My dad was selected for a Veterans Honor Flight to DC this month. I'm so very excited for him. We want to welcome him home with a bundle of cards thanking him for his service in the US Army. Is there any chance you can drop a note, card, or letter in the mail in the next day or two for him to thank him for his service in the US Army and welcome him home? They must arrive by the 26th in Columbus. If you know any teachers, church groups, or other groups that may want to help brighten some veterans day, please share if you can. If you have a group I would imagine you can send them to the flight in general...there will be 100 veterans on his trip and being welcomed home when their plane lands. I don't want any of them to go home empty handed ❤️🤍💙 My dad's information: RODNEY RHYMER c/o Honor Flight Columbus Mission #134 P.O. Box 20133 Columbus, Ohio 43220

That is so cool! When I was at BWI, there was an honor flight coming in at our gate and everyone lined up and clapped them off of the plane. It was very moving.

I'm going to fly in to meet him at the airport for some red, white, and blue, hoorahING for sure. I'm so thrilled he gets some happy memories to associate with his service after all these years.

I'll see if I can get the grandkids to help me send some notes and cards!
My Papa was a WW2 vet who was at Pearl Harbor. He went for an Honor Flight and since we're close (ish) to DC, we took the day off and met him when they arrived at the WW2 Memorial. The organization has the process fine tuned and your father will be in good hands. It's so inspiring to witness. You'll never forget it.

This is a wonderful idea. Have you heard of the Cards for Soldiers organization, which is run by a woman out of Grayling, Michigan? They just started collecting cards to give to veterans on honor flights. I just sent her a package of 25 cards I made for a flight in September. I will try to make one for your dad.

A cool thing to note is they post a ton of pics on their website after each trip. I made a 8x8 scrapbook for my FIL. My husband was his chaperone so he took a bunch of pics but I found several more of them together on the website.

My dad did that honor flight out of Columbus. There was a line of people/kids welcoming them back. He also got a ton of cards from a school. It was a very memorable moment for him. My dad was a teacher and one of his students helps out and pushed him in his wheelchair everywhere. Such a great experience. By the way, your dad is reallly handsome!

StephDRebel.... has it happened already? I hope your Dad got LOTS of cards and had a wonderful experience! Did he get to see some old friends? After your post, I watched several youtube vids about this, and....wow....I needed a LOT of Kleenex. I used to work with Veterans and LOVED hearing their stories! Some of them said they couldn't speak about war for many, many years after. I have so much respect and empathy for them, and it's so sad that there are so few WW2 veterans anymore.

Sorry I missed this. Your dad looks like such a sweet man. Please thank him for his service. He is a brave and honorable man. Will you share a few photos StephDRebel when they come in?

It’s a wonderful program. The non-profit I’m part of is heavily involved in Honor Flight. We sponsor two veterans, write cards, and go down to meet the Honor Flights. It’s so emotional seeing them coming off the plane. The President’s Project for this year is to sponsor an all-female flight. Even if anyone missed the last one, there will be more so keep the cards coming.
