I had another night of bad insomnia and didn’t even drift off at all, so I am quite punchy and my mind is all over the place this morning, hence the weird question. I apologize in advance.
Do most people put their hairbrush back in the drawer or wherever they keep it without pulling the hair out of it from having just used it and throw the loose hair in the trash?
I watched another show since I couldn’t sleep where they pulled hair from this woman’s hairbrush to run for her DNA. First, I know from watching so many crime shows that they need the root portion of the hair to get the DNA material. And they often show a scene where they take the person’s hairbrush and, using tweezers, pull out a useful hair to run the tests on. And the brush has about 5 or 6 hairs in it.
I guess it just stuck in my mind, but I cannot stand picking up a brush to use that has hair in it so I run a wide-toothed comb through my brush before putting it away every single time. When I cleaned it this morning, I automatically combed the hair out and before I tossed it, out of curiosity, I looked to see if the hair in my brush had roots. It did not. Not a single root. If they were to pull out my brush looking for hair, they would be out of luck.
I even have to get the nail scissors to cut the hair that gets twisted around the ponytail elastic before putting it back in the drawer. My sis never cleaned her pony elastics and it grossed me out. Maybe I am just OCD about it?
Do you habitually clean the hair out of your brush like I do? And does your brush have hair with roots?

I will pull out the hair, but I don't get all of it. There is always some still left. I mean, I'll try to get most of it off, but since I am the only one using it, the few strands don't bother me. I do wash my brush about once a month, so all the hair comes out of it then.
I've never looked for roots. I'll have to check next time.

I don't use a brush very often. I will run my hand over it and grab what comes off, don't worry about the rest.

I clean the old hair out before brushing each morning. I will look, but I doubt there are any roots with DNA evidence on those loose hairs.

Yes, I always clean the hair out of my brush. My Tangle Teaser is very easy to clean, but I also have a little hairbrush cleaner that works great to clean the hair out of bristle brushes.

I seldom use a brush, but I don’t clean it after every use. I probably clean it every few uses. I have a shallow bin in my drawer where I keep it, so it doesn’t touch anything but the bin itself.
I doubt that there are few hair follicles present, as I always finger comb my hair before using a brush. And I’ve usually straightened my hair to some degree or another if I’m brushing it.

There is actually a gadget made to remove the hair from a bristle brush? I’m going to have to Google that, just to see what one looks like. I use a bristle brush, but the wide toothed comb I use to remove the hair is a sturdy thicker comb and I run it through both directions, top to bottom and side to side and it pulls every single hair out of the brush. I have been noticing that there is a lot of hair after brushing it lately and at first I was concerned that I was losing my hair as in something was wrong. But I realized that it is probably because I have been wearing it up in a clip all summer long because it is so hot and I can’t stand it on my neck, especially when I am climbing around working either in the yard or on some part of the house. I will wash my hair and then comb it through while wet and put it in a clip immediately while still wet. With it in the clip, I am only brushing it first thing in the morning and then putting it right back in the clip. When I wear it straight down, I tend to brush it multiple times a day so I don’t see that many hairs in the brush each time, but only doing it once, there is a lot more.

I do it maybe once a week. I have a tool to pull the hair out of all my brushes. I remember reading one time that women used to use their hair from their brushes to basically make a "bump it" to give more volume in their updos!

I just googled the tools available for removing the hair from your brush. That was interesting. I had no idea there were so many different types of gadgets! The most unusual thing was this box of what resembled a loosely woven dryer sheets. You are supposed to push this down through the bristles on your clean unused brush and then when you are finished brushing, pull the sheet up, which removes all of the hair with it. While I guess it would be very thorough since your hair never reaches the base of the brush, I think it would take a while to push it down through all the prongs on the brush before using it each time. This is not for a bristle brush, obviously, but a metal prong type with the little plastic balls on the ends of the prongs. I wouldn’t have the patience.

I brush, I throw brush back in basket, repeat. Pull hair out whenever. Don't really think about it. Hair ties may or may not have hair on them. Another thing I don't think about.

There is actually a gadget made to remove the hair from a bristle brush? The one I use has a small wooden handle with several metal tines that you drag through the hairbrush. It works very well! I put one in my daughter-in-law‘s stocking a few Christmases ago, and she loves it too. She has very long hair.

I rarely use a brush, it's only to blow-dry my hair.
I pull the hair off when needed but I don't obsess about it and don't care if there are a few strands still in it when I put it away.
I'll have to go check if there are any with roots!

I generally pull out the hair from my brush before using it. Pink Conair brush is my go to. Or, whatever pink one I can find.

I shed like a dog, so I pull the hair out pretty much daily. It skeeves me out to see DD’s hairbrush all clogged up with a ton of hair so I clean hers out pretty frequently too. 🤮 What I really hate are all the tiny little fuzzballs that collect at and around the base of the bristles. They are SO hard to get out! We mostly use Wet brushes with the little beads on the ends of the plastic bristles so if you aren’t really careful you’ll accidentally pull off the little beads which isn’t good. I have a dedicated toothbrush for cleaning the fuzzballs but it doesn’t work great, and just washing the brush doesn’t get them out. I need something that works better to get the brushes really clean with less effort.

I don't use a brush, but some people in my house do, as far as I can tell, we have a mix of clean it every time people and clean in once in awhile people. I have no idea about if there are any hairs in their brushes with roots, though. As I young I had a brush and brushing my hair was a nightmare for my parents--and me--because I had long, thick hair. I could believe that there may have been hairs with roots in my brush then, because I used to get such tangles and I felt like they were pulling out half the hair in my head trying to fix it!

No I don't worry about that Hairs that shed when you brush your hair generally won't have roots because at that stage in the hair growth cycle when it just easily falls out, the root has shrivelled up. If you hair catches in the brush then you could pull one out by the root though.
