant when I was 14. My first summer job that wasn't as a babysitter.
