My 2 nieces had a new possible contact pop up last night as a 76 year old relative of ours, but his profile and avatar are female. They seem to think he may be catfishing for young girls. I have zero experience with Snapchat. I also wonder if their profiles pop up as a possible contact, if he'd delete his account because he was afraid of being caught out.
Their mom is considering asking a friend to create a fake profile to attempt to connect because our phone numbers would give away our identity.
I can't post this on social media anywhere because he'd see it, so I'm turning to the all knowing Peas.

Is it possible that someone has had the same phone number at one time and has had a snapchat account affiliated with that number?
My grandson recently got a new phone number assigned to him and there was already a snapchat account tied to that number.

My grandson recently got a new phone number assigned to him and there was already a snapchat account tied to that number. Anything is possible. He's had this phone number since he's had a cellphone so over 15 years at least. |

It is possible he has been hacked and someone else using his details. Or are they concerned about his character to suspect it’s him catfishing.
A friend messaged me yesterday - interesting chat but something felt off. I contacted her via different media and turns out she had been hacked and didn’t know

Someone should let PeePaw know he's been "hacked" so at least he knows you're onto him.
Other than that, whatever, not much you can do besides shame him. Hope he's brushing up on his teen girl lingo before he gets too deep into character.
Do you think he's trying to lure girls, or boys? Or neither? Just curious why he's trying to pretend to be female.

Lore is that he's been shady previously with affairs, etc and he had an account with Ashley Madison. He's also super MAGA and reposts a lot of videos with pretty young social media women so I don't think their feelings are too far off. I told the mom of the nieces that perhaps she should make him aware of what her daughters seeing.

I asked my older niece what she thought and she said sometimes men try to befriend girls then exchange photos which I guess could turn into more personal photos. Or, as you say, he could be trying to lure boys. |
