Do you notice when President Biden gives a speech it makes sense and it’s addressing issues facing all Americans and not rambling on about a boat, a battery, and a shark or some such nonsense? Acyn… ”Biden: As Republican right-wingers seek to erase history, we Democrats will continue to write history and make more history” x.com/acyn/status/1825745173521056097?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

Imagine the convicted felon saying something like this….
Kamala HQ…
”President Biden: Join me in promising your whole heart to this effort, where my heart will be. I promise I’ll be the best volunteer Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have ever seen”

I am very upset by the DNC. I really wanted to watch Biden, but I could not stay up any longer. I have to get up and work in the morning. Biden should have been on by 9:00. Disservice to him because a lot of people weren't watching.

I went to bed at 8:30 last night and have already watched all the key speeches this morning.

I will watch it later, but I still think the convention did Biden dirty by not letting him be on during prime time.

Disservice to him because a lot of people weren't watching. I understand that but at the same time, remember they were on central time so he took the stage about 11 pm - still late but only 9 pm PST. The keynote speaker is always last so it will be more impactful. I recorded it (and added and extra hour because these things always run late) because I didn't think I'd be able to stay up either. I'm sure you can probably find his speech on YouTube. I know you wanted to watch it live and I see your point of view. I hope you are able to watch it.

Midnight on the East Coast. I think 10 pm central is reasonable. 9:00 is better.

Disservice to him because a lot of people weren't watching. I read that with the exception of two (AOC & I forget the other one) all of the speakers took over twice their allotted time. I listened to the latest Pod Save America and they were talking about how these speakers need to speed up and talk over the applause. Your audience is the people at home and not the people in the room. They said they expect that will probably go better tonight. Really a shame that it was Joe Biden who was pushed so late into the evening. I stayed up to watch it, but I was watching on my iPad in bed. I’m in the central time zone so I’m guessing the eastern people were even more disappointed.

Disservice to him because a lot of people weren't watching. I can understand being disappointed about the time Biden spoke if you waited up for him. That said, in this day and age of technological innovation allowing streaming replay at your convenience you’re not being deprived of any DNC content by not watching live, including Biden’s speech. Giving him the closing speech is not “doing him dirty”. It allowed people to express their thanks and admiration with a very long standing ovation without negatively impacting other speakers. It allowed an extended chant of support from the audience. It gave him the freedom to speak as long as needed. IMO that is not doing him a disservice. That speech is in the headlines today and news outlets are repeatedly airing sound bites. Again, the speech and the entire convention are available for replay on major streaming sites. No one is dismissing or undermining Biden’s contribution and importance to the DNC convention.

I read that with the exception of two (AOC & I forget the other one) all of the speakers took over twice their allotted time. I haven’t looked into the nuts and bolts of it, but every speaker going over usually speaks to very lax enforcement of time allotments. If deliberate lack of enforcement for time allotment wasn’t part of the convention strategy for day 1 they should adjust the way they approach this.

Conventions are conventions but I was pleasantly surprised. I hadn’t intended to, but watched all night. ( it was late ). I thought it was really good though and admit to shedding a few tears. Biden, especially under the circumstances, deserves all the flowers. I loved his speech. Warnock, AOC, Crocket……on night one! Kamala in the tan suit. The ads were really good. The fact that the Democrats are finally showing some fight! *chef’s kiss I streamed live from the DNC so there wasn’t commentary which was so much more enjoyable.

We have our DD, DSIL and grandson here tonight. DSIL is a proud union member and he was very touched to see all the union representation. Currently watching my Rep Jamie Raskin. Exciting! I absolutely love Jamie Raskin! I've been watching his series 'class' on Brian Tyler Cohen's YouTube channel. I wish all politicians had the integrity of Raskin. I also admire him so much for how he worked all through his chemo treatment- I don't know his he did that as chemo and radiotherapy floored me!

That said. I loved what I saw. They could have skipped some speakers to stay on time.
Clinton was great. Warnock was fabulous.
It was upbeat and full of hope! I am hoping the Obama's get on stage before 11:00 tonight.

Eleven is very late. Midnight on the East Coast. I think 10 pm central is reasonable. 9:00 is better. That would be 7PM on the west coast, before prime time. Finding a time to suit everyone is not easy with such a big country. It is too late for some people, and too early for others. With the convention starting at 6PM CT, most of us on the west coast don't have time to see much of it live since that is 4PM. We are all still at work, commuting, getting the kids, etc.

RNC wouldn't provide accommodations for disabled people to attend, DNC provided accommodations and also: Twitter: @angtovar "Proud to announce that we recovered 700lbs of food from day 1 of the #DNC, ensuring it will reach Chicagoans in need. This is more than just a donation; it’s a legacy project, affirming our commitment to sustainability and community care. #ChicagoDNC24 #ZeroWaste #LegacyInAction"

On the left coast, watched all of it and LOVED it. Hillary made me cry, as did several others, esp. the women speaking about their reproductive rights. I was so happy to witness the very long standing o for Joe.

It isn't self entitlement. News anchors were talking about this point at length. Does the DNC want to reach a broad audience or only the area of the country that already votes Blue? The mid west is very much in play as are states in the east. Most people have jobs and can't stay up until midnight to watch a speech. Just like a sporting event, I would rather watch it live than watch a recorded version later. I think it would be in the best interest to have a wider audience for their convention.

DNC session starts at 5:30pm Eastern 5:30 Central time tonight!! Unfortunately that means the west coast and middle America will miss the beginnings.. Hopefully to include everyone.
Several invited people were cancelled last night.

I think it would be in the best interest to have a wider audience for their convention. I was specifically speaking to the malaise you expressed about his speech being past your bedtime. I understand the broader conversations surrounding the timing of his speech but I also feel we’re in a day and age that allows unprecedented flexibility for viewing. I agree about reaching a wider audience. His speech is streaming on all platforms and getting plenty of media coverage, thereby reaching a very broad audience. I disagree about skipping more speakers because accepting an invitation to speak requires one make necessary changes to their schedule to ensure attendance. It’s disrespectful to disregard that effort. Putting more effort into managing speaker time allotment is a better strategy. I also think we’d be remiss to ignore the impact of the extended standing ovation Biden received, a possibly infeasible situation had he spoken earlier in the evening.
