I still remember reading a book on the beaches of Hawaii about atrocities in China during Mao's Cultural Revolution. What was I thinking bringing that for a vacation. That's definitely not the kind of book I think of when I'm deciding on beach holiday reading! 
Co-incidentally (kind of), I was in Hawaii in June 1989, when the Tiananmen Square massacre happened. I remember watching the news reports on the hotel room TV in horror.
I tried a couple of new dishes for dinner. Once again, I think that jeremysgirl would like the two vegetable sides that I made:
Asian Style Roasted Sesame Potatoes
Sticky Chilli Asian Greens - This recipe isn't online, it's in a magazine. It's stir fried veggies with a delicious sauce made from char siu sauce, vinegar, sugar, and sesame oil. I could have sworn that I'd bought a jar of char siu sauce, but couldn't find it. DD to the rescue, she made up a batch of it from scratch!
