Hi! I just ordered a Paperwhite for a dear friend who has been having a challenging couple of years. It comes with a free 3 month sub to Kindle Unlimited... but there was no option for making that FOR HER. I got an email saying that my KU would be free for the next three months and then I'd go back to paying the monthly fee.
Have you ever successfully been able to transfer the KU to someone else?

I haven’t purchased a kindle for someone else so I have no advice other than to contact the appropriate department and ask how it is done. There must be a way to gift an account to someone.
My googling just gave me this:
To buy Kindle books for others, first go to the Kindle eBook's product detail page on Amazon. Then, in the Buy for others box , select the quantity you want to purchase. Next, select the Buy for others button, and then enter the details for your gift recipients. You can specify recipient email addresses on the checkout page to send each recipient an email with the link to redeem the eBook.
Since it is too late for that, I think you will need to contact the company.

I tried to get a phone number, but when I put in that I wanted help with a Paperwhite gift purchase, it checked my purchase history and told me that I didn’t have one. Ugh.
Have you given her the reader yet? If not, I think you need to get it set up with her email and information, and at her house to connect to her Wi-Fi service. That should give her the account benefits.
I think I found it!
Visit the Amazon Customer Service site to find answers to common problems, use online chat, or call customer service phone number at 1-888-280-4331

Thanks! How on earth does one contact a human at Amazon??? Google "Amazon online chat" and a direct link will come up. I never call on the phone because I know I'll get some overseas bad phone connection where I can't understand half of what they're saying to me. The online chat always works.

I would think that when she re-registers the Kindle to her Amazon account, the Unlimited would follow it. But maybe not.

Thanks, friends! I appreciate you!
It will be delivered to her on Wed. I'm hoping that you're right, @merge. I'll wait until after she's done her set up to look into this further.
