Fun fact: My DD is dating the son of an Olympic pole vaulter. The son is working with his dad in the business of training pole vaulters. So she has been to many track events, watching all the events live and intently close with him. I was talking to her today and BF name came up. I jokingly said something about "did ya hear about" and she matter of factly said, no that is not why he lost. His shin hit first. So it seems some take all of this very seriously. As they should but she did snicker.
