This thread is a sort of spin-off of the quote thread. lilacgal posted: Don’t make me crop you out of the photo! So, have you ever cropped someone out of a photo? Who and why? I have. I have cropped strangers out or simply covered them up. I have also cropped or covered my annoying AF sister-in-law out. There! I said it.

Strangers yes. But family or friends? No.

of course - sometimes strangers, sometimes I haven't gotten a good single shot of everyone in a group but with judicious cropping, I can get at least one good photo of everyone on my page, and sometimes one of my kids(or DH) will 'photobomb' and depending on the photo, they might get cropped out.

I have covered up strangers or background objects but I don't recall actually cropping someone out of a photo. I'm sure I have, though!

Yep. She was a friend of a friend and I cropped her out of a group picture that was framed in my house. I have zero regrets about it.

Heck yes. Even family.
If my niece or nephew is making a weird face and they are on the end, out they go.
If you can't act decent, you're not going in my book.
I've also cropped out my chin if it's at a weird angle and I don't like the way it looks.

Usually just photobombs or background people.
I would like to crop my brother-laws ex-girlfriend out of my wedding photos but that would be complicated (to crop, not emotionally or anything.)

Yes, but usually strangers or objects that look odd. I learned how to use PSE to crop out strangers and blur the background. I like it so much I made the switch to digi scrapping.
My Samsung phone makes it very easy to crop photos. I wish I had this technology 10 years ago.

Oh definitely. Different reasons:
one could be a bad picture of one person out of the group, if there are other pictures of them.. not to totally delete person from the layout strangers focusing on maybe one person in the pic if I was scrapping my nieces/nephew and their dad is in the pic, he's getting the old chop-a-roo. BAD BLOOD on his side. (I have not chopped him out of pics done in the past)

Not cropped people out but my husband has a program that deletes people. He has deleted strangers in the background and yes even an x-SIL from a couple of photos.

Yes, usually strangers. Or sometimes I'll crop photos different ways and use both, maybe bcz someone's eyes are closed or something like that.
My SO's daughter was an NFL cheerleader for a rival team. When we went to the game I took a photo of them and another cheerleader friend jumped on the other side. I still used/printed that photo also, but I cropped her out for wanting a photo of just dad & daughter.

I have physically cropped out a relative who was present during events like birthday parties. He was off to the side, so it wasn't difficult. I have not tried using PSE to digitally crop out anyone.

Oh yes. Photoshop is my best friend. As well as removing people out of photos (usually strangers), I also combine two group photos to make sure I get a decent photo of everyone.

Yes!!
I specifically remember cropping my first MIL’s jerk husband out of an otherwise lovely photo. I just didn’t like that man.

I've covered strangers up by using an embellishment or overlapping photos. I've also covered up awkward arms that end up in a shot. Anything with my ex I just put in a box and store it away. I have a whole pile of layouts that probably will never see the light of day again.
I don't know how to alter photos in photoshop but I really want to learn.

Like most of you, I tend to use embellishments or other elements on a page to cover up strangers or their parts from photos. My dd gave me a hard time cuz I used a pic I liked of ME at her wedding for a profile pic, but to do that I cut HER out of the pic! Her dad was on the other side of me in the original pic, but she didn't complain that HE was missing LOL.. I don't know how to alter photos in photoshop but I really want to learn. I like the new iPhone photo feature that will actually select and isolate the people from a photo, so the background can be eliminated. Haven't tried it to cut particular PEOPLE out LOL. I know the context is important, but when background pulls attention away from the subject of the photos, it can be annoying, and its nice to get at least one clear photo of the people enjoying that context. of course - sometimes strangers, sometimes I haven't gotten a good single shot of everyone in a group but with judicious cropping, I can get at least one good photo of everyone on my page, and sometimes one of my kids(or DH) will 'photobomb' and depending on the photo, they might get cropped out. I have actually cut--with scissors--some people out of one group shot and physically moved them to another so all people appear at their best in one photo.

I can’t remember any specific instances but I’m laughing at other people’s enthusiastic cropping of certain family/ex-family members My grandmother cropped herself out of most of her family pictures with scissors, which was a shame.

Yup, and depending how much I like to photo and who is centered I might crop out people I like/love if I need to photo to be a certain size.
For strangers in the background I love Google photo's magic eraser! I recently took a scenery photo and there was just one person in the background. Instead of waiting and getting left behind by the group, I just snapped cuz I knew I could easily erase them.

Yes. It was a group photo and one person left the group on bad terms. Several people wanted the group photo, but they didn’t want that person in the photo. So, I photoshopped him out. Thankfully he was in a position that made it easy and didn’t leave a glaring hole. 😂

On a rare occasion I will crop out a stranger, but not people intended for the photo. On the other hand, I take pictures of animals pooping, so my standards might be different than other people.

I have with strangers like on the beach, or in the ocean, but not usually. If anything, I’ll just cover them up with an embellishment. I’ve never removed a friend/family member.

Cropped out strangers and ugly objects. Covering them up doesn’t always work and neither does the eraser function in my free knockoff PS app.

I typically order 4x6 photos unedited/straight out of the camera & slightly trim them only when using a 4x6 photo mat &/or to eliminate a stranger wearing a neon shirt or other distraction from the background; otherwise, I overlap a title, label, or other element to eliminate the object/stranger.
