I love watching sport on TV- especially the Olympics and love seeing all the different countries compete. As I sit on my couch I have been musing particularly on the idea of what I like to call “personal embellishment”. The road cyclists go for every aerodynamic advantage- special helmets ,skin tight suits and even debating whether rectangular drink bottles are more aerodynamic than cylindrical ones. Then I watch the sprinters, especially the women , and they have big hair, big bows in the big hair, large earrings, lots of jewellery, huge false eyelashes and extra long fingernails. Some even have chains around their waists . Given that the winning margin can be thousandths of a second surely these things are a disadvantage from an aerodynamic standpoint I concede that it’s important to express your personality and to each their own but…makes me think everytime I see it . Maybe we should go back to the original Greek idea of competing in one’s birthday suit ? 😵💫😜

If the women are fine with wearing what they do when sprinting, then … whatever. I guess they don’t think it slows them down.
But what I wonder … has anyone ever lost their wig or hair pieces? 😂

In the 800m yesterday one woman's braids seemed to be annoying her before the start. She had them very loosely tied back then she seemed to try and secure them more firmly. By the time the race was over they were swinging freely completely unsecured so she'd obviously lost her band or whatever en-route. I would have thought they weren't helpful but I guess they know

I wondered the same about the sprinters!

I've thought the same thing about those sprinters. But since I know zilch about what it takes to be a good sprinter... well I figure they know better than I do.

Maybe we should go back to the original Greek idea of competing in one’s birthday suit ? Some are already just about as close as they can get. But seriously, competing nude sounds miserable to me in most modern sports, even if there were not countless cameras and spectators.

Did they do pole vaulting back in the original birthday-suit days?
