Okay, strange title, I know. 😊
I follow someone on IG who I have followed along with on her blog for years. Some of you may remember her—she has a blog called Enjoying the Small Things, but I’m not sure if she still writes there. I have always enjoyed her writing and photography. She has three kids, one with Down Syndrome.
A year or so ago, she divorced and moved from Florida to Michigan, near where her family lives. I have so loved following her as she fixes up an older, beautiful home. She’s just a good storyteller, I think.
Anyway…she is very open about hard things she has done being a single mom of three kids and two dogs. Recently, she posted about an issue she had to take care of with her basement windows that she had been dreading and putting off, but in the end it felt so good to deal with it and get the issue fixed. That morphed into asking people to share their own “basement window moments,” meaning things they accomplished that they had been putting off. She has been sharing some of those stories, and the whole thing has made me think about sooooo many things that I have been putting off doing, that I know need to be done, but the thought of them stresses me out for some reason.
So, this week, I have experienced one of those type of moments. This is going to sound really dumb, but I guess that is the point—feeling accomplished for crossing something off your list that you needed to do but haven’t.
Here is mine:
On Christmas night, my kids and I were on our way home from my mom’s and hit a deer with my car (my son in law was driving). My car was totaled, and at the end of January, I bought a new car. Don’t judge me, but I have not licensed and titled the new car. Part of it is $$...one of the biggest reasons is that my stbx had not paid our personal property taxes, and until that was done, I couldn’t license my car. Those were $1,600 and out of principle, I wasn’t paying them myself because my husband has a very expensive vehicle worth way more than mine, so the majority of the tax bill was because of his car. I just kept driving hoping I didn’t get pulled over and get a fine. Not smart, I know! Don’t lecture me about that. LOL
I texted him a few days ago when he was out of town, and told him we need to pay them. He has to license his car in August. I told him if he would deposit money to at least cover his car’s portion, I would go pay them. Miracle of miracles, he deposited what he estimated to be his portion yesterday. I also had to get my car inspected, and I did that today, then went to the collectors office and paid the taxes. Tomorrow, I have to go the DMV to get my license plates because I have everything I need now, and I feel sooooo freaking accomplished. LOL I am going out of town for the weekend, and I really didn’t want to have to stress out every time I spot a police cruiser, so I’m relieved I will have my car properly licensed. LOL
I have more “basement window moments” I need to take care of. But this one is a good start.
Okay, this got way too long! But do you have a basement window moment to share?
