Do you have a quirk that you know is not the norm?
I have many. Genetic-my pinky fingers are curved inward slightly. The women on my dad's side have this and no one knows why. My mom was accused of breaking my pinkies when I was a baby until my aunts stepped in and showed the doctor that they have crooked pinkies too.
I also used to be able to crack a joint on command when I was a kid.
When I wake up in the morning I have to crack both thumb joints before I do anything else.
I also earned some quirks from a serious car wreck in my 20's (shouldn't be here, much less walking upright). I can tell my back is out if I can't crack my left ankle. Time for a trip to the chiropractor! My neck can only be adjusted left side first or it will completely lock up my neck and I can't turn my head.
Care to share your quirks? This is the random stuff I think of as I'm waking up!

My DD has 2 toes that are webbed. She's long thought of having a dotted line and a pair of scissors just above it, as in 'cut here'

My index fingers and my ring fingers curve in slightly toward the middle fingers. My Dad had the exact same and I can remember, as a child, how he would have us hold our hands up side by side and show everyone the similarity.

After being questioned by doctors when my DS, age 12, was hospitalized and had testing, they had discovered a dent in his skull... On the top to the right of center. They questioned if he had been dropped. Guess what they found? I have the same dent in my skull.
I have tried to impress upon my DGSs that they need to make note of it in case it shows up in one of their future kids.

My ear will randomly get super red. Just one ear. For no apparent reason. Both of my kids have the same thing happen to them, and it started when they were very young. My dad---same thing. His mother--same thing. And we can have a span of time when it happens often, and then goes years between it happening again.
Now there actually is something called red-ear syndrome, and it includes sudden redness of one or both ears, but it also typically includes burning, which none of us have ever experienced. The actual syndrome can also be linked with migraines, which none of us have ever regularly suffered from, either.
Many, many times we don't know our ear is red unless someone points it out.

DH's family is Greek, my heritage is British.
DD's hair/eyes/skin tone is all from the Greek side. DS's hair/eyes/skin tone is all from my maternal side.
FIL, DH and DS all have the same left ear with a unique, quirky divot on the helix.

I never had wisdom teeth. My mom never did either not did one of my boys. I read that a lot of Asian and native peoples donāt get wisdom teeth. And about 35% of the population never get wisdom teeth. But i do have family members that have had their wisdom teeth pulled out.
Oh, and I have dry ear wax, not wet. š

My DD has 2 toes that are webbed. She's long thought of having a dotted line and a pair of scissors just above it, as in 'cut here' I am webbed between my 2nd and 3rd toe on both feet. My sister is too, and so was my grandma. So socks with toes were never an option for me. Every once in awhile when my students need a break we do weird ice breakers. One of them is asking if anyone has a weird quirk they can share. I always have kids that can put both feet behind their head. I had one kid who could stand on one foot and put the other foot behind his head. That was amazing. I share my toes and gross the kids out.

I have a single palmar crease on both hands, but not sure if either of my parents had it. It is a single crease that extends across the palm of the hand, formed by the fusion of the two palmar creases.

But i do have family members that have had their wisdom teeth pulled out. I have never gotten my wisdom teeth, either. However, my brother thought he was never going to get them, and then they became impacted when he was in his 30s and he had to have them removed. And my mother had the same thing happen to her in her late 50s! So I told all of that to my dentist who took x-rays and told me that I only have 2 of the 4 wisdom teeth and they are both under-developed, with one being smaller than the other. But my dad & oldest child both had their wisdom teeth out in their late teens. I don't know where this wisdom teeth situation came from on my mom's side--I guess I'll have to start asking around the cousins. (ETA: Checked with my mom's eldest sibling--they've never seen hide nor hair of any of their wisdom teeth. )

melanell When I went to a new dentist, and they took x-rays, he asked when I got my wisdom teeth taken out. So, I donāt even have any impacted ones ā¦ thank goodness!! My dad has his taken out when I was a kid. I remember him lying in bed, in pain. lol! Poor guy! I imagine it is more painful as an adult.

I love weird body and hereditary facts like this! I donāt know how far back this goes, but my grandma, mom, and I all have weird arms. My arms both bend outward from my elbows if I am not consciously holding them in. I found that if I fold my thumb to my palm and grip it with my fingers, my arm rotates inward and looks like everyone elseās arms. If I donāt do this and I relax them, my arms bend out at the elbow. Picture standing and tucking both elbows into your waist while turning your arm from the elbow down outward. I think it would have been very beneficial back when those huge full skirts were in fashion. My arms would have just naturally hovered above the extremely full skirt so that it didnāt get wrinkled.
I didnāt realize my mom had it also until I realized she was also grasping her thumb. When I mentioned it and told her why I do it, she showed me how her arms do the same thing mine do. And she said my grandmaās did the same. Neither sister has this, and facial feature wise, they look more like my father where my facial features are more like Mom. My son doesnāt have it. I found it very interesting that no one told me to grasp my thumb, I just found that it made my arm hang correctly and felt better. Mom said no one told her to do it either, she said that she also found it felt better. It actually hurts a small amount to let it hang naturally.
Many years ago I was in a small car accident. Some paramedics just happened to be on that same road returning from something and they pulled over to help. I guess the shock of the accident made me forget to grasp my thumbs and my arms were hanging funny. The paramedic gently took one arm in his hands and said he thought I had broken my elbow. I showed him the other arm and explained that it was just a weird family quirk. I donāt think he believed me right away. I immediately corrected it by grasping both thumbs and he just looked confused.
Another voluntary weird thing that Mom, my younger sister, and I all do is to take a mouthful of water or coffee and just hold it, not swallowing it immediately like you would normally do. And I say this is voluntary, but none of us are aware of actually doing it. My sister said she was drinking coffee and then got in the shower. When she was stepping out of the shower she looked in the mirror and realized by how her face was that she had been holding that last mouthful of coffee throughout her entire shower. None of us is aware we are doing it. I had to break myself of the habit because it is weird when I am around others.

I canāt bend my thumbs without my pointer fingers bending at the same time. It makes it very difficult to thumb type on my phone. I use one thumb and one pointer to type.

Lexica I love these strange body quirks too. It's fascinating that they are inherited. I'd love to see your arms and see how grabbing your thumb corrects it. I've caught myself holding a sip of water in my mouth at work, only realizing it when I went to speak. I don't think I would hold it as long as taking a shower though. The only thing that comes to mind for me is my weird pinky toenail. It's very small and thick. It grows in a thick clump rather than flat like my other toes. My oldest DD also has this but my youngest DD doesn't. There's a name for it but googling just now didn't come up with it.

The fourth toe on both of my feet is crooked. Got it from my dad. Passed it to my youngest daughter.
IDK if this counts as a quirk but my nose has a bump in the bone on the left side. Never broke my nose - was just born that way. Also got that from my dad, and passed it to my oldest daughter.

My pinky fingers don't touch my ring fingers, they kind of flare out a bit. I also have one ear slightly lower than the other so my glasses sit a tiny bit crooked. Several of my family members on my dad's side have these.
My 5 year old was in the shower the other day and DH said "boy, your butt crack is crooked!" The top inch or two veers to the left, and I guess he never really paid attention before now. I was like umm, sir. So does yours. He got that from you. hahaha

The Army told me I had no wisdom teeth. At 35 a bottom started to come in and I had to have it removed. At that time they said there were no more. At 47 the other bottom one tried to come in. Again they swore there weren't anymore an said they would absolutely see them if I had top ones.
My teeth are slow I guess. At 17 I was complaining about my teeth as was my 11year old sister. Mom took us both in. They do our X-Rays, and come back out to have us do them again because they think they got switched. Nope, I was getting my 12 year molars, and my sister was getting her wisdom teeth.
I also have a very short torso full of tiny organs. It basically looks like my organs stopped growing around age 10. It's not really a big deal, but my tiny bladder sucks! And at my first appt with my ob/gyn when I was pregnant he told me that there would be no baby coming out of me in the usual way and to understand I would be having a c-section. And he told me he hoped I could make it to 32 weeks gestation because he wasn't sure how big a baby my body had room to grow. I delivered on my due date, so I felt and looked massively overdue. I was 54" around and I'm only 63" tall. I gained 27 pounds and weighed 152 at delivery. Everyday after I hit my 7th month, someone would ask how many I was carrying?š³ I was not a cute pregnant woman.
Oh, and my hands are always warm. People are always shocked when I shake hands with them. When I was pregnant, it got way worse and the construction guys I worked with were kind of creeped out by how warm they were.

I also have one ear slightly lower than the other so my glasses sit a tiny bit crooked. Several of my family members on my dad's side have these. I have this as well, and when I wore wire rims it always took me a few tries to get new glasses adjusted properly. The technicians expected to set down a pair of glasses and have them be flat on the desk, but if they were right for me, then one stem sat on the desk and one hovered in the air. But now I'm in plastic frames, so I just adjust them on my face a million times a day.

My roots to my teeth are very short. So short that whenever I change dentist everyone has to look at my x-rays. My mouth is small too so they usually use children sized tools. My thumbs are short too and they don't really bend back very far, just up and down.
I have a friend who is bizarre!! ALL his insides are on the opposite side. He is like a mirror image of everyone else. So when he says the pledge, he puts his hand the other way. It's pretty crazy.

DD has an extra bone in her foot. Evidently, itās a thing on DHās side of the family, although he doesnāt have it.
I have a bunch of hyper mobile joints and never knew it. I just thought everyone could bend their elbows backwards and move their hands like me.
Also, if food touches the roof of my mouth, I sneeze. It can be annoying with a mouthful of food!

Both my thumbs are stub thumbs or there are many other nicknames like clubbed thumbs. The end bone of each is very short so my thumb nails look very weird. Iāve never found anyone else in my family with the same condition and I had tons of grandparents, great, and great great grands alive until I was in my early twenties. I once met someone with a regular thumb and a stubby one, so I always joked that at least mine match each other. I have met someone thatās married into my husbandās family that has two thumbs.

I can touch my nose with my tongue. Not just the tip but , well, it stretches!
My mom could touch hers as well. My daughter and now my granddaughter both can as well! It was like a rite of passage when my granddaughter could do it. I made a scrapbook page for her album!

My sister and I were born without lower wisdom teeth. They do not exist. My dad had none at all. My mom had all of them.
I have one toe that is noticeably shorter than its counterpart on the opposite foot. I always thought I broke it and it didn't grow right, until I noticed my dad has the same thing same toe!
