I have very wavy to curly hair (2C/3A) and it is getting thinner as I enter my mid-50s. It just isn't doing its thing any more - it is getting more frizzy and my curls no longer last past wash day. It is time to really make an effort to get it to curl. All the curl videos have sooooo many steps and who has time for all of that, but I think I can at least commit to some good products to hopefully bring some life back to my curls.
I have been using Aveda Be Curly for years, but ready to try something else.
If you have similar curls, what do you use?

I use LUS Love Ur Curls. I only shampoo twice a week, but I condition every day.
When I get out of the shower, I don't touch a terry cloth towel to my head - I comb leave in conditioner through my hair and then scrunch a gel in and wrap my hair in a t-shirt. Leave it for 20 minutes while I put my makeup on, get dressed etc... Once I pull it out of the t-shirt, it's good to go. I either air dry or diffuse.
All that said, I recently complimented someone on her curls and she recommended Innersense products, so I may try those.
And nothing will help you without a good haircut for curly hair.

I bought a brush like this for my daughter and I, and it's wonderful. Defines and separates and we have very little frizz anymore. Curl defining brush

I do the plop method starting with a leave-in conditioner, then curl cream and wrap up into a turban. I can go about 3-4 days on one shampoo by re-wetting and scrunching every day.

I use Authentic Beauty Concept products such as the cream blue container and body foam in the tan can.

DD uses Innersense when she's willing to pay for it. I use Shea and Not Your Mother's Curls and I don't love either but they work well enough. They definitely don't last more than one day anymore though.

Can you explain this further? About two years ago I was really sick with pancreatitis and because of the shock to my system and then not eating very well a lot of my hair, thank God I have a lot of it, fell out. My primary doctor checked my B12 level and it was a little low, but nothing major. Anyhow, my hair went from very straight to wavy/curly. It’s also very heavy like it always has been and thick like it always has been until it started to fall out, etc. I’ve yet to find a gel or curl cream that keeps my hair and wavy for more than three hours. If this turban thing works, I’ll give it a try but I need a little bit more specifics lol

I use Curl Keeper liquid styler or Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Curl Enhancing Mouse.
Both have given me great results with nice curl clumps and hold. I second the curl defining brush.

Then I put my products in and kind of scrunch it in there. Over a t-shirt or a micro-fiber (never terrycloth), bend your head forward and plop your hair onto your shirt/towel. It works best if you lay it on a surface rather than just trying to gather up your hair into the towel. You want to kind of accordion your hair into the towel. Then wrap your head up, and let it sit for a while. I usually just leave it in while I apply my makeup and get ready for work so about 30 mins. Take the towel off, and scrunch your hair into place and you're good to go!

Also try putting your products on while your hair is soaking wet. Scrunch with a tshirt instead of a towel.

Curl defining brushI've always been told that brushes are the enemy of curls, so this has me curious. When do you use the brush - wet or dry? before or after applying product? Do you just brush straight down or is there a scrunch of some kind involved?

You do very small sections and kind of twist the brush around so the edges are able to separate the curls.

I use a microfiber turban hair towel after I shower. While my hair is still sopping wet, I apply a leave in conditioner (currently Shea Moisture). Then I brush my hair with a Denman brush and scrunch. Then I apply Kenra Curl Glaze Mousse. and I diffuse with a blow dryer for about 5-10 minutes and let the rest air dry.

I’m using Innersense and also a curl defining brush. I like the products, but my hair is thinning, probably due to both my age and my recent weight loss, so it’s hard for me to make a comparison to my curls from a few years ago. Hoping it’s just temporary, but this could be my new normal. 🤷🏼♀️

I gave up on my think curly hair--with the loss of hormones due to menopause and losing a lot of weight, my hair is very thin and fine and only wavy instead of curly. It dries frizzy and it's easier to just blow dry and straighten.
I was looking at old pics and remembered how everyone thought I had a "spiral perm", because that was the thing in the late 80s/early 90s!
I miss having nice elastic skin, too. I'm turning into a crone.
