Sorry, I have to mom brag on my DD(18).
She passed her state EMT (emergency medical technician) exams today! She still has to take the national registry exam, but everyone says that'll be a piece of cake after the state one. (She also has to get her high school diploma to actually practice, lol.)
She is only entering her senior year of high school, but this is the first step on her career plan. We told her there was no problem with waiting until she graduated and taking the course then, but she decided she really wanted to be a step ahead. She gave up a 12 day trip to 3 European countries as well as (separately) competing in a national water polo competition to be able to do this. 15 hours of class per week, plus clinicals and long study sessions. 4 tests, 2 quizzes, and one final that all had to be passed (in some cases with a 90% or better!) or you got kicked out of the class, as well as something like 10 final skills checks that also had to be passed. She does get something like 6 hours of college credit. She also worked part time for about half of the summer.
She is so very excited and so proud, and I'm excited and proud of her!

Congrats! The best part is that T-Mobile gives an insane discount to first responders. DD is licensed as an EMT and our whole family is on her plan. BTW, she worked midnights in a Level 1 Trauma Center in a rough area and loved it. Hope your daughter enjoys it as much.

Hope your daughter enjoys it as much. Thanks! She's been working with the youth program here, training in the classroom and doing 12 or 24 hours rideouts, for close to a year and a half, and because she's shown her passion, skill, and leadership they really let her do a lot. (Obviously not anything that is potentially unsafe for the patient, and anything that is remotely borderline they monitor closely.) One of the commanders who happens to sit on the hiring board worked a couple of calls with her and has actively recruited her, and was disappointed that she wouldn't be eligible for the next cadet class, but told DD that they'll be looking out for her application next summer!

Congratulations to her! I love that she is on top of this. It says so much about her character. And way to go to you and your dh, as she has clearly been raised right.

Never apologize for a kid brag! I'm pretty sure this is a Pea rule.
Congratulations to your DD. I remember my dad studying for his EMT certification. It's a lot!

I had to be "out of my Pea office" for a few days, but WOW, coming back to all your sweet responses was amazing! Thank you for joining in our celebration!
She's just starting up her back-to-school sports practices and various activities, so she's having the fun of telling more people every day. I volunteer 1-2x weekly with homeless people, and she has gone with me regularly over the summer. A bunch of people were all rushing up to her yesterday when they saw her, asking how it went, and they were so excited and proud of her. It was really lovely!
