I have recently started hanging out on Threads and I am loving all of the #BigDadEnergy posts about Minnesota governor Tim Walz. I was glad when someone from MN asked if it was just his feed that was filled with Tim Walz posts because he’s from MN. I wondered the same. Others were replying that Tim Walz is showing up on everyone’s feed. It’s all very wholesome and funny.
He’s such a typical Minnesota guy and it’s funny to see him resonating like this. Threads is an enjoyable place to hang out when you are killing time on the internet - lots of good political vibes.

I haven't seen it. Personally I like him, and think he's funny, but where I live, in northern MN, everyone up here HATEs him. It's so odd, to hear all the media and left loving him, and hoping for him to be the new VP, but I think a lot of negative would also come out. but who knows.

We for sure will visit the George Floyd riots if he gets the nod. He’s shown that he will enact progressive issues if given a majority. He seems pretty comfortable defending those choices too - they are things that help people. When I have subbed in a high school kids have told me that they are choosing to attend post secondary schools where they won’t have to pay tuition. That is life changing. I am glad to not hear anything about people not paying their lunch bills at school anymore. Free lunch & breakfast is a break for working families. My brother said his family saves about $200 a month with that. I live in outstate MN too and I just don’t have the time to listen to all of the griping about him.

Your part of the world is rather red, so that doesn’t surprise me. DH has met him several times for work events when Walz was attending a veterans event. Several Veteran homes have opened up in the past 2 years in outlying areas of the state and I think Walz has been to all of them (but don’t quote me on that, he may have missed one.) He also frequently attends veteran memorial ceremonies, again often in rural areas of Minnesota. DH has been very impressed with him when working on legislation to benefit veterans.

Personally I think he’s great and I don’t want to give him up. He’s done a lot of really good things for Minnesota and the rural haters are gonna hate anyone with a D behind their name no matter what they do.

I had not heard of him until recently. I really liked what he had to say in recent interviews. He pushes back really well on the Republicans, especially Vance. He comes across as genuine, down to earth, relatable, charming, charismatic etc. I think he could potentially appeal to moderates, Independents and possibly, rural voters. I hope he keeps campaigning for Democrats, whether he’s on the ticket or not.

He is a former teacher. I think that helps to make him more down to earth.

He is a former teacher. I think that helps to make him more down to earth. It makes him very good at explaining things in a way where people listen and understand. He comes across as the guy you remember as your favorite teacher.

I live in the burbs in a semi rural area and OMG the people on NextDoor from neighboring more rural areas are definitely haters. The most recent Republican governor did absolutely nothing for this state and it was on his watch that the I-35 bridge collapsed. People really do have very short memories.

Rural MN HATEs him. Esp his handling of COVID. which was like every other state.but you know rural MN. and closing down schools. Then there is the whole George floyd handling which was another huge mess. JD Vance will be all over that, and of course the pro-choice which is very prominent in MN

He is a former teacher. I think that helps to make him more down to earth. Not just a teacher, but also a football coach and an advisor for the gay-straight alliance at the high school. And he’s a veteran. He’s been accused of dressing down and looking more like the plumber than the governor. He’s about as real as a politician can be.

Appealing to rural voters might just be wishful thinking because I'm from a blue semi-rural, suburban town in NH, not the mid-west. Wishing there was someone to help heal the growing rural/ urban political divide.
