Is it just me or is his withdrawal on twitter seem weird? I don’t know why but it just doesn’t seem like something Biden would do. He has always struck me as someone who would want to tell his followers “in person” Know what mean? It just seems like he would want to address his supporters publicly, not by X. Was it at least published on White House letter head?
I’m just feeling so bad for him. Used and dumped buty those he choose to trust. I’m not a big fan of his but he deserves better than the left has handled this situation.
None of this adds up to me.

He may still be sick from Covid (cough) and wasn't he isolating at his home?

Ok. I don’t even know what I asked that. I’m just so disappointed that he has been treated like this. He has to be heartbroken

There’s no conspiracy: joe was backed in a corner, repeatedly stabbed in the back, and then thrown under the bus by his own party.
That sums it up.
Unless you want to go further and say obama was definitely involved, the left bs’d the American people gaslighting them insisting joe was fine, including kamala, and after the primaries they went in for the kill.
Yep, now that really sums it up.

You can tell how much the right is freaking out by the vehemence of their supposed concern for Joe.
No one could make Biden do anything he didn’t want to do, full stop.
The Trump party just can’t believe that Biden would put country over his personal ego, because their candidate would never.

The right (or at least FoxNews) talked endlessly about how Biden was not fit for office, how we needed to step down, how mentally incapable he was, etc. And yet, when he decides to not run again, suddenly they are all about the "bad" treatment he is getting.

Yep, now that really sums it up. There are many people who have said that they had many meetings with him over the last 6 months and didn't notice anything off. I really don't think it was this huge conspiracy cover up. As for Democrats stabbing him in the back--I don't like all of the leaks to the media or people saying in public that they were urging him to step down. I feel that should have been done in private. But I also think that there is something to be said about Democrats recognizing that there is an issue after the debate and bringing it up, unlike the Republicans who all knew there was something wrong with Donald Trump years ago but they have dug in deeper to try to normalize his behavior. As for him writing the letter instead of giving a speech--he still has Covid. If he was giving a speech while sick Republicans would jump on him even more about stepping down.

Next they’ll be believing kamala is working real hard for the nomination.

We’re the ones I feel bad for. We’re the ones who deserve better. The DNC, the people around him, and the media lied to us about his declining health and now we’re hoovered. I saw stories here and there, and laughed them off as just political dirt. By the time they realized they couldn’t lie to us anymore, Trump had gained the momentum. We could have had a fair primary instead of just anointing Biden. We could’ve had a choice instead of chaos. It’s how democracy is supposed to work. it’s not fair to us and It’s not fair to the country. I don’t think I can take four more years of Trump.

It will be interesting, in the years ahead, to get a more complete retelling of how the last month has gone. I've seen some comments today that there are some Democratic operatives who are a little unhappy at how this went down... hoping to play kingmaker. Not upset enough to make a public stink about it... just that annoyance when someone else nips you at the line. However, with a simple letter and a follow up Tweet endorsing Harris the "old man" seems to have outmaneuvered everyone else. Also pointed out, was that Joe is a 40 year master of backdoor politicking. It's why he thought he could help Obama get things done, and get more done with his own presidency. It's been a multi-week crapfest, and suddenly yesterday out of thin air everyone is aligned, indicative of some plan? Or did someone just talk with enough people that they had the confidence to know where the chips would land once they... he... made his decision?
President Biden deserves a lot, including being able to choose when and how it would end. This campaign has been about someone younger, and blew up because of "public speaking," so to me, it does make sense he might choose a newer form of media, and a simple letter over some big, press conference where people would dissect his every pause, Covid cough, or misspoken word. He can get emotional, and this has to be an extremely tough moment. Let him have his privacy without speculation that it's weird in a sinister way.

I saw a report that Covid has made his voice pretty bad, worse than normal. I'm guessing he is also still pretty angry and maybe he just needs to calm down.

Reading the various versions of whether Biden hid his issues all the way to stabbed in the back - I'm guessing it's all true.
Hid his decline, stabbed in the back. It's backroom politics playing out in public.
If the MAGA crowd had standards and applied them to trump, they would be calling for him to reveal real doctor reports and to step aside for someone who isn't such a confused rambling hot mess. At least the Dems care

There's a big gap, however, between what one side is selling that he's suffering full on dementia, Weekend at Bernies prop, vegetable, etc vs. old age has simply caught up and the joint rigors of running a campaign and performing his duties as President was too much for him to be effective, or is healthy.

I assume he chose to release the statement rather than make a public announcement because 1) he is sick and probably has a weak voice and 2) if he summoned the press everyone would know what he was up to. We've been expecting this but was anyone expecting it to happen like that on a Sunday afternoon? It was really a brilliant maneuver and sort of a 'f@ck you' to the press.
Last night I watched the CBS special on Biden's exit from the race. They did a profile on him showing various interviews over the years. The difference between Joe Biden in 2020 and the interviews he has done in the last month is stark. I've no doubt at all that he made the right decision. I wish he had done this months ago or at least 1 month ago to allow more time for a competitive selection of a candidate but this is where we are.

Biden on his worst day is still a better person, a more compassionate person, a more honorable person, a more intelligent person, and a more coherent person than trump on his best day.
Biden put country over himself. The timing of his withdrawal was chosen for very specific reasons that have nothing to do with his having been ill a few times.
All of the Democrats I know are thankful for Biden's decades of service to the American public and excited for the future.

I think the timing of his announcement is brilliant. He waited until after the RNC and blindsided the MAGA's. The RNC was all about bashing Biden now they don't have a national convention to do the same to Harris.

The entire RNC was a waste. 😂 They spent all that money campaigning against someone who’s not running. 🤣 They even have to redecorate their campaign headquarters. 😂 With the Dem base so fired up, with only 100 until Nov 5th, the momentum is on the Dems side. The GenZ crowd is happily engaged and that’s the bucket of voters needed to win this. Enthusiasm, momentum and a short time span all work in the Dems favor. If Biden dropped out earlier, I think it would have led to way too much infighting and chaos of who to pick as the nominee. Let’s face it, Dems were not ready for 2024. The succession plan did not exist. And they’ve been fighting against all media focused on Biden instead of Trump actually saying he will be an authoritarian dictator and what’s actually in Project 2025. On Saturday I was pretty much resigned to a second Trump term. Now at least I see a glimmer of hope the he can be defeated.

As I've said way back when, he won't be finishing his first term. He dropped out of the election, he has not stepped down from his role as president, despite ridiculous calls from Republicans. Passing the torch will allow him to focus all of his attention on his job as president. Biden did the right thing and did something in the best interests of his country, something Trump is incapable of doing. Trump can’t even understand why service members are willing to sacrifice their lives for this country. To him, they are losers and suckers. If I recall correctly, you predicted he would step down within the first few months. That didn’t happen. So far, he has served 3 years and 6 months of his term. Sounds like you’re bitter that Democrats outmaneuvered Republicans. The MAGA Republicans based their entire campaign around bashing Biden and he’s no longer the candidate. They’ve completely lost their main talking point that Biden is too old and now all of those comments will come back around to bite them. Now that the media is no longer focused on the drama about the possibility of Biden passing the torch, they can focus on Trump and project 2025. Republicans know that their candidate and policies are widely unpopular. Republicans are stuck with Trump and Vance. Two white men who have made misogynistic comments and alienate voters, especially women. One is old, paid millions of dollars in a civil case about sexual assault and is a convicted felon. Democrats have a younger candidate who has energized the party and young voters.

Biden is planning to address the country tomorrow night. I think the delay is simply because he's recovering from covid. The announcement on twitter might have been a little dig at mainstream media which has been pushing really hard for him to step aside in the last 3 weeks.
