I’m with my mother waiting at the hospital for her follow up appt with the surgeon.
She wears hearing aids and is LOUD (I am too lol) I shushed her a few times. It echos in here.
Now these two older ladies are having a convo at TOP volume. So annoying lol!
It also doesn’t help that her appt was 12:00 and it is now 12:30…

When dd had to go to the emergency room last winter, the homeless lady bellowing someone needed to bring her socks, and then complaining no one cared about "old Beth" was interesting to say the least...
When I took my mom for cataract surgery last summer there was a waiting room just for the eye surgery department so it was very small. When the fire alarm went off, we (there was one other person waiting)couldn't figure out if we were supposed to evacuate the building or stay there... When we looked into the area where all the nurses were, they were standing around talking, so we just sat there until it finally turned off.

I drove my dh to A&E last week, we were directed to the "needs to be seen but can sit" area rather than the "needs to be seen but must lie down" area.
Apart from the length of time involved it was as good an experience as it could have been. It was calm and quiet, the cleaners must have done the rounds about three times, the staff were in and out to let us know what was happening.
They had a table with jugs of water, cups and squash. And the biggest surprise, as the time extended over lunch one of the nurses set out packaged sandwiches for those waiting. That has never happened before but it was appreciated.

I'm fixated on the "squash" part... What do you mean? They had cut up squash by itself? I'm going to assume it means something different than squash here, which is a vegetable that has to be cooked to be eaten.

cakediva ~~ I have sat in that same waiting room (or another one at that facility). The doctors are great but the appointment times are best to be considered a *guide*. (((hugs)))

Waiting rooms are no fun. I have been in one for 8 hours today while my husband has some skin cancer removed. I am getting aggregated by the lady having a full blown load conversation on her cell phone for the last 20 minutes.

One of the things our University Medical Center and Children's Hospital as well as outpatient centers is good at is volume control. There are signs all over about keeping a respectful calm presence and if anyone complains, they will be given a warning. If they don't quiet down or stop the foul language, they will be asked to wait outside.
Our community hospital? Loud.

I love the idea of a "can sit" area and a "must lie down" area. It's so miserable trying to get comfortable in a chair, depending on your reason for being there.
Can't imagine sandwiches being offered at our local hospital.

I had a heart calcium test a few weeks ago (the one time you want to score a zero - yay, me!) and there was a man in the waiting room yelling into his phone on speaker. I don't think the person on the other end knew they were on speaker - can't imagine they wanted an entire waiting room to know about their GI problems.
And then sitting near him was another man eating as loudly as he possibly could. I have issues with the sounds of eating, I own that, but this was disgusting.
I wanted to walk over to them and say "you two realize you're not at home, right?"

I was in a brand new hospital for an out patient procedure.. the waiting room was lovely.. nice big chairs, other areas to sit.. so I didn't have to sit next to anyone.. a reader board telling you what stage patients were in .. waiting, in procedure, in recovery.. quiet..
other than the fact I had to wait 30 min past the time they told me to show up.. and then waited another 30 min for a nurse. it wasn't bad. I have been in small crowded ones too .. don't like those at all.

Can't imagine sandwiches being offered at our local hospital. Or if they did, at least here..."Why aren't there any gluten-free options? I'm vegan, why don't they have sunbutter? Oooh, this turkey is gross, don't they have roast beef? Why don't they have honey mustard? No sides?" To the more direct issue, I had a lady doctor visit yesterday. They took me back promptly and had me go ahead and undress all the way. Then I proceeded to sit in my jonny on a 2/3 length table for an HOUR before they came in. I was tempted to go out there, boobs flopping in the breeze freely, to ask WTH was going on. I think they count on people trying to maintain some sense of dignity.

Can't imagine sandwiches being offered at our local hospital. Yeah there is just no way. The number of homeless people would quadruple and there would be complaints as well. Anything to DISCOURAGE lingering in the ER is needed here because it's always, constantly, full and probably 1/3 of them if not more don't even need to be here. Unfortunately, this is primary care for a lot of people.

there was a man in the waiting room yelling into his phone on speaker. Why do people do this? I see it everywhere. People walking around talking into their phone with it on speaker in the grocery store, in every type of waiting room you can imagine, outside, inside... I don't understand!
