I am back today. We were supposed to be back yesterday, but bad storms on Wednesday knocked out power and knocked down trees.
This is my 17th year at this school. I am so excited to have the best schedule I have had since I started here. Hoping it stays that way for the next 4 years. That's when I retire.

My friend is a teacher and her school starts around Aug 18th, and she goes back to work a week before that.

I’m on lunch right now. We started back on Wednesday. Our students do not come back until Wednesday August 14th.
This year is year 26 for both DH and I!

The kids go back on the 26th, and teachers some time the previous week. In the past it was a full week but I feel like they cut that down last year. So I'm not 100% sure. I could ask one of the teachers who I sub for regularly but I don't want to draw their attention to the fact that all that is coming up, since I'm sure they're trying their best not to think about it.

I would have gone back yesterday, but no more school for me!! 😊😊😊
Kids here return the 12th. Summer for our district teachers was only 8 weeks this year because of the stupid, state-appointed superintendent.

Summer for our district teachers was only 8 weeks this year because of the stupid, state-appointed superintendent. Ours was 9, but one of those 9 was mandatory PD to get exchange hours for having a fall break. I miss longer summers!

Never. LOL. I retired seven years ago. Most schools here in New York State don’t start till after Labor Day. We also don’t finish up until the end of June.

Dd#1 is starting her second year of teaching on August 26th ... she will finally have her own classroom and she is so excited!
I'm a semi-retired teacher so it is possible that I could get a booking (I substitute a few days per week) for the first day that student's are back which is August 29th ...
The thought of dealing with the whole "first day back at school" stuff does not appeal to me so chances are I won't be working until after the long weekend ...

I start school on Monday the 19th, the kids come Wednesday the 21st. I always shake my head when I hear that some of you have to go to school a week or more before the kids. What do you do? We will have one 3 hour meeting Monday morning and the second half of the day and Tuesday is our own time to get ready for the kids. It has been that way the entire 30 years I've taught. Any more than that seems excessive. If I needed more days than that I can come in earlier on my own time.
We do have a staff retreat on the 8th but it is optional. I'm not going. I am going to work August 13th for 7th grade orientation and schedule handout. The reason I do that is because I can trade that day for a day off in January. I really want that day off in January.

We go back the 20th. Freshman come on the 27th and everyone else the 28th (high school). On the 22nd we stay until 9 pm for freshman night. We do a shortened day so the kids and their parents can see what their day will be like and meet all their teachers. It’s a long day but we don’t have to do after school and evening conferences in May.

Here the teachers go in the Thursday or Friday before Labor Day and the kids start 2-3 days after Labor Day.
I used to know exactly, but they changed it last year and I cannot remember the specifics, now.

I go back for a morning on the 7th and then back to the classroom for the year on the 15th. This is year 32 for me. I retired and went back three years ago and am learning the role of a reading specialist.

I’m not going back. For the first time in 42 years I’m free as a bird. I retired 8 years ago fro public school then worked for 6 years as a transition specialist in adult Ed. The last 2 years I subbed at a high school. This year I’m staying home and taking care of my 3 month old granddaughter. The pay sucks 😂 but it’s the best job I’ve ever had.
Good luck and best wishes to all of the returning teachers. I hope your days are fulfilling and your stress is minimal.

We have some meetings. Some staff development. Some training. Mostly we get time in our rooms. I always think they give us too much time, but I am still scrambling the day before students come back. Yesterday, I worked on reorganizing a little bit. End of the year is a scramble. I have very little storage space in my room so I ordered some things from Amazon. Monday I will be ready to get my room together. I am the website administrator for our school's website, so it usually takes me at least a whole day to update that. Our P.E. teachers literally have nothing to do after the first day. It depends on your position. We had teachers move to new teams and switch rooms this year so they appreciate the time.

Seven solid days of professional development and data dives in my district this year. Maybe half a day to work in rooms if they’re lucky. So glad to be out of that mess.

My son starts his first day of pre school at our local public school on August 12, so I assume the teachers go back the Friday before? Who knows!

Aug 16 for me, Aug 23 for students. We have a new reading program so I have a feeling most of our PD will be focused on that.

I think my dd goes back later this week. ( DFW ). She is very excited about this year. She was a 2nd grade teacher for a long time, then about 5 years ago, she started teaching 1st grade. She has been at the same elementary school for over 20 years. Well, she is teaching her last year students, first graders, when the class moves to second grade ! Her school is in a economically disadvantaged area. She says it doesn’t happen very often, and she is very excited about it. 😊
