The new Intuit Dome in LA opened last night, with Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga performing. I would have loved to have seen them. This is not where I am old. Here is where I am old ... you must have a smart phone to enter the arena, with the Intuit Dome app on it, which contains your ticket. You scan the phone as you enter and there is an optional facial recognition. Everyone must have their own account. If you are under 13, you can set up something like a family type account. If you don't have a smart phone, you go to a different entrance and they'll help you. The venue is also cash less. You upload your payment method to the app, and then use the app to pay for things. Your parking pass is also on this app. And of course, on opening night, there was a computer glitch and they had to inspect all digital tickets by hand. The show was supposed to start at 8PM but didn't start until 10PM because there were lines of people outside still trying to get in at 8PM. I hate this total dependence on technology. There are people out there who don't have a smart phone for one reason or another. And look what happens when the computer goes down. OK, I am old!

That sounds miserable. Gotta love tech until it fails.

I hear ya. I understand why things are "paperless" but damn it I like paper tickets. Can I add onto your upset that I hate QR codes for menus? DESPISE.

QR codes for ordering and menus never load on my phone so I march my butt up to the counter and make them take my order there instead - but at least at most places they have that option!
The sheer number of times I have been places and the reception is patchy but I’ve been able to waltz to the front with my old school printed ticket (sometimes from a screen shot!), skip the queue and get straight in is mind boggling. Then I go to the merch stand, pull out my old school card and tap to pay while everyone is trying once again to get their card to load on their phones.
Where possible I refuse to rely on technology when 7374838 other people will be using it at the same time at the same location ie all stadiums and arenas as my phone just won’t work! Or at the very least I screen shot my ticket so I’m not relying on it loading inside the venue.
I know they want to go online for everything so they can charge fees for every single letter you type and so they don’t have to worry about staff counting or carrying or looking after cash but they need to fix wifi etc in these facilities first or have a booster inside or a tower on the roof or something - it makes going out a miserable experience so I fully sympathise with op.
Lastly, I bet in the terms and conditions of the app they’ll have a clause like the Disney thread where downloading the app means you can never sue the company no matter what happens to you inside the venue ie falls, slips, food poisoning etc.

I don't mind the app to enter but I hate cashless venues. I like budgeting a certain amount for an event and it allows me to stick to that budget plus no fees when I pay cash though I'm sure at some point I'll be charged a fee to pay with cash.
As mentioned, hope the reception is good with 50k some odd people trying to use the internet at the same time.

Here is a tip for your teens who will be attending cashless events - like High School sporting events at the Xcel Center. Venmo has a teen cash card that is really easy to use. I can Venmo my grandson $20 and it goes right to his cash card. There is no credit involved. He has to have cash loaded on it. It works great!
I'm old, too. I prefer a paper ticket to having a code in my phone.

You can add me to the ‘I hate paperless tickets’ list too. I had my first encounter with this new way last year when I bought tickets to an NFL game. I had ordered my tickets in July for an Oct game. When I was notified they were finally available I did what I had always done, went to my desktop to print them. Well that screwed up the mobile app and it took over an hour on the phone to get it straightened out. Once I could finally access them on my phone I left the app open until game day for fear I would lose them again. I didn’t breathe until we walked through the gate on game day and it took longer to open each of those 5 tickets then it would have been to scan paper tickets. I want the option to use the app or print.
I'm also not thrilled about places going cashless (I prefer using cash) but as long as I can use a credit card versus an app I can live with it.

There is one venue we go to a couple of times a year that encourages paperless tickets. I download the ticket to my phone. However, I always have a printed copy with me. We drive 1 1/2 hours to get there. I'm not going to show up and have a phone glitch and be unable to get in.

Can't you just screen shot the ticket and scan that? I haven't ever been to a venue or flown on a plane where that didn't work. As far as cashless venues, I haven't carried cash since before 2020. I prefer to never have any cash on me so no one can steal it, I don't drop it, AND who knows how much I want to spend so I don't like cash limits. Anyplace that won't take cards won't get my money.

But if you lose your debit or credit card it can be tapped until you cancel it. Just as easy to use as cash. Or does the US not have tap yet? I like to print my plane tickets so I don't have to have my phone put. I do download/screenshot my ticket in case I were to lose the paper copy.

I generally don’t mind but did have a situation when I was going into a stadium for Taylor Swift last year and, after waiting in a pretty long line, my ticket would not scan (it showed on my phone but the scanner would not read it), and I had to go to the box office for help. Tech is great but the tech has to work!

They'd have to steal that too, but at least I could get those charges reversed, unlike cash. And actually my debit card doesn't tap, only my CC do.

Definitely not a fan of "scan in your phone" tickets. I had a big problem the only time I tried this. Got to the game and then --I can't remember what, but I was having a total meltdown because the damn ticket would not load or We had to go into the ticket office and get in line for people having trouble. Give me a damn printed ticket! When fly, I print the ticket/boarding pass from home because I the last thing I want is being held at the gate because the documents won't load.

the immediate surround area is kind of seedy so i can see why being cashless is a good thing. It keeps the venue from being robbed, but not the individual people. People still carry cash and expensive items on them. I for sure wouldn't hang around in the parking lot after an event, and I wouldn't want to park offsite in that area.
