When I first heard about it, I was interested, because my craft budget is limited and I'm not always going to drop $100+ at one time. But I soon realized it worked well for taking advantage of sales here & there without losing your sales savings to repeated shipping fees, too. Especially when it's a daily sale, and I may only want a couple of things. Plus, right now when so many things are on pre-order, I'm finding myself really liking it, because I would have had to wait for those items anyway. So now I can wait for them, and have the waiting do me some good. And again, I can still get the % off for ordering pre-order items. So, all in all, I'm very pleased with the idea. And I imagine when everything is finally shipped I'm going to feel like a kid on Christmas morning opening a package that contains so much more at once than I typically buy!

I am loving it! I can take advantage of the Daily Deals and the warehouse sale too without spending my entire budget. I am so happy with this shipping change!

I did not even know about it. Thanks for posting. I usually get better shipping prices from SB.com so I kind of avoid ACOT. But now I will have to reconsider. I have no problem waiting for stuff (mostly).

I haven't used it yet, but I love the idea of it. I've missed out before (had items in my cart go "out of stock"), because I was waiting to place the order....until met the minimum shipping requirement. I loved that I can buy it now, making sure I get the items....then waiting until I have enough in my orders to meet the minimum shipping. I don't mind waiting on several orders >> combined shipping, especially if it means I don't have to pay shipping costs.

So when you do this are you pre paying for the items just like you do with preordering? Or does it all sit and hold and then once you are ready, get charged?
I haven't read up on it as I just usually do pre orders and then a regular order of in stock items but to combine them and save on shipping would be cool.

Yes, you pay for everything (except the shipping) right then, and those items are earmarked in their system as being sold and being yours. If you accumulate enough orders to reach free shipping, the items are mailed out to you with no additional charge. (Provided none are pre-order items, of course. If some are pre-order, then you'll still have to wait, just as you always do. ) If you decide you don't want to wait anymore, then they will still give you whatever shipping discount you've earned, (There are 4 different shipping discount levels.) they'll charge you that shipping amount, and they'll send your goodies out to you.

I just made my first purchase because some things were getting low stock and they had a 10% off coupon.
I have some pre-order stuff that I think I will also add with the pre-order coupon.

So I just added something like 50 sheets of clearance paper to my holds, and it was the perfect example of why I like this feature. I didn't want to sit around with those papers in my cart very long, else they start selling out. To buy what I had in my cart right then, would have cost me a little over $20.00 themselves. BUT paper is really heavy, so the shipping would have been over $10. Now $30 is still a great price for 50 sheets of 12x12, BUT I'd much rather not pay half the cost of my product on shipping if I don't have to. So I got to buy everything I picked out and at an awesome price. Sweet.

I read about it when it came out and it sounded like a great idea for me except I haven’t used it because I didn’t get how it really worked - how do they know you want to hold the items and “wait” - that part wasn’t easily clear to me so I just haven’t bothered.

I dug into the clearance sale today and got a set of Posca pens half off plus the 20% off on top of that. I also got some markers for my kid. She does hand lettering and likes the tombow dual brush. I got some paper, a couple of stencils, and some hankies for my husband.
Also got 5$ for spending a certain amount.
Saving up most of this until christmas.
I placed an order last week for some stuff I did not want to sell out when they had 10% off.
I might have reached a threshold for shipping. I should check!
I'm probably like 62 cents away or something like that.

When you're in checkout, there is a prompt asking you if you want the items held or if you want them to ship now.
Choose your option and you're good.
It's after the credit card info (I think) but don't be afraid.
If you screw up, they'll fix it. Their customer service is great.

They've updated it now so that when you checkout, after you verify or enter your address, but before you choose your shipping method, they now stop you and require you to choose either to hold the order or to process it now. It's a screen all of its own that looks like this: acot by Mel Scraps, on Flickr

So now I qualify for 50% off shipping but I can't figure out how to calculate shipping to see if I want to do that or just wait until I spend more.
Anyone know?
I don't want to release the held stuff now just in case.

I don't want to release the held stuff now just in case. If you click the button to release now it will take you to a checkout page with the usual shipping options and prices shown - no orders will be released until you submit payment there, so there's no harm in clicking through to check. Hope that helps!

Just placed my first order using this option! I want the new Tim Holtz witch die set but didn't want to pay shipping of $10 for that thin die. I was able to use the preorder code and 1000 of my cherries to save over $8!
Waiting to see what Christmas and winter dies and stamps are released.

Word of warning, if your memory is crap like mine often is, be sure to look over your waiting orders before placing a new one, lest you accidentally rebuy what you have already purchased. I came *this* close to doing that with one of mine!

I have not ordered from them, but I do like that idea for the random pre-order items.
How long can you keep your cart? I don't do a lot of big purchases.

You order a d pay for it and select hold. They keep your item until you either earn free shipping and release the items on hold or pay for shipping on whatever items you want off of the hold.

I came *this* close to doing that with one of mine! Or you accidentally buy 2 of the same jar of pink stencil paste because you added it to your cart twice! I didn't notice the quantity was two. Ugh. $8 down the drain. It's not a good product to begin with (but I didn't know it as it was the first time I tried that brand).
