I once put an entire ikea piece together completely backwards. I didn’t realize it until the final piece didn’t fit. my dd24 once assembled her Alex drawers upside down. Her brother does all the IKEA assembly at their house now as it is easier to assemble than it is to unassemble and re-do

I am completely mechanically disinclined. I have people I call except hanging a shower curtain. I do that myself and I got a nice new one recently. I stopped watching tv because it’s too complicated for me. There are 3 or 4 remotes for my tv in my suite. Forget that. I have an iPad that I can manoeuvre very well. may I sit on this bench? Please be my guest. My son and wife just assembled our deck furniture. I don’t ask DS to do anything else because he is busy. It’s all beyond me.

Are you mechanically inclined? Does assembling a piece of furniture, fixing something around the house, putting up wall shelves, installing back splash, replacing a lighting fixture, etc...come easy or hard for you? I am not mechanically inclined, AT ALL. I have been assembly a stand alone skinny pantry type cabinet for the last couple of days(there are about 50-60 screws and thingys). The door hinges are like a tri fold-accordion....I screw the hinge to the door based on the one(and only one) picture in the directions.....I did it the wrong way, took a break from it, un-did it, re-did it another way (that I thought should be based on holding the hinge and the door up to the cabinet)...still wrong, took an overnight break from it, finally figured out which way the hinge is supposed to go >> third times a charm. Even with instructions and directions.....stuff like this has NEVER come easy for me. Good grief....I feel like a mechanically inclined dumb ass. No. I struggle with all things mechanical!

Can I assemble Ikea like furniture, yes. Sometimes it's momentarily frustrating if they don't label the parts clearly but I can do it. I can hang a shelf. I've put together a bbq.
Can I do tile work or lighting fixtures, no. I could put a ceiling fan together, but couldn't wire it and install it. I remember when we were first married,

I love to assemble furniture, and I have mastered the IKEA assembly plans. I’m pretty good at fixing anything that doesn’t include electrical parts. I don’t trust myself with those—don’t want to start a fire.

I am very mechanically inclined as is my DH. He's better at repairing things and I'm better at putting things together but we both could survive. We both sheetrock, paint and do tile work although these days we're more inclined to hire that out just because we can. We only do very minor plumbing things and neither of us will do electrical though other than very basic stuff. We both do landscaping. I have poured concrete. We're pretty handy people. Most of the time we enjoy doing those kinds of things.

Yes. A zillion years later, I'm still chapped that girls didn't take shop in high school. This week I assembled a flat-pack cabinet for my art studio. I have assembled more Ikea stuff than I care to think about. I am also the one who manages all the smart home stuff in our house so we have blinds, curtains, TVs, lights, and even a faucet who all respond to Alexa. Whatever you're doing, there's a YouTube video so have at it.
DH doesn't even know how to charge the doorbell battery. He's hopeless with tools because he won't read directions and if brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough of it.

Not really because I’m too impatient. Too many pieces and parts is more than my brain cares to handle.

I would say possibly. I don’t mind putting things together and can typically with instructions, although there are often missteps or me not paying enough attention to small details/over confidence that I can do it by skimming the instructions . 😆 . I do think I am much better at figuring out the problems and issues when things aren’t right/don’t work right. I live alone and for many things try and do it myself if it is something I think I have a shot of doing fairly well and/or it not costing me a bundle to fix if I mess it up. ETA - I am very good at what we call “McGuyvering things” though. Using weird or different things (found/cheap/or because something doesn’t really exist) to get a desired outcome on a project. I am not sure if that is considered being mechanically inclined or a different skill set? I'm pretty much the same. I can put things together pretty easily, but as I've gotten older my strength isn't what it used to be so I leave it to my sister. But the McGuyvering and figuring out problems, I am the BOSS! I am always rigging/fixing things to work, especially when my sis says it's broke, need to buy new or whatever, nope I can make it work.

I can generally put things together (hello- IKEA ) and can do simple repairs. I can't do a lot of things that require heavy lifting, because of some physical limits, but my husband is extremely mechanically inclined, so he does those and I become his general laborer- so I learn a lot by helping and we brainstorm through problems together. Last winter we installed all new kitchen cabinets, sink and counter tops ourselves. We did have the appliance store install the new fridge and stove, because then they would haul the used ones away. 2 years ago we took out and the installed a new tub/shower surround in our main bathroom, and the year before we took out the old tub/shower surround, toilet and storage cabinets and put in a walk- in shower instead and a new toilet and cabinets.

I am the opposite of mechanically inclined. I wish that I were. I do envy people who can repair or put things together.
If I tried to replace the inside of a toilet, it would probably explode. Stuff that needs to be assembled is done by the handyman or friends, for everyone’s safety.

I am mechanically inclined. Putting things together, or figuring how to fix something, I can do. I've even replaced all the parts inside a toilet tank by myself. My problem though is my size and strength. I am short so I have problems working with big things. And there are times I don't have the strength to unscrew something, pry something off, or hammer something. I am secretly katlady. This is exactly me - I love the puzzle and directions part of it all, even if I've never done it. I love learning new stuff. But the size and strength can definitely be issues!

I wish I was mechanically disinclined! I have always been able to fix things, sometimes intuitively. I once disassembled and reassembled (rebuilt) a motor for a car that was given to much but I couldn’t drive it because I am not coordinated enough to drive a stick! I worked on helicopters for many years after a military career of working on communications equipment—where they were very few women working. Also really good at sciences (I am an RN), computers and computer languages and software, crafting, sewing, spatial dynamics, woodworking, etc. And plumbing. and cooking. And visualizing outcomes and multiple pathways. And never shutting your brain off. Dang DH can fall asleep within 30 seconds. I am lucky if if two hours and thirty minutes. And he rubs in it by snoring—loudly! Oh, wait, yes mechanically, yes, I am.

Not at all! We joke in my family that if something has 3 or more parts I'm not going to be able to assemble it.
I have 2 sons who are each mechanically inclined, as is their father, so I have plenty of help when needed. I try to focus my attention on things that I'm good at and delegate the things that are challenging for me.

Yes. I have my own tools kit and several power tools as well. I know how to replace lights, sockets and switches.
We just bought a house and I replaced all the switches. The bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and dining room & one hall light all got dimmer switches. The kitchen & one wall are also 2 way switches.
I hated the thermostat so I upgraded to a Nest thermostat, the power company even paid for it!
I have built shelving from scratch. I am usually the one to put together furniture. This past week it was a patio table and 6 chairs.
In our old home I helped with the remodeling of the living room, kitchen, a bedroom and 2 bathrooms.
My husband and YouTube taught me everything that I know. And I enjoy doing it.
