Republicans and right wing media are spreading all kinds of falsehoods about immigration. Clearly they think this is an issue they can win on and they're pulling out all of the stops and lying to support their narrative.

FACT: Vice President Harris had no unilateral authority to "shut the border down" in any capacity.
FACT: Neither the White House, President Biden, nor Vice President Harris ever designated her as the "border czar." This label was coined by mostly Republicans and amplified by the media.
FACT: Harris’s actual role mainly centered around diplomatic efforts with Northern Triangle countries and Mexico to address the root causes of migration, such as economic instability, violence, and crime, aiming to reduce the flow of immigrants at the source. She also worked with corporations to invest in this nation in an effort to turn around those countries.

Since the Presidential Proclamation and Interim Final Rule went into effect on June 5, DHS has removed or returned more than 70,000 individuals to more than 170 countries, including by operating more than 150 international repatriation flights.* Total removals and returns over the past year exceed removals and returns in any fiscal year since 2010 and a majority of all southwest border encounters during the past three fiscal years resulted in a removal, return, or expulsion.
