Tomorrow ds takes his senior photos. He won't receive a diploma when he walks and graduates. He won't run off to college or start a career. He won't move out or take off on trips with friends.
But he will attend his last year of high school as a strong, healthy, more independent young man who wasn't even supposed to see age 10.
For a young man who has faced a crap load of challenges, and is still facing some new medical ones (I have decided to no longer post about that stuff but it is scary), he has overcome every single one with his strong will and relentless spirit.
He faces each new day with a smile and positive attitude and is happy to be alive.
I still can't believe my baby boy is a senior.
I am glad he likes to prove medical doctors wrong. It brings me so much joy 😊❤️
After he graduates he will be in the adult services class, or as he calls it "college like sister!"
So here is to all our pea SDC seniors. May our kids continue to thrive and blossom as themselves.

His achievements are more meaningful than finishing high school. How proud you must feel. I hope this is an especially good year for both of you.

That's a very big thing to celebrate! I know as a mom of a special needs kiddo it's hard to not compare our kids to others. My youngest spent his whole school years in special ed and there were times when I hated being a special needs mom. Other times it was the greatest joy. I'm so proud of what he has accomplished and I'm sure you are the same with your son.
Give him a big High 5 for me!

Why wont he get a diploma??? Only those who do A-G classes (gen ed and RSP support SDC) get a diploma. It shows mastery of required graduation classes. So 2 years math, 4 years history, 3 years science (1 lab science), 1 year language or arts, etc etc etc. And you need at least a 2.0 GPA Moderate, severe, and profound SDC classes are not GPA grade based and while he is a high school student he is not earning credits. When he is done at 22 from the adult program he will receive a completion certificate.

I'm so glad he is getting to experience similar milestones, walking at graduation, and having his senior pictures taken. And how absolutely cute is it that he is planning for "college". ❤️
