I just saw this on the news and was like hell to the no. Curious who you would like to see run and win. I am a fan of Thurmond (because of how pro public education he is) and our current Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis.

He is a hard no from me strictly because of his age. Currently 71, he would be 73 at the beginning of the next term in 2026 (maybe even 74?). Boomers need to bow out gracefully IMHO from political leadership in this country. And, yes, I'm a boomer.
I'm not ready to speculate on who might run, but half expect Katie Porter to be in the mix.

I'm an old Gen Xer, very young boomer (born late 1964) and I agree - people age out of these roles. They just do. It's a sad fact and hard to swallow, I know. But I don't think of 71 as all that old; that depends on the person. I don't know him or his present condition, but I know plenty of 70 year olds who are sharp and healthy and vibrant. 74, 75...that would make me pause more. These kinds of jobs take a lot out of you.

I don’t live in LA so I don’t really know the good and bad about Villaraigosa. At this point it’s way too early for me to make any sort of decision.

I don’t know much about him but remember hearing that he was not good. I sure hope there is a descent choice when the time comes.

I don't know anything about him but I'm another one that's sick of people over the age of 70 running for office.

So, wait. The California gubernatorial election is in Nov. 2026. Two years away. Is is normal to announce your plans to run this early?
Anyways, I don't know much about him. I heard both good and bad things. And being 71 now, 74 when he takes office, doesn't mean he is too old. It is all relative and people age at different rates. I would prefer someone 50-65, but I wouldn't discount someone that is 70-75.
