I just read an article on Cnn about Halloween stuff being out early, and just got back from Goodwill which was in full Halloween mode.
I am not ready for Halloween yet... I have barely started on back-to-school shopping (school starts August 28th) but according to the CNN article, people are buying it like crazy.
What about you? Are you Halloween shopping in August? Do you like or hate the trend?

Oh I'm all for it! Halloween is my favorite holiday and by this time of year, I'm over the heat and humidity. I'm about ready to get the fall/Halloween decorations out but it won't feel like fall here until mid October.

Was at Costco yesterday and the Halloween candy has already made its appearance. There were also some Christmas items! The heat index here is running between 105 and 110, so the last thing I want to think about it either holiday!

I will confess that I just bought some purple and orange lights (like xmas lights but Halloween colors). The reason I did it now when I saw them is that when we get closer to Halloween they'll be gone. I would do the same with any of the large Halloween yard decorations at Costco if we wanted one of those. Those will sell out quickly. However, I do think it's way too early for Halloween candy to be out.

I hate summer. I hate heat and humidity, unless I'm at the beach. That Halloween stuff puts a smile on my face because I know there's light at the end of the tunnel.
We go all out for Christmas decorating, so we don't do Halloween, but it's still fun to see all the stuff.

Hallloween is my favorite holiday. Love seeing the stuff. If Christmas stuff can come out two months before, why can’t Halloween. 😂 Plus, there is no decorating holiday between now and Halloween. I agree though that it is too early for the candy.

I have bought Halloween items as early as July. Not sure why CNN thought that was worthy of a news article because of as far back as I can recall (20+ years) Halloween and autumn items have been out on selves as early as July with people buying decorations when try it shelves because if you don't you loose out.

Plus, there is no decorating holiday between now and Halloween. Maybe not where you live but Canada will celebrate Thanksgiving on Monday October 14th. Thanksgiving stuff is out in the stores and so is Halloween.

I've always heard they put holiday decorations and items out way before time so that crafters can make purchases so they can make product in time for the said holiday.
I doesn't bother me in the least.
One year I noticed "Halloween" candy in July and thought, wow. I would never have the will power to save it that long. I'd probably have to purchase it 2-3 times before Halloween. Uggg! But, I learned, it wasn't necessarily "Halloween" candy, but they put the snack size candies out that early for school snack purcahases.

Big Lots had the Halloween things out in July.
Too early for me, but that is the way the commercial world works.

What about you? Are you Halloween shopping in August? Do you like or hate the trend? erm, a 3' moveable skeleton just might have appeared in my house this week along with some various fake scars and make up, some window clings, some blood covered door decorations, some orange and black hanging decorations and a bat head band and a cat head band. There might have been some bats and pumpkins last week. I love Halloween colours and images.

I think it is ridiculous. I dont know why adults are suddenly obsessed with Halloween. Between that and 8 million different trick or treat/trunk or treat events, Halloween is completely played out before Oct 31.
That being said, people can do what they want on whatever holidays they want.

I would do the same with any of the large Halloween yard decorations at Costco if we wanted one of those. Those will sell out quickly. The cool stuff is already sold out! Instagram is full of Halloween decor and DIY. Pottery Barn stuff is super cute, but yikes, super expensive. So you see a lot of 'dupes' out there, and that stuff is GONE. Walmart has some cute terracotta pumpkins that people paint to mimic the PB ones that cost 4 or 5 times the WM ones. The WM ones were sold out in early August. I love the bigger variety in the snack size candies! I always keep a bucket at my house and at the shop. During harvest it just makes the day go better to grab a little candy bar when you are making a pit stop! LOL My crew expects it now! Mini candy bars and mini cans of pop always fully stocked in all the fridges across the farm. One mini fridge is full of vet med and candy bars. LOL

Speaking of Costco, the giant 6-7’ tall half skeleton yard decorations that I saw there about a month ago literally sold out in a week. I’m not ready for summer to be over. I can’t believe there are only two weeks left before school starts. I like fall well enough, but I really, really, REALLY hate getting up at 6 am to help get my night owl kid out the door on time for school. I’m so thankful that it’s only for one more year, because after that the district is flipping the start times so the high school kids will start later. THANK GOD. I don’t know if I could handle four more years of that nonsense!

If it's at Costco and I want it, I need to buy it when I first see it. I wanted a Mickey Halloween treat container, put it off for the next trip and they were gone. Some lady loaded up 5 of the Jack Skellington ones as I talked myself out of getting Mickey.
A long snake taper holder may have fallen into my cart at Marshalls, but Marshalls is a hazard for me because it's next to my primary grocery store.
I'm also done with 100 degree days which are not the norm where I live or they weren't the norm. I'm ready to put on a hoodie, walk outside, feel a crisp autumn breeze and make soups & stews. I'm also ready for scary movie season, so I guess, bring on Halloween!

I don't care one way or another about the trend, but I'm not buying anything yet, either. The rule at our house is no Halloween decor until Oct. 1st. (Or if Oct. 1st is a Monday or Tuesday, then I let them put it up over the weekend, even though that's still Sept.

I don't usually decorate for Halloween, but when my boys were in school, I would always decorate for fall on their first day of school. So no pumpkins but bring out the warm and cozy throws, pillows, etc.

Thanks for the reminder to pull out my Halloween stuff so I can go through it and get rid of stuff for the thrift store. Last year I found quite of bit of forgotten Christmas stuff in the garage and had to save it all until I can donate it this year.

I’m already checking websites for Christmas stuff, without any luck yet. Waiting impatiently. 🥴
I don’t do Halloween-specific decor, but my fall stuff like pumpkins and mums will be coming out within the next few weeks.

What about you? Are you Halloween shopping in August? Do you like or hate the trend? I don't buy Halloween decor. There's still some in the basement, but I don't usually put any up anyway. I do buy costumes for the kids. My two youngest are getting to the age when they might stop wanting to TOT, so I'm buying for them until they say stop. I don't love that every holiday is crammed down our throats months in advance, but I just try to ignore it. I, too, still need to back to school shop. We're having difficulty buying in person, but how can you choose uniform pants and uniform shoes without trying on first?! Also, my local Giant grocery store had a stand alone display with hallmark Christmas ornaments, cards, and wrap near their greeting cards. Too, too early for me!

I don't like Halloween, never have. It's ridiculous that Halloween and Christmas things are out in July and August. That Back to School supplies are out in June before the END of school! Snowsuits in Costco in the summer. Sometimes we hadn't been on summer vacation yet or a kid wrecked their sandals and it's so hard to replace them in August. And we have a super short summer, it would annoy me even more if I was further south where it's still 1000°

I’m changing out my mantle to fall decor this weekend. It’s just my self and my DH, so no one else will see it anyway.
As for the early stocking of seasonal items, it’s a good business practice, based on competition and consumer buying trends.
When I met my now DH, he was working at a small local chain of card/candy/gift/camera stores. He eventually became a store manager. He worked there for about the first 10 years of our marriage.
Inventory was ordered for the seasonal card/gift/candy/snack food as much as a year in advance. Shipments would arrive from the distributors 4/5/6 months prior to the date of the holiday. It was extremely important to rotate the displays and get the seasonal items out in a timely manner. There really is a very small window of time when customers are enthusiastic and willing to pay full price. You can’t let the competition get ahead of you.
After a certain point, as the holiday/ season approaches, it becomes necessary to start offering discounts. For a small chain of stores being able to sell full retail was extremely important for profitability. After the season, perishable items have to be pushed out at a steep discount, sometimes at cost or at a loss. It’s not a sustainable business model to have very much inventory left to put into storage.

I love Halloween! I've already been to Michaels, Joann, Home Goods, T.J. Max, Marshall's, Bath & Body Works, Spirit Halloween, etc. I've taken a lot of photos of stuff I want but I haven't bought anything yet. Things are so expensive so I'm trying to figure out what are musts. I want a full size skeleton to climb over my front fence (condo patio) and they are $100 at Joann, and 40% off, so $60. Spirit Halloween had them for $50. That still seems like a lot so I'm hoping to find them even cheaper but I might just break down and buy one now.
Michaels had a couple things I really want but they weren't on sale at the moment. And Home Goods has a Martha Stewart candlestick that is calling my name. Choices, choices...
So yeah, I love Halloween in August.
