This is a long shot, since Ava just opened, but has anyone (or know anyone) who has gone since they opened in June?
DH and I booked our vacation there for mid September and I am worried since they are still not completely open. When we booked, we were told they would be opened and at full use. As of what I am seeing in reviews, not all the restaurants and bars are open....the beach access isn't ready...issues with cleanliness (!!!!!!).
Ava is part of the Legendary Club we belong to, so we've been to sister-resorts of theirs. We've loved our other stays at Unico 2087, NOBU, and Eden Rock and was expecting something along that lines. But I am reading some online reviews since they've opened...and well, they aren't good (especially considering the cost).
I am wondering if we should transfer our reservation to another of their resorts and save Ava til they are fully opening and running normal.

I wouldn’t risk it and to be honest if you can change it, I would change it.

I wouldn’t risk it and to be honest if you can change it, I would change it. Thats what I am leaning towards. I have been reading the reviews, and they are getting better - BUT - 9 days is a long time to be stuck somewhere that has issues. If I rebook now, I am pretty sure I can do so without a penalty.

You couldnt pay me to go back to Cancun/Playa del Carmen. Couple that fact with the possibility of not having all amenities available and Id change to a different place

I'd change if you can. I am surprised though that they don't have things fully up by now, and they likely should not have opened with that many things still not completed.

Go next year when the kinks have been worked out. Can you transfer to another site w/o a financial penalty?

I have a timeshare in Cancun, going now for about 40 years now. I would wait until it is fully functional. I have heard of too many resorts that open without everything in place.

We dont book clients in a new resort until it's been open for a year. If they insist, we have a waiver that states they understand it is new and not everything will be open/funcional. Especially on Mexican time.
