I've only been to Jasper a couple of times (Banff, etc is closer and where we know people), but the last time we were there in July 2020 my boys and I noticed how many dead/brown trees there were and commented on how quickly they would all burn if there was ever a fire. I know that there's no stopping Mother Nature when she goes on a tear, but the last couple days as we've seen reports coming out of Jasper, it sure hasn't looked like there was much of a solid plan in place for evacuation of all the tourists, not to mention residents ... you'd think 'they' would be good at all of the emergency measures stuff by now with all of the wildfires in the province the last few years ...

This is so sad. We spent part of our honeymoon there. It was just about this time of year and it was rainy most of the time but still beautiful. So sad for everyone who lives in that beautiful place.

There are many fire, heat and tornado warnings across Alberta today.

I’m horrified of the imminent loss of Jasper, one of my favourite places. Being under severe storm, hail, tornado warnings sucked today too.

Wow. We hadn't heard about this. We are in Australia. But we were in Jasper in May. Such a gorgeous place. Incredible wildlife. We saw more wildlife here than we did anywhere else. This is just horrible.

I'm heartbroken for everyone. Everyone how lives there. Everyone who comes to work on temporary basis. Everyone who just loves the town and the park.
5000 residents and 15000 visitors evacuated Monday night at 10 pm. All had to go west towards Valemount as the south and east roads were blocked by fire. The fire was almost 30 km south of town, around Athabasca Falls. It was 12 km from town yesterday morning. It reached town last night, it was out at JPL too. Late afternoon first responders will pulled out, fire break was stopped working on, helicopters and water bombers stop. Early evening on those with breathing apparatuses were still in town fighting. I saw reported that it was a 400' wall of flames. The trees are so thick and all those dead pine trees wouldn't be helping. The fire was making it's own lightening, like the Fort Mac fire
I've probably gone to Jasper at least once a year for most of my life. Go and stay once, sometimes twice, pass through on the way down to southern BC, stay the night on the way home. So many wonderful memories and beloved places.
Also hoping that a fire doesn't hit historic Bakerville and the town of Wells. They were evacuated a few days ago also.
I did see within an hour of the reports that it was hitting town, people from all over the province were already asking how can I help? What can I give? I have room at my place. So many have received help from fellow Albertans if they were in the Fort Mac fire, Slave Lake fire or High Level flooding.

We stayed in Jasper for 3 days on our trip there in August 2005. We fell in love with the area and the town. This breaks my heart for the people of that region and Canada in general.

I am hearing that it raining up there, fingers crossed.
It sounds bad but haven’t seen much beyond what we were seeing last night.
Just so many fires.

This is so sad for all of Canada (& the world). I preferred Jasper over Banff because Jasper isn't as commercial.

So sad. I hope everyone is safe. I’m beginning to dread summer in western Canada. 😞

Heartbreaking. Truly special place... valincal, I agree. Son is in B.C. and DD and family and we are in Cali.... it's become a huge issue.

Also hoping that a fire doesn't hit historic Bakerville and the town of Wells. They were evacuated a few days ago also. Interesting to read about the humidity bubble they are creating around Barkerville to try save it. I can't image losing this historic treasure. My heart goes out to everyone from Jasper. Being displaced and having to wait and see what they will return to is awful.

I’m absolutely heartbroken following the updates. We’ve been lucky enough to have visited Jasper several times and it’s one of my favorite places I’ve ever been. I even named my cat Jasper. So many wonderful memories there. So sad for everyone affected.

I have (or had) a vacation planned in Banff and Jasper for late August so I have been paying attention. Truly heartbreaking for everyone’s loss.

We are on our way back from Alaska and were supposed to be in Jasper in 5 days , it’s heartbreaking to see the news and witness the devastation. To honest I am not totally surprised ,we were there in 2022 and we were shocked at the sheer amount of forest that was dead due to theses nasty pine beetles .
