Shouldn't SS wear something other than a suit? Why? Looks so out of place, especially with the vests making their white shirts bulge out. Go with modern day attire.

To me, it looks less intimidating than wearing camos or police clothing. They look serious, with their suits and dark sunglasses. I think they would wear regular clothing if they wanted to be more undercover, but I think they want people to know they are SS.

I also imagine that they want to have at least a certain number who stand out and can be seen.
And since they are escorting professionally dressed individuals, I imagine that may be part of the reason the choice was made for suits, along with the desire to be recognized as specifically as SS. (In other words they probably don't want to wear a uniform similar to any existing uniforms.)

Who wants to wear a suit in the baking sun at a rally or walking next to a car? So a suit makes it more official looking? Another stereo type that people must wear, like what Olympic athletes need to wear.

I’m sure they also have plainclothes agents on site as well.

There are plenty of SS in plain clothes. But of course the visible staff dress similar to the person they are guarding.

It is the uniform they wear, just as FBI agents do. I would never want to see someone in camoflage protecting the president. That smacks of petty little dictator.

I remember when Chelsea Clinton was in college. I think the SS tried to blend in on campus and probably didn’t wear suits?

I'm confused with what "modern day" attire is. Do you mean less formal?
A suit is a uniform. I'd like people to choose formal attire more often, as opposed to the current trend of wearing what looks like gym wear or pajamas everywhere.

I think they wear whatever blends in with the setting best, while also not wanting to look blatantly military. So in the professional setting we see presidents in the majority of the time, suits blend in the best.

Go with modern day attire. What do you consider modern day attire is? Sweatpants and a t-shirt?

Were you a man, what would you wear to go to the White House? I'm guessing, a suit?

What would "modern" be? Athletic wear? They need to look professional and they do. Casual wear doesn't feel right for this type of position.

Yeah, something more athletic. Not camouflage. As SS running around with a tie around their neck with a white shirt and dress shoes because it's professional? Professional attire in business has gone to different avenues. Just questioning it as a good suit fit is in the hundreds of dollars and they are running across a tarmac, sweating, and how does one clean the suit? Athletic gear would be more easily cleaned. Does a political figure feel safer if SS is wearing a suit with a tie? Just wondering why? Wear an all black comfortable outfit, with comfortable shoes. Another why oh why, question for me. Just a fluff question.

All the woman SS at dump's shooting were wearing suits that I saw on the footage. Why? Does a suit make people look more important? Guess one of my musings is why does a suit make people seem more important? It's just another uniform.

No, there's a new wave of modern work attire since Covid that's not a suit and involves no ties for business meetings and casual shoes. Open collar with decent pant fit. Does not involve sweatpants and t-shirt, just no ties or suit.

Just a fluff question. From your comments I am guessing that you do not work in a professional setting/environment. A good fitting suit is expensive, and some professionals have a clothing budget in their benefits package. Many years ago when I first started in my professional career there was a benefit for a clothing allowance, $1,500. This was upfront money so that I could purchase the proper attire for the office and business meetings off-site. A deduction of $25.00 was taken off my pay until $750.00 was paid back. The other $750. was considered a taxable benefit and this was at 0% interest. I was given travel luggage from a selection that the Corporation had for business travel, at no charge. There are many different items in benefits packages at the Corporate level. Suits are dry-cleaned.

Does not involve sweatpants and t-shirt, just no ties or suit. Yes, it is called “Business Casual”. But there are still times to wear a suit, with tie. And yes, it does convey a more professional look. Ever hear the term “Power Suit”? I always find it amazing how different a person looks in a suit vs no suit. Our big guy at work, wears a suit. When we have a casual event, like a Company picnic, and he wears casual clothes, he looks so different. Clothes does make the person.

If the protectee is wearing a suit so should the secret service. If the protectee is wearing casual, at least some of the SS should wear casual. Years ago most presidents etc wore suits 24/7, therefore suits were appropriate for the SS. We are supposed to know there are protectors, but some should not be so visible.
Times change.

To me a SS person with a suit looks more official AND professional. There are no casual Fridays in the SS world. Of course there are the plain clothes people, but those are supposed to blend in.
