I'm really sad that the Olympics have come to their end. I watched so many of the events from the standard gymnastics to weight lifting, handball and breaking and now it's time for the closing.
I love that it's more casual and classic than the opening. Such joy and camaraderie.
Anyone else watching?

I am. I got in about 20 minutes ago so missed the very start.
It’s been a fabulous games. I’ve loved every contest I’ve watched.

I have to say I am distinctly underwhelmed. The best part I saw was the Hollywood sign with the rings on it.

I am, and wondering what the US Christians are going to get bent out of shape over now. Probably the gold shiny guy

I’ll watch the prime time replay tonight. The live showing was not good for us west coast people who go out at lunchtime. 😂 I want to see how they hand off the games to LA.

You mean the Olympic Rings Tom Cruise attached to the Hollywood sign? 😀
What can’t that man do?
Repelled from the roof of the venue, got the Olympic Flag from Simone, hopped on a motorcycle, drove through the streets of Paris with the flag waving behind him, hopped on a plane, skydived down to the Hollywood Sign, put up the Olympic Rings before handing off the flag to the bicycle guy. All within the matter of minutes. What a guy!

Other than watching the athletes walk in, I was pretty bored. I love the Olympic events but this closing just didn't do it for me. ETA: We still have over an hour to watch.

I enjoyed the Closing Ceremony too, a nice mixture of casual and formal I thought. I do think some of the music bits go on for too long (same with the Opening Ceremony) but that’s probably showing my age 😂. Nice to have the handover to the Paralympics.

Watched about half of it. I tuned in when President of Olympic committee was making a speech. Stayed until Billy Eilsh singing. Tom Cruise bit= meh I am not a Tom Cruise fan
Watched too much of the Olympics and am glad it is over. However I will tune in and watch the para-Olympics. All the skills and talents fascinate me.

Wouldn't it be great if an Olympian sang it, as my DD asked is she going to a funeral

Watching now. About 30 minutes left. I think I only needed to watch the last hour. 😂 I thought H.E.R. sang the national anthem beautifully. Loved seeing the run through LA and the beach concert was good. I am a big fan of Billie Eilish. I wonder how much they had to pay the city to clear the beach of people. 😂
I also love to see the athletes walk in. Did they show the end of the men’s marathon? In the past, the men running in usually starts the closing ceremony. I tuned in about a half hour late so I am just wondering if I missed it.
Ok, back to the last 20 minutes …

The men’s marathon was on Saturday. The women raced earlier in the day Sunday, and the winners were awarded their medals during the closing ceremony. We watched the live version, that aired midday, not prime time so I don’t know if they edited it out of the prime time version.

Yes, the women's marathon winners were awarded their medals at the closing ceremony. It was notable that the winner wore a hijab. BBC Over the three years since France's controversial "Islamist separatism" law was passed, it has gradually permeated aspects of French society, including competitive sports. The rule applies not only to players but also to coaches and referees - officially excluding anyone wearing a sports hijab from the competitive space altogether. This has been the case for years at all levels under the French Football Federation (FFF), despite Fifa lifting its religious headgear global ban a decade ago. Basketball's world governing body Fiba also lifted its ban in 2017. Both international rule changes were a breakthrough after years of campaigning led by Muslim sportswomen. But as the Paris Olympics make history as the first to achieve numerical gender parity on the field of play, Muslim French women and girls continue to face barriers on their home turf - which campaigners like Amnesty International say is a "violation of their human rights" with a "devastating impact". "It's a catastrophe for French sport - for women's sport," says Helene Ba, who after experiencing a similarly traumatic experience to Sylla at grassroots level co-founded Basket Pour Toutes (Basketball For All). www.bbc.co.uk/sport/basketball/articles/c4ng5k15pzyo

Watched on and off. Not too exciting but did like HER. Didn’t know who she was but she sang beautifully. Not a Tom Cruise fan but makes sense for him to be included since it’s going to be in LA and I get the Hollywood theme.

I was so irritated by the prime time replay. They had commercials through the only part I wanted to see (Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend singing with Phoenix.) Incredibly frustrating for me.

At the risk of sounding intellectually undemanding, I didn’t care for yesterday’s interpretive performance and I seldom do at these Olympic opening/closing ceremonies.

I didn't love it - and honestly the rest of my family left pretty early on bored. It really dragged especially the whole gold man bit. I ended up with it mostly playing in the background and multitasking. Don't love Tom Cruise, but eh I at least knew what was going on. We enjoyed the show Paris put on and can't wait for LA. We are actually thinking of getting tickets. Not sure how crazy that process would be, but I'd love to see some of the swimming live!

We are actually thinking of getting tickets. Not sure how crazy that process would be, but I'd love to see some of the swimming live! For the popular events in 1984 it was a lottery system. We tried for all of the women’s gymnastic events and only got the team finals. We were excited to get something! I rather there be a lottery instead of having to wait until a certain time and date to try to get tickets.

The fact that they used Tom Cruise is disgusting. The fact that he is revered and not shamed for belonging to that brutal cult is mind boggling. It also shows that Karen Bass is still deep in the pocket of Scientology.

None of my pearl clutchers have commented on the closing ceremonies. Now mind you, I have finally hidden a lot of those so I don't have to see it. I am ashamed to be an American at times. Our ignorance.

I was pretty bored with the whole thing and every time I looked at the TV I asked myself, "What the heck am I watching?!" It was odd, but maybe if I had paid more attention it would have been better. But maybe not...

Tom Cruise…. ”To all the athletes, I understand and respect your passion, your dedication, your work ethic, to push yourself to the highest level of skill. Congratulations to each of you for what you have achieved, you are an inspiration to all. To the beautiful city of Paris, thank you for hosting this extraordinary event. It has been a privilege to be a part of this iconic sporting tradition. I am grateful to have been a part of this Olympic moment. I look forward to @la28” x.com/tomcruise/status/1823109223972225380?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nwI have to admit I didn’t think he was actually at the Hollywood Sign once rings were attached, but when you look at the pictures he’s there.

I watched it and for the most part enjoyed it, but I left the room to do something and missed the whole bit with Tom Cruise...luckily because that would have ruined it for me.
However once the LA section started, I was horrified to realize that if the American people screw up this election again then Trump will be president during the next Olympics and his stupid smug face will be everywhere. I hope the majority of your country has enough sense not to let that happen, can you imagine what a shit show that will be, him hosting the world? I get the shivers just thinking about it. Those poor athletes will be completely overshadowed by whatever delusional claim he makes or drama he creates on any given day.

I watched but was kind of bored. Now to quickly watch a few more replays before they disappear I can’t believe they go away tomorrow or the next day .
