After Covid? This is the first time I have lost it and it’s upsetting. I’ve read horror stories online but want some average answers…

599 days. Not that I was counting. 😂. Coffee and onions smelled like rotting flesh and I was so excited for them to be normal again.

I know someone who got it back after theor 2nd vaccine (when vaccines were new), I know someone who has never got it back, and outside of that it varies by person

I never lost smell but did lose taste both times. The majority came back within a couple of weeks but I still have a few residual taste issues from my bout in Oct 2022 and soda tastes flat after my July 2024 bout. Dh never lost either - I'm a little salty about that since he's the one who gave it to me both times.
Hope yours returns soon.

I didn't lose taste or smell either time. DD lost taste the first time but it came back slowly over the next month or so.

I recently had Covid for the first time. I lost my sense of smell and taste a few days in. They both gradually came back (and everything seems normal now) within two weeks.

About 2 weeks. I did smell training. SmellI would sniff the pickle jar, garlic jar and essential oils several times a day. I really feel like it helped.

I've had covid 3 times and my sense of smell has been gone for over a year now. Some things I can smell, but for the most part... nada.

I had covid for the first time in December 2022.
I still barely have a sense of smell, or taste.
My youngest kid also had covid then (second infection), and can barely smell.
Our doctors have said that we just have to wait it out.

I read about a doctor who kept a scented candle on his bedstand and on his desk and it helped him, so I did it. Would it have come back on its own? Maybe - but it was gone for a solid 3 weeks. Hope it comes back soon.

A couple of weeks but then for about 2 years after, I would smell cigarette smoke so strongly when I either had my period or was ovulating. Very weird and VERY annoying since I loathe the smell of cigarettes! Thankfully its been a few months and I haven't had my phantom smoke smells.

This is a timely question. I had Covid last August. I lost my sense of taste for about 24 hours but I didn't think I lost my sense of smell, at least not that I noticed. The taste came back quickly but I had a weird metallic aftertaste in my mouth for about 8 months. Last week, almost exactly 1 year since I had Covid, I started noticing that things suddenly seemed to smell a lot more strongly. Things like my body wash, laundry detergent, etc. I finally realized that I must have had some loss of smell from the Covid last year and this was my sense of smell returning to normal.

Not covid, but it took almost ten years before I got my sense of smell (almost) back after a viral infection

I lost my sense of smell and taste for a couple of days when I had COVID back in April. I thought I got my sense of smell back when I got my taste back, but lately I'm not so sure. There have been a few times that DSO has mentioned something not smelling very good (like when he spilt coffee in his car) but I couldn't really smell it. I can definitely smell things, but maybe not as strongly as before.

Two weeks. I kept trying strong smells to check - peppermint, Vicks Vapo Rub, strong perfume. Perhaps my own accidental smell training. I realized it was back when I thought "oops the chicken juice must have dripped on the oven ... Hey! I smelled that!"

Mine was a little over 6 months. i was sitting waiting for my cup of coffee to brew one morning and it was like, oh my gosh, I can smell it!
Same with room freshner. I thought mine was a dud until one day, it popped and man, I thought I hope no one thought I was trying to cover up bad smells in my house with such strong air freshner. It was so potent.
I don't know if my taste is still off 2.5 years later, if its because I'm getting older and losing tastebuds or if makes of food have changed so much to the worse, but I don't find food as tasty as it once was. Could be good, but I still eat and am disappointed I spent money on that not so tasty item.
