So a little backstory. I am the WORST person in the morning when I'm on my way to work. I don't want to have conversations. I just want to get on the train and mind my business for my hour long ride. I used to leave my building super early just to avoid people.
For the last few weeks I've had no desire to get up at 5, so I've been running in to people. I usually stand by my door to make sure there is no one by the elevator (yes there is something wrong with me) and I don't take it unless it comes straight to my floor.
This is only in the morning...during my evening commute everybody is my BFF.
A few months ago a new neighbor moved in across the hall. The first thing I noticed is that he leaves his bike in the hallway which he isn't supposed to do but building management hasn't done anything and since it's not in front of my door I'm not going to report it. If I am in the front of my apartment I hear his comings and goings.
The neighbor himself seemed a little strange, but more in a way too friendly way. Always saying "hi" or holding the door when he sees me coming. Hi in the laundry room. Hi by the mailboxes. A nice guy I suppose but not when I want to be left alone.
In the morning he leaves right around the same time I do now and usually he takes a minute to get his bike and put on his gear. I wait for him to go down before I walk out. Today I was in a rush and annoyed because its hot and I wanted to get on the train to get to work before the worst of the mid-morning heat. I heard him and I figured I would get out and get the elevator while he was getting his gear on. NO SUCH LUCK. I get to the elevator and I see him speed up, clearly with the intention of getting on. I wasn't going to be rude so I held the door. He gets on. "good morning. how are you". Grudgingly I responded as we took the slowest elevator ride ever. When we got off I let him walk ahead of me, and one of the supers was there to hold the front door. The super asked me if the guy spoke to me. I was like yeah. Today and ALL THE TIME when I see him. Apparently, this was a surprise to the super. Gossipy man that he is (I've been the subject of said gossip and stopped talking to him for years up until recently). My neighbor is on the spectrum and does not speak to anyone. He lived in the building next door (same complex) and moved on my side because he was having issues in that apartment.
Can someone please pull my entire leg out of my mouth?
Now when I see him I will say hello and engage but boy do I feel terrible.
