We have to carry walkie talkies all day now. In the classroom it is fine because I can just leave it on my desk, but for recess and periodic lunch duties and when walking through the school we are supposed to have it with us. The problem is that none of my clothes pockets hold it well. The clip is super finicky and it is always falling to the ground. Do any of you deal with this? What do you do? Is there some sort of comfortable way to keep it on you? I have seen the holster holders, but that looks terribly annoying and uncomfortable to wear. I just really need it for when I am not in my room. I understand I can just hold it, but there are many times I am holding hands and tying shoes, etc. And at morning recess I am often holding a coffee cup. Any suggestions?

I don't personally have to carry one, but some of the teachers in my building that do just clip it to their ID/key lanyard that's around their neck. I guess it depends on how large yours are and if you are required to wear an ID lanyard. They got a few new walkie talkies last year and they're smaller than the old ones.

I am a substitute (and former long time classroom junior high teacher) and no school I go to has such a thing ... is this 1990? What is the purpose ... so that they don't have to telephone your room? To contact you when you are on supervision? How often is that necessary? More micromanaging ... another reason for my early retirement!

If youāre out on the playground and something happens to a kid you can radio the office. If the office needs a kid from your class they can radio you. If the internet goes down (our phones work across the internet) they can still contact you.
Mine lives on my desk. There are 3 classrooms at my site so yeah. When I take my kids to the track for PE, I clip it in the small of my back on my pants.

More micromanaging ... another reason for my early retirement! I am also a sub and the school I sub at has these too. It is so teachers can be found when they are with their class/on duty both for safety and practicality. - alerting the office you are sending a kid their way - contacting the teacher/class/office when they not in their classroom (on the playground, parking duty, library, science classroom, etc) - calling for extra help when you don't have access to a phone (inside our buildings are a dead zone for cell phones and a walkie talkie is faster than a phone call) Teachers are not expected to have them on when they are on their own time, in their classroom or on planning time. Just when they are supervising students outside of the classroom.

If there is an unknown person on campus, if we need to send a child inside for an ice pack, a child is on the loose (we have at least 3 kids in the school who are runners), if we need support with a child, if we need coverage so we can use the restroom, we use them for drills to communicate, we can use them to call the custodian. They are incredibly handy and get used a lot. I don't feel they are tool of micromanagement at all. The cafeteria workers use it everyday to let us know to send our class in for lunch as we stagger our entry so the hot lunch lines aren't out in the hall.

It definitely lives on my desk when I'm in my classroom, but we have to watch our kids during our non-lunch recesses. And We rotate lunch duty, so I do have to hold it a fair amount each day.

A cross body type strap might be more comfortable then hanging one from the ID lanyard around your neck!

I work in higher ed and am on the emergency response team so I am required to carry a walkie talkie. I just carry it in my hand, pain in the neck. Can't tell you how many times I have left it in the bathroom.

They clip the walkie on the pack but with the walkie inside (pack unzipped), so if it falls off it won't fall to the ground.

Obviously it doesn't feel weird to you, but I think having it tucked into my pants in the back would feel weird. It would be touching my skin and would constantly be freaking me out. Ours have pretty thick antennas.

This one is only $18.99 from Amazon.
I could just picture you out on the playground sporting this across your chest. lol

š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ That is like the walkie talkie equivalent of a pocket protector! I would lose the very few cool points I already have if I sported that! That is hilarious thank you for sharing.

Used to carry walkie-talkies a lot while the family was out doing activities before cellphones became ubiquitous, and I'll happily recommend a wrist strap. It's less annoying than having a heavy weight stuck around your neck, lets you hold it in your hand most of the time, but also can be dropped if hands are suddenly needed and easily removed if you want to leave it on a desk.

Depending on the size of the walkie-talkie Vera Bradleyās got a great sale going on right now and they have a Crossbody little purse and it might fit in. It might be more comfortable. Check out their outlet online

I work in special ed and we all carry one. Most of us clip it to back or side pockets or the top of boots. I'm wondering if you had a different clip, would that work better? I don't know if they make different clips, but ours seem too work pretty well.

I guess I don't need to worry about looking cool when I am at school, do I? š My daughters use the crossbody bags that look like fanny packs as their main purses. They each have them from Lululemon and the younger one just got one from American Eagle. They would reassure that these bags are cool. eta - I read that wrong. I was thinking crossbody bag and not strap. Iām assuming these walkie-talkies are smallish. The ones they used at my school were kind of clunky and a strap wouldnāt have worked. I never had to carry one but some of my colleagues did.

I just got assigned one this year. I work in a room with 2-3 other teachers, so I've never needed one. I don't have any duties and when I am out of the room with kids, I am in their classrooms.

I don't know if they make different clips, but ours seem too work pretty well. I wear a lot of dresses and skirts with longish tops. No pockets or the tops cover them to the extent that it is annoying to have a walkie talkie at the waist otherwise I could just clip it to my waist band on the skirts or pants. But when I wear dresses there is nothing to clip it too. I do have one or two skirts with biggish pockets and I can tuck the big part of the walkie in it, but the rest of my clothes I can't and the walkie talkie is always falling out. Other teachers seem to have pants better equipped for the walkie talkie or just wear it clipped to their necklace lanyard. I don't know if I could get a better clip. Not sure where I would even look.

Our female admin team wear it in a purse type thing. We don't have any behavior students, so they haven't experienced the need for breakaway items.

When I am on lunch or playground duty, I wear a little crossbody purse. It has three zipper pockets. In the front I keep my lanyard with keys and fob. The middle pocket holds my phone, and the back holds spork packets, bandaids, and a pair of kid scissors that I use to open stubborn packaging at lunch. On the outside, I have a BBW pocket bac on a holder. Whew! And now we are adding a walkie talkie. Iām hoping it will attach to the purse somehow. If not, Iāll also be on the hunt for something new. Hereās the purse I use: WITERY Waterproof Nylon Cute Crossbody Cell Phone Purse Smartphone Wallet Bag for Women a.co/d/3yl5BFf
