First, I research candidates, issues, etc, for myself. I don't take anything at face value. I also get the Americans with a Conscience checklist and I do some of the things that it suggests. I also send $$ to candidates that align with my beliefs and are actually out there trying to get things done.

I am really not political, but I really do not like Trump! I am considering donating to something democrat related, I'm just not sure what yet... ETA: I have never got a political, handwritten postcard reminding me to vote. We don't register for a political party in Washington, so maybe that has something to do with it, maybe there isn't a list, or maybe I'm just not on it. OH yes we do: Only for the Presidential Primary Election. Presidential Registered voters will receive one ballot with all the Republican and Democratic candidates. You mark one party, and vote for the candidate you like the most for a spot on the general election ballot. If you do not mark a specific party on the envelope, your vote will not count. You do not get one pick for each party, you get one overall. The party you mark on your envelope should match the party of the candidate you choose — it is not asking you to formally affiliate with a party, rather which party you are giving a recommendation to. This is to determine a nominee for the general election. Read more at: www.tri-cityherald.com/news/state/washington/article285859971.html#storylink=cpy

Isn't it nice to get mail from your poor desperate friends. Secret Ballot?

My boys (19,22 and 24) have received handwritten postcards reminding them to vote. We live in NH.
I have donated, I will write postcards and I plan to volunteer to drive people.
My mom volunteers for the League of Women Voters. I’ve thought about joining, I just haven’t done anything about it yet.

I used to volunteer - write postcards, text, etc. Donate.
This year we are in the middle of a perilous financial and health situation and I will vote.

I have automatic donations going out every month. Last presidential election I wrote postcards to swing states and I just signed up to do them again.
I'm trying to brainstorm some ideas to do with friends in other states.

dawnnikol, this is great to know - deserves its own thread! We will be having a tech from our internet company here then, or I'd hop on the webinar in a heartbeat. It would be great if we could all help spread the word in the next few hours!

I just donated money to Kamala and now she won't leave me alone. I have donated money to Katie Porter before, even though I live in Ohio. I just love her. I have major phone/social anxiety so I'm not really good at a lot of the other stuff. They are just going to have to take my money.

…I have major phone/social anxiety so I'm not really good at a lot of the other stuff... I consider my phone an essential device that gets me get through the day (alarms, calendar, etc.). I get anxiety when I receive a barrage of texts for any reason. Election season is difficult. You block one and there’s 10 more. It’s also often unnecessary as I’m already politically active. The data nerd in me thinks repeated texts to me are a poor use of anyone’s time given public records of my voting history. I’m also in an industry inundated with political discourse over the election season. I advocate for people all day through the work I do. Sometimes I need a break to recharge and refuel without a barrage of political texts. That said, I appreciate the hard work everyone puts in during their free time. I just wish targeting algorithms excluded me as I feel it’s unnecessary.

I donated one time a few months ago and the absolute barrage of emails and texts I've gotten since then has made it likely I'll never donate again. My candidate lost, I am not just going to blindly send money I really can't spare to every candidate and issue they now want me to.
I don't recall ever receiving a handwritten post card reminding me to vote but I do like that idea. Around here the most activism you see is hard signs and the occasional person collecting signatures for a ballot initiative.

I received my latest batch of postcards to send yesterday. Excited to get started. I plan to do 20 per day. Very happy that Texas is considered a "swing state" (at least by this organization) so I get to send postcards to increase turnout in my own state. www.turnoutpac.org/postcards/ (Signups are temporarily paused, so check back.)

One big thing that people can do, that maybe they haven't considered is volunteer to be an election judge (work at a voting location). We know the GOP is going to heavily recruit their people, so don't let them control the show.
