Just looking for pea input since this is all new to meโฆ.. Yesterday afternoon I was rear ended. My husband was driving our motorhome and I was following him in our Honda CRV. We were stopped at a red light when a woman in a truck towing a flatbed rear ended me forcing me into the back of our motorhome. I was super shook up, but I walked away just fine as did DH. Iโm ok this morning too, but I do realize that things could crop up days and weeks from now. We did get a police report and have video and lots of pics. Our car was totaled, extensive front end damage. I guess my question is, how should I go about handling medical if I feel ok? I mean , if I call now, Iโm sure they will just tell me what to watch for etc. I feel fine, but should I wait a few days and see and then call? Or?
Oh, and it was a hit and run ๐ก๐ก๐ก๐ก๐ก

Ugh! I'm so sorry!
I was in a hit and run back in March (great birthday present). I felt physically fine day of, but did go to the doctor's to get checked out on Monday morning (the hit and run happened on a Friday night) to be safe and to have record of me going (in case I wasn't aware of anything that amiss).
I'm glad you got pics/video. I had been meaning to get a dashcam, and finally did after this. Even if we never have need for the footage it captures, it's always possible that it helps someone else.

You might not feel soreness until tomorrow. Your neck might hurt next week. It's really hard to say. I would probably make a doctor appointment to get checked over even if you don't think you need it. Your doctor might know common injuries that crop up from rear end accidents.
I really hope someone can find out who the other driver was. That really sucks. I hope all works out for you.

Something like that happened to DH years ago. He had just completely fixed up his truck including replacing the front end, repainted the whole thing, etc. when someone came flying up the shoulder full speed into the turn lane he was about to turn into. He looked and no one was there, went to move over and was hit from behind a second later and pushed into the car in front of him. The insurance for the guy who hit him only paid out for the damage to the back of DHโs truck, and DHโs insurance only paid out to fix the back end of the car he hit. Pretty sure he only had liability at that point which really sucked because he was left on the hook to repair all of the front end damage to his own vehicle himself again because the insurance companies both claimed he had been driving too close to the vehicle in front of him. Sorry youโre dealing with this, itโs a mess for sure having to navigate all of that and the insurance companies never want to give you what it actually costs to replace your vehicle. I hope you can find out who hit you.

I have no advice, but still wanted to say that I'm really sorry this has happened to you.

Sorry you had such a horrible accident. Glad you and hubby are okay. You have plenty of time to be able to claim medical. Since it was hit and run, I would think your insurance would be coving the accident. I would just ask them the time limit.
Hope things look up soon. {{{Hugs}}}

I'm sorry this happened to you! When you say that you have video, do you mean dash cam footage? Or do you mean you took a video of the damage after the fact? I hope you have some form of video that shoes the plates of the hit-and-run driver. What a bitch the other driver is, to have just taken off like that!

That sucks! I am glad you are okay though.
Call your doctor and get in asap and start documenting all the new aches, pains, etc. Since it was a hit and run, your insurance will most likely pick up the cost of any medical bills.

We go to our Chiropractor within two days for a treatment and start a claim. Our car was rear ended and written off. We researched a replacement car across the Province that was similar and had low mileage like ours. The Insurance company offered us a low amount then we showed them the other numbers and they then offered a higher number. They might have cameras at intersections that record traffic. Check and see if there are any door bell cameras on houses nearby. Drive around and see if you find the truck or flatbed.

No footage with her plates, just the video we took of the damage. After she hit me she made eye contact with me and pulled over into the right hand turn lane. I pulled in front of her, and my DH pulled in front of me. We turned right to find a safe place out of the roadway, and she just kept kept going straight ๐ก๐ก๐ก๐ก๐ก. I do have a front facing cam showing my collision into our RV, and that was turned in to insurance, but no rear facing cam. Will have one with the new car.

There is a camera on the light at the intersection we were stopped at, but when we asked the highway patrol if they would access it for a collision, he said โgood luck with thatโ. ๐. No houses on this stretch of the highway, just large stores like grocery and Target set way back from the road with the parking lots in front near the intersection where we were hit. We donโt live in the area, but our daughter does and weโve asked her to keep an eye out. Thanks for your suggestions ๐

Thanks for your suggestions ๐ Can your DD post something on area Facebook or Nextdoor pages with a description of the vehicle and driver that hit you? Something like this happened in our area, the victim posted about it on Nextdoor and someone actually found the vehicle in their neighborhood! They got the plate, the victim was able to notify police and the hit and run driver was found. Crowd sourcing works sometimes!
