I just had another Costco order delivered last week. And it seems that I keep spending more and receiving less, but I guess that is true at most grocery stores these days.
Anyway, I probably shouldn’t have made out my order before eating dinner because everything sounded good to me and I bought things that I would ordinarily never buy. I have been doing my best to stay away from food that has been highly processed. And I have done very well, until this shopping batch. I haven’t opened all of my impulse purchases yet, but I have tried several things that were really good and one that was not good.
The good:
Kirkland Signature Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks. I had seen a recipe for an orange sauce to make orange chicken and I decided to try these instead of making my own. I was half afraid they would taste like those chicken finger things on the children’s menu at fast food places. I tried a bite of one once years ago and it was horrible. But I was hoping that Costco would do a better job. Surprisingly, they are really tasty. It is really pieces of chicken breast, not flaked and formed bits of mushed meat. They are coated in a light breading that makes them nice and crispy, yet the meat itself is very moist and tender.
Oroweat Sandwich Thins. I wanted to make up a bunch of breakfast sandwiches. I tried some premade types that were ok, but they were on a croissant and had some undercooked bacon. I figured I could make my own on these sandwich thins and use Canadian Bacon which would get rid of all that extra fat. I ordered some round thin silicone egg molds from Amazon that made perfect little egg patties. I added spinach, mushrooms, bell pepper, cheese and onions to the egg mixture. They only took a minute in the microwave from frozen. I usually have a protein shake in the mornings, but having a big batch of these in the freezer will be very handy when I have had a bad night and even standing at the counter to make a protein drink is too difficult. The sandwich thins have a really nice flavor and are perfect for someone like me who is not a big bread eater.
La Terra Fina Spinach and Artichoke & Parmesan Dip. Again, not something I would ever buy just for myself. But I do buy it for company. It was very good with just the right amount of artichokes. I think this will also be good as a filling for a chicken breast. I have tried other brands of artichoke dip over the years and this one is the best of the bunch. The Parmesan cheese is a great addition.
Kirkland Kettle Krinkle Cut Potato Chip with Pink Himalayan Salt. I can’t honestly remember the last time I bought potato chips. It just isn’t something that ever appeals to me. I don’t know if it is the Himalayan salt or the ridge cut, but they are the best chip I have ever tasted. But, remember, I am no potato chip expert. And I can’t even say what made me add these to my list, but I’m glad I did.
The misses so far.
Del Real Pupusas. This was not very tasty. The ratio of filling to crust seemed pretty stingy. And the flavor of the filling didn’t appeal to me. The crust was nice though. Honestly, it might be because I didn’t pay attention that they are a beef product. I stopped eating beef years ago. It was a bit too spicy and stringy for me. I just thought it would be a really easy dinner to just heat and eat, no messy dishes, just a small nonstick pan to wash. I think I would like it if it were less spicy. The older I get, the less spice I can handle. It is a box of 10 that is going to take me a while to get through.
There are a couple more impulse purchases that I haven’t tried yet. I normally just buy the frozen chicken breasts, some type of frozen fish, and fruits and vegetables, rather boring stuff. This was a gamble, trying odd things without having tasted them yet.
I will probably buy the sandwich thins again. I have only had one breakfast sandwich so far, but it was so easy that I can see making up a batch of them every month.
And if the dip is good as a filling for a pounded chicken breast, I will buy that again.
The chicken breast chunks sure made putting together the orange chicken really easy since it was just a matter of making the sauce and grabbing a packet of rice from the freezer. I try to make sure there is a stock of baggies of brown rice, quinoa, and wild rice in the freezer to add to dishes rather than having to cook them for each meal. I am big on batch cooking, especially as a single person. I used to enjoy cooking more than I do now, so anything that I can have precooked and in packets in the freezer, the better.
While the potato chips were very tasty, it is not an item that I need to have in my diet. So I will eat these very sparingly, savoring them, but I won’t buy them again unless I am entertaining.
So what are your latest hit or miss discoveries at Costco lately?

Do you watch The Deal Guy on Youtube? He goes through Costco (and other stores) and points out all the new and returning stuff once a month which is very informative. I've tried a lot of stuff because of that dude...
I haven't had anything notable lately but they changed their flauta brand, or changed the recipe, because the last box we bought was icky.
I also really like the frozen sorbet things that come in a fruit rind, but those aren't new.

Especially with the sandwich thins I just discovered. I will try that when I get my small appliances unpacked. I knew I used them a lot, but now not having any of them, I realize I am almost paralyzed without them. I am used to taking a still warm chicken breast and putting it in the Kitchen Aid with a metal attachment to make shredded chicken super easy. Thank you for the idea. That will be much faster than making stuffed breasts.

I’m sure what I recently discovered must have been around a long time. They are just new to me. I haven’t been in a Costco in person in months so I haven’t seen the fruit sorbet item. I will have to look on Instacart for it.

La Terra Fina Spinach and Artichoke & Parmesan Dip. We love that stuff!!! Mostly we eat it with tortilla chips though. Our Costcos carry several of the St. Michel French bakery products (made in France with European ingredients). My favorite are the Madeleines, while DD and DH love the chocolate/hazelnut filled French Crepes. They are packaged individually and make great snacks. They also carry La Boulangère Pain au Chocolate (made in France) and other La Boulangère products which have all been good. The newest is a salted caramel muffin. The French and Italian cheeses are very good. My favorite is the Comté, but it has been out of stock for a few months now. I hope it reappears!

If you haven’t tried the just bare lightly breaded chicken breast chunks, you should try them. Personally I like them better than the Kirkland but ymmv. They are both good, though. They are a staple here.

We've gotten the ahi tuna there several times recently. It's been delicious cooked on the Blackstone grill. Then I use the leftovers the next night to make tuna tacos.
I also like their shrimp salad but they don't always have it.

We mostly use Costco for big staple items (ex., the big ole thing of TP will last us ~10 months and we also buy cat litter there).
Some things we also consistently get are the 3 lb bag of frozen salmon (we eat it nearly every Sunday for dinner), body wash, shampoo, mouth wash, and toothpaste.
We used to get the bag of Costco brand coffee, but decided to try the instant stuff a few weeks ago and now we prefer it!
I also picked up a big bag of rice and large bag of baking soda recently, in addition to a 6-pack of vinegar. Those should last us a while. We also have a few of the spices they sell since they're so cost effective.
And people wonder how a childless couple can benefit from Costco (and of course, Bess appreciates the boxes! 😺). 😄

I’m so upset that they seem to have discontinued their large jars of Solestado Olive Salad. They were always seasonal and were stocked in April. None this year and when I asked, they said they’d been taken out of their inventory.

I try to make sure there is a stock of baggies of brown rice, quinoa, and wild rice in the freezer to add to dishes rather than having to cook them for each meal. I didn’t know I could freeze rice and quinoa! It freezes quite nicely. I cook up a large batch and then separate it into 2 cup amounts. I lay the bags flat on a cookie sheet until frozen and then I stand them up in a basket that is as wide as the bag. It keeps it organized and makes it easier to tell when I am running low and need to cook more of something. I do the same with many different vegetables too. In fact I spent the afternoon today frying onions, mushrooms, and bell peppers, separately, in preparation to make up more breakfast sandwiches. I will make the egg patties tomorrow and then freeze the remaining vegetables for use later on. I can spend an afternoon sautéing everything and at the end of the day, I only have the one large frying pan to wash. Then as I am making something later in the week, it is so handy to just break off a section of mushrooms or onions to add to a sauce. Having my most often used items in the freezer like that cuts down on meal prep time and dishes too. Making dinner then just requires cooking a protein and making some type of sauce. And if it is a sauce that I know will freeze well, I will make a double batch and freeze the other half for the next time I want that same dinner.

None this year and when I asked, they said they’d been taken out of their inventory. I don’t remember ever seeing the olive salad. I am sad that they are not carrying the raspberry chipotle sauce anymore. I loved that for basting on a Cornish game hen or even just a couple of chicken breasts. I found a couple of recipes and am going to try to make my own one of these days. It was that good. Just the right amount of sweet and heat.

I can highly recommend Bibigo Cooked Sticky Rice. They come in 7.4 ounce packages and make the perfect amount for DH and I to split. 90 seconds in the microwave, lovely sticky rice ready to eat.
If your Costco has any Asian brand of extra firm tofu, freezing tofu makes it a delight to air fry. Freezing changes the texture of it, makes it more meaty for lack of better terms. We eat a lot of it, so finding in there has been wonderful
The Kim-Chi is also really good. Another one we eat a lot of
We also use the Just Bare lightly breaded chicken. We tried the Kirkland brand and I have to say the Just Bare are better. We make Sweet and Sour Chicken to go with the sticky rice. We freeze fresh pineapple, onion, pepper and broccoli. Makes a super quick meal that way
I’ll third the Spinach Artickoke dip. That stuff is so good. I’ll cut up whatever vegetables we have around and eat those with some dip for a meal.
Definitely going to look up the deal guy on YouTube, thank you for mentioning that breetheflea

I tried those puposas and didn’t like them either. They went in the trash. I just won’t eat things that are yucky.
We love the Suki Chicken Tikka Masala. It’s a mild chicken curry that you just have to heat in the microwave. I serve it with the Stonefire mini naan (which freeze great and reheat in the toaster.)
The Kirkland Cheese Tortelloni is delicious. We had it last night with roasted cherry tomatoes and roasted garlic, fresh basil and fresh mozzarella. I freeze it and just cook up whatever the two of us want. In boiling water, it cooks in 2 minutes (or 3 minutes if frozen.)
ETA: I’m a fan of the Bare chicken, too.

We’ve been shopping at Costco for years. Most frequently it’s for bulk staples like TP, paper towels, detergent, etc.
Recent “ new to us” item:
Frozen Pineapple Dole Whip. I honestly don’t remember the last time I ate anything that tasted so terrible I’ve purchased from Costco. It was so bad. Nothing at all like the soft Disney Dole Whip. So disappointing.

Mine has been out for 3 months. Love that stuff.

Can you post the Orange sauce recipe? Not Lexica - but I use good quality chicken light breaded nuggets (Just Bare) tp make Orange Chicken, and my orange sauce is really simple. I use a cup or two of chicken broth (made with stock cubes), I add a pretty good scoop of orange marmalade (Smuckers), some Hoisin sauce and a little soy sauce. You can add chili flakes, or I sometimes add Thai sweet chili sauce to heat it up a bit, I make a corn starch slurry to thicken it. Air fry the nuggets, throw them in the sauce to coat. Top with some green onions chopped and sesame seeds if desired. SO fast and easy!

I love the Just Bare chicken breasts cooked in the air fryer. I chop it up for salads, eat it as is, or make a sandwich with lettuce and tomato on a bun.
My grandson is obsessed with the frozen Orange Chicken. There are 2 packages in a box. He eats it at least once per week with rice.
I also buy tons of fresh fruit and baby spinach.

They had some mini Oreo cupcakes recently that tempted me for weeks and I finally broke down and bought a pack. They were surprisingly good, enough that I ended up buying another pack that also quickly disappeared once I brought them home.
The Kirkland Signature basil pesto is also really good. Their egg bites are pretty good too. I usually just make my own but sometimes it’s nice to have something like that in the freezer ready to go.
ETA: My neighbor at the lake was wanting to try Kirkland’s Prosecco so I bought her a bottle of each kind they had. She said both were good but she really liked the rosé.
