I was watching the men's head to head competition. I know nothing about break dancing, but I found it entertaining. They do some crazy, athletic moves. All of the competitors were called by their "handles", not numbers. Two American men are still in.
I do wonder how they decide what sports get into the Olympics.

Watching the quarterfinals and I love the mad respect these dancers have for each other. The camaraderie at the Olympics is one of the things I love best about the event.

It was urmm different not sure it should have been included in the games tho . It won't be included in the next games which is a good thing tbh you mean the winter games, or the next summer games? I watched some, it didnt really interest me. Neither does skateboarding, honestly, but I have watched a lot of surfing and that was interesting. My kids were wondering why bowling wasn't included. Apparently, people don't want to watch that? Also my DD said that according to google, it is geared towards right handed people, so the floor oil doesn't get distributed well? and that it also depends on right or left lanes. To me, that can't be any worse than judging surfing, it's not like all waves are the same! It’s not coming back for the summer games. www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/tv/a61838171/will-there-be-breaking-2028-los-angeles-olympics/

We have no interest in sports but do enjoy dance. So I watched a clip last night to see what this was about. I was impressed with the strength and skill required to do some of the moves. Did the dancers know what the music would be? Was there routine prepared or did they just 'feel the music' as the announcer kept saying? I would far rather watch someone dance - in any form - than watch any kind of race or simple diving competition. I can not imagine training your whole life to try to be 1/2 second faster than someone else. During the competition they said that the dancers don’t know what the music will be. They are supposed to free flow but sometimes the other dancer would be acting like they were taking notes and that was indicating that they thought the other person was dancing from a script that they made ahead of time. They also aren’t supposed to do a move more than once. littlemama you can watch all of the sports on demand on the peacock app. My kids said that baseball was taken out due to it being during the MLB season, but I don’t know if that is true or not. That’s nice that it will be back in 2028. We are also looking forward to flag football in 2028. There are some other sports that I’m not sure why they are still in the Olympics, like fencing or shooting, but we just skip those. I’m not that impressed with rock climbing, either, in terms of watching it anyway. I also don’t get the appeal of synchronized swimming and see that as a type of dance. But people aren’t making a big deal of that vs not including other types of dance. I cannot find any of it on the peacock app, which is annoying because the Internet is talking about Raygun's hilarious performance but all I can find are like 2 sec clips. No full routine.

I’ve been really enjoying the breaking at the Olympics - much to my own astonishment (being 70, I’m hardly their “target audience”). The strength and athleticism of the competitors is amazing, especially the power moves and freezes (good heavens, it seems I’m learning a whole new language!). Did you see the Austalian woman who has been all over TikTok? She was...something. Eep. Just watched a clip of her dance. Yikes…someone said it was like when your kid says “mom, look what I can do!” 😄

I turned in and watched a little. I was a big fan of the TV show America”s Best Dance Crew. I was not overly impressed by the Olympics. It made me realize how crazy talented the dancers on ABDC were. Jabbawockeez and Quest Crew included some the best B-Boy style dancers I’ve even seen.

I found it on the TV app, I had been looking on my phone app and it wasn't there (wasn't searchable). I just spent the last however long watching these, lolol @ the Australian woman. She looked stiff and not very athletic compared to all the others. I think her track suit made her look like someone's drunk mom, literally reminded me of the SNL mom jeans skit. I could definitely see Kristen Wiig or Amy Poehler performing those routines as a skit. Most of the performers were really great though, very athletic. Syssy and Nicka are amazing though I'm sure Nicka will be told to leave off the durag/doo-rag next time. It looked very, um, trying too hard to be hip hop.

I know she tried really hard and takes her sport seriously, but someone should have been more open with her before getting to this point, IMO. On one video a guy started it with “now we have Nicka from the Marcy projects of Lithuania” I assume referring to the Du rag.

[br I’m not being rude about it. I’m just saying that if breakdancing is considered a sport, then all dancing should be, which means adding an event for every type of dance. If they want to do that, by all means, but seems a little rude to me to only add breaking.🤷🏻♀️ If I were a dancer, I’d be pissed that my type was not considered a sport. Oh yeah...I was just teasing you over the comment "I don't consider dancing a sport." One of my kids played football and the other danced (mostly ballet) and this was an ongoing argument -- um, I mean discussion -- in this house. omg 🤣

My question about the break dancing comes from the schedule that I've been following on the "olympics.com" site.. All the sports say either "men" or "women" or a few "mixed", but break dancing says "boys". Are these all actual boys? not adult men? It’s because in braking/breakdancing they call themselves B-boys or B-Girls. So, their names are B-Girl 671 or B-girl Nicka.

Ok, I just started watching the men’s qualification round and have to say so far it is already much better than the women’s.

The thing is, she is at the Olympics performing... even if we deem she's doing it badly. For the rest of her life, she can say "I was an Olympian." Kinda makes me want to find an obscure sport and get my 63-year-old self some bragging rights too. Lol.

Did you see the Austalian woman who has been all over TikTok? She was...something. I dislike the way the major network shows the Olympics here. It is all focused on a narrow band of the events- especially in Prime Time, so we have not been able to see any of the breaking. I think mens is being shown this morning, so we will try to catch that. When I watch the Olympics, I want to see sports that I dont normally see- I dont want to watch basketball, I dont need to see every minute of gymnastics, I dont need to see every running race in track- show me archery, show me that one in the winter that involves skiing and shooting (biathalon?), show me breakdancing, synchronized swim, water polo, hammer throw, etc. And the amount of time the commentators spoke was annoying. I really am disappointed by the coverage of local athletes by my local news. We’d turn something on and they’d mention an athlete from here and we’d never heard of them. I missed the break dancing competitions.

I'd rather see breakdancing than dressage ... actually, I wouldn't mind dressage if the horses did it alone without riders, since they're the real athletes in those 'partnerships'! I have to say that I'm not a big fan of any event where there are judges involved--so much room for error and/or bias, I like it better when things are more cut and dried with a finish line or a number of goals/runs/baskets/points scored.

I find it a weird addition. The Olympics are for sports. I don’t consider dancing a sport. We have So you think you can Dance and America’s Got Talent for those types of things. I feel like if breaking (I hate it being called that) is now considered a sport, then they need to include ballet and cheerleading. Cheerleading is definitely a physical, athletic event. Every ballet dancer is now shaking their head at you. 😄 My dd had several sweatshirts over the years with this theme: exactly. All dancers and dance moms are shaking their head at that comment.

I didn’t watch the break dancing, but I know that B-girls from Japan are pretty good. I’ve seen other videos of Japanese B-girls dancing off against other groups. I want to see Raygun but I can’t find a full video of her routine. Maybe I’ll see if NBCOlympics still has coverage available.
A new sport for 2028 is an American Ninja like event. That should be fun to watch! Baseball is back but they don’t know if big name players will be allowed to play, or if the teams will allow big names to play because of injury potential. Softball will be played in Oklahoma City.
Someone mentioned left handed bowlers above. They actually have an advantage because less people use their side of the lane and the oil doesn’t dry out as fast as the right side of the lane. The lane conditions for lefty’s doesn’t change as much.

I watched part of the B-Girl's break dancing today. So, watching Raygun's entire performance, and not just the little clips here and there, it didn't seem that bad. But she was definitely out of her element. All the other dancers were doing much more complicated moves, while Raygun pretty much just stayed on the floor. I am sorry, but really Australia, you did not have a better dancer than that?? She was the Australian champ??

I am Australian thus the original “I just can’t” comment re break dancing - my taxes sent her to the Olympics when many other athletes didn’t quite make it/didn’t get funding etc 2. Allegedly the head of the competition to gain an Olympic spot is run… by her husband 3. Adding fuel to the fire our government allegedly gave her a $100,000 grant to study break dancing. Again with the “my taxes paid and funded that” comment On the flip side my dh was crying with laughter, my parents loved it and my kids have done more exercise in the past few days than they have in weeks prior emulating the moves so it was definitely a way to bring attention to a smaller, niche sport?!?
