I agree 100%. Shame on them! I expected better from Janine.

I like the solid patterns in Vintage Orchard.
I LOVE most of Rust and Revs, minus the words and sayings.

I feel like the b-sides of Rust & Revs are the perfect example of a company creating a very specific theme, but then making the effort to make that line also work for other uses. They could have added car/travel motifs to every b-side, as I've seen other companies do with theirs. But instead, if I saw just these paper sides, I doubt I would have guessed this particular theme. I might have guessed some sort of rustic farm or country theme instead. Patched denim overalls, barn wood, flannel shirt, and some gears from machinery. Documents2 by Mel Scraps, on Flickr Documents by Mel Scraps, on Flickr Agree; the distressed/rustic/grungy reverse sides make the collection more versatile.

... Count me in on liking the rub-ons. I had some from both Making Memories and Gin-X. I will definitely be picking out one font to try. Once you purchase & have a chance to use them, please post a review here. TIA.

Rust & Revs looks AI generated. The text on the signs, etc., is bizarre. I agree 100%. Shame on them! I expected better from Janine. As discussed in this thread, the designer - Dennis Bruton (ETA: introduced in May here) - is South African. Perhaps elements that appear odd are actually common there.

Can you specify what you're referring to? Because I can't zoom in on my desktop and I can't see the packaging well enough to figure out what might bring about a "gross" reaction from someone.

No, this is not another language or something. Telephone pole wires don’t grow out of the wood anywhere. That text is no known language. It’s an odd mishmash of all kinds of texts that AI image generators have been trained on. This is very obviously AI generated (to me). That doesn’t mean a designer didn’t put in the prompt or clean it up so the vehicles have two headlights or something, but this carries several hallmarks of AI generation.

I did specify; I gave several links to the examples (see edit at end, I misunderstood). It’s gross to me because it isn’t real. It isn’t disclosed, so it feels deceptive. It’s gross to me that somebody thinks selling this weird bizarro world garbage is ok. And it’s gross to me that a talented artist who could design all the elements has lost out on a job. Edit: i am on my phone in bed so can’t mess with it all now but will try to post closeups tomorrow.

AI generated stuff is the new thing and it makes sense that some designers are exploring its capabilities. But as for me, it creeps me out. Art is a very human thing to me, and I prefer to keep it that way, honestly.
Again, I love 49 and Market products, but this is unsettling to me. That’s all. I don’t understand why it doesn’t bother some people, much like you may not understand why it bothers me so much.

tech.co/news/ways-detect-ai-images-examples(Click through images at top:) https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/comments/1bzach8/a_cool_guide_on_spotting_an_ai_generated_image/ Also, there’s a subreddit that often picks apart AI images and is a great training ground to spot them, but I’ll have to try to find it tomorrow.

Your post didn't specify anything more about that: That comment was originally posted alone so I didn't realize you had the same issues with the cover as the ones mentioned in your later posts. I was trying to figure out if the name of the line or the description or something were weird and I couldn't see anything, because that was the "text" I thought you meant.

I truly cannot see the products well enough to see these details, which is why I asked in the one instance where you did not specify that you were looking at the tools, or the signs, etc. I knew you were obviously seeing something I couldn't. It's part of the reason I tend to focus on b-sides when I buy papers. Some products give better enlargements on some sties than others, but even the enlargements on my large monitor are not enough for me to see what letters/words were written on those stickers. I just knew it was a rustic car/travel type thing, and I didn't need that, but beyond that, I was pretty in the dark about the details.

Here is (hopefully this links correctly) a picture with the details I noticed. The one with the telephone/lamp pole is in all the package branding. lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AP1GczOhXgXvMoC1-GcQ_jYuTN-j9umh-GDvLlwN1Vdb8ddD-8svU_fkKyQnRkgWsw5VrsbyAx48Kg8MdDaUhCRmZYt00--ferCzjTN3lDi5XYuuJ1VN-Lug=w2400

I wasn't expecting you to make the pictures work for me, but these definitely do, and now I can totally see what you're talking about. I wasn't seeing that lamp post/telephone pole at all, nor did I notice all of the fake words.

I had no idea there were any words on those elements at all. If you hadn't said something, and I actually needed car items, I would have bought them with no clue!

Yep. And some of those "tools" are just kind of floating on the pegboard. They look more like instruments of torture or something out of a fantasy novel.

Now I'm squigged out by the car line. I hate the look of AI.
I do like the die cut frames and sayings, though. I don't see much AI in that pack.

I was weirded out by the signs not making sense on the paper and the AI gen explanation totally hits. So, I think this is an opportunity for customers to provide feedback. I DO like the B sides alot but I agree I do not like the fake look for most of the other sides. Even that denim one feels off to me. My gut feeling is to figure out a way to provide them with some constructive feedback on this. I think that they need to know we like the concept of the theme and colors, but not the AI. generative images. That is good and useful feedback. Listen, everyone is trying to figure out where AI fits in so I don't fault them for giving an AI designer a try, but giving specific feedback would help them.
I can totally see the 49 & Market aesthetic being something that someone attempts to recreate using gen AI. I think it's valuable for them to know that customers may have some big issues with both the use of AI and the actual look of the products. Just my 2 cents. I will still likely get some of the papers because there are some B sides that will work really well for a project for my college son, but agreeing with y'all I do not like the AI generated look.

Like you, I also suspect this collection is AI (but am not an expert or familiar with the designer's style, except for viewing his debut collection, Academia) & am not interested in/supportive of AI-generated artwork. I'm already not a 49 & Market (or current Fancy Pants) customer due to its vintage aesthetic, faux watercolor/distressing, epoxy embellishments, etc.

Thanks for your responses. I'm not the target audience for 49 & Market, so nothing is added to my wish list.
