DH and I are hoping to go on kayak trip soon. The company recommends putting the phone in a waterproof phone bag. I know there are some that you can actually take a picture through the bag.
Does anyone have one they could recommend?

I don't have one to recommend but wanted to suggest that you test whatever you buy. We bought 4 to keep our phones safe on a cruise. My husband water tested 2 with paper inside and submerged overnight in water. They stayed dry. Unfortunately, he assumed all 4 were safe and didn't test the other 2. One of them with my daughter's phone in it got completely wet inside and ruined her phone. By the time we got it apart back on the ship parts of the inside had started to rust from the salt. So, just a PSA to test before you use so you don't have our experience. Have fun on your kayak trip!

Usually the kayak company gives you some to use I’m surprised they don’t.

Isn't your phone water resistant?

When I went on a cruise I got some off of Amazon, cheap, they worked great. I had it hanging from my neck in the ocean. I wasn't submerged for any length of time, but in/out. I think I could take pics but I don't remember for sure. They came in a four pack and each one had a different color snapping thing on top.

Isn't your phone water resistant? I use them so the phone won't sink. The bags keep them afloat.

Does anyone have one they could recommend? I purchased this on July 9, 2022 and it hasn't failed me yet at the waterparks: Hiearcool Waterproof Phone PouchVideo is another story since it's basically a ziploc bag, but it's still fun to use. ^.^

I just purchased those same phone cases for an upcoming vacation. Still need to do the water test. Glad to hear they are working well for you.

I’m Peaing from my phone today, so I might not be able to link properly. This is the one that I bought a couple of weeks ago, for my Thailand trip later this month: www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B00WXFSA5W?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_titleI had originally planned to buy a hard case, but then thought I’d try one of these pouches instead. The one I was going to buy had great reviews. I can’t remember the brand, I think it had California in the name?? The one I bought also had good reviews, and was considerably cheaper. I have not tested it for taking photos in water yet, although I have done the water test. I have tested using the camera and video, and also swiping the screen, while it’s in the pouch, and it works really well. ETA: I have the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and it just fits in the pouch with the phone case on.

Usually the kayak company gives you some to use I’m surprised they don’t. In my experience they provide a general dry bag. Not a personal phone case that you can use to take photos with. We just went white water rafting last week. I did not get submerged, But definitely thoroughly doused. No issues with my phone, I used a random waterproof phone pouch I had on hand. My personal recommendation especially if you have a small breast size tuck your phone inside life jacket when you're not using it. Mine was very secure and out of the way while rafting. I just took it out when I needed to take pictures or video. My sister-in-law who has a much larger chest was barely comfortable in her life vest so I'm not sure that would work if you were in that group.

Thanks for the responses! I want to take pictures, and I wasn't sure if the tour company's would allow for that. I have those in my Amazon cart, so I'm happy to hear they worked well.

I use the same style others have posted, along with a dry bag and sometimes a small cooler. With the pouch, as much as anything, I’m able to get to my phone quickly when we come across a gator or other wild life. Plus, depending on the kind of kayaking, you may not have a choice but to get soaked. On our last outing, someone was blocking a waterfall and I had no choice but to run up beside him. My kayak ended up perpendicular to the water with the spray coming over my head. Oh - that’s the other thing - bring caribeeners or rope to secure everything to the boat. I was thrilled that I had done that! But most of the time, I don’t get more than a drop or two of water on me.

One tip I would suggest is to put your phone in upside down so that when you are holding it right side up the straps are hanging from the bottom of the phone. This keeps them out of the way when you're taking pictures and makes holding your phone properly while taking pictures a lot easier.
